Is anyone here much interested in philosophy? There's a great book called Godel, Escher, Bach by Douglas R. Hofstadter. It's greatly longer than your average weekend reader, but written in an informal and very readable form so most people can understand it. The author also has an interesting sense of humor that comes naturally from the ideas in the book... It is kinda long, but nothing's excessively technical; it's all accessible if you can follow the ideas the author shows you how to build. I'm not sure what it's classified under, I guess it's a book about the nature of information in general.
If anyone here's read it or even just a good part of it, please share your thoughts! If you're interested in the way high-level patterns are found implicit in appearent chaos, talk here!

it's not very good. for a philosophical book, read the fountain head. but dont take it seriously.
