The Problem with Increasing Light Level

We've already seen it happen. After the dark below dlc came out, vanguard, crucible, and faction armor all increased their armor to 33 light making the vault of glass armor obsolete. If the maximum light level were to be raised again in house of wolves, the game would become too easy. Let me explain... Say the new light level were to be anywhere between 33-35. If history were to repeat itself, the vanguard, crucible, and faction armor would hypothetically have their light levels raised anywhere between 36-39, again making past raid armor obsolete. Not only would it do that, but it would allow for players to kill both normal and hard Crota in 1-2 swords per time. Now I bet most of you are thinking "that's a good thing!" And I would agree in some respects. However if you're like me, challenging tasks are fun and they give you maximum gratification when you beat them. Anyways, like I was saying, "hard" crota would become too easy and it would defeat the purpose of having a challenging raid that bungie spent all this time tweaking and creating. I still don't think it's that challenging but I am a cocky bastard haha. But not only that, I can already predict that players won't even BOTHER to do vault of glass anymore, given that they already have all the weapons from it that they desire. So then what would we be left with? Only one raid (house of wolves) that gives a challenge since the light levels will be further increased? I think it's a slippery slope and hardcore gamers would shy away from the game once they have run out of enough challenges to overcome, which in this case would be the house of wolves being the last challenge available. So what can we do to fix this? Players have suggested this countless times already. Create new raid levels for past raids that drop the same armor but with updated stats to match that of the current best armor. I like vault of glass. It remains to be challenging at some parts of you are a lower level and it's just an all around fantastic, fun, interesting raid. But there's no point in doing it anymore if you already have all the weapons, armor, and exotics. I really hope this idea could be implemented after house of wolves is released as the last dlc, making it to be the final step in becoming the highest level possible. I cannot stress this enough, for the sake of preserving fun and challenge, higher level players will absolutely need higher level raids for Croats end and vault of glass IF the light level is raised again in house of wolves. These higher level raids would not drop new weapons but have them match the highest attack strength possible to their house of wolves counterparts. Please bungie, for the sake of player satisfaction, overall enjoyment, and destiny itself, make this a project at your secret bunny hole headquarters if light levels are going to be raised again. If not, then vault of glass will most definitely need another difficulty at the very least and contain the specifications that I listed above (to match current light level/attack strength). I kind of lost my train of thought which made me miss some of my points, but I will update this as they come back to me :) Show some support if you agree with all of this. Or, if you don't agree, at least give constructive criticism as to why you think so rather than "no" or "this is dumb"

  • You can already kill normal or hard mode Crota in 2 swords. Fail thread.

    • First: the raid would be the same difficulty for a level 32 (the cap level on the Crota hard raid) than it would a level 35 or 47 or over 9000, just the way it is with vault now. Yes your defense is slightly increased, but you still deal the same damage even if you use new weapons. It scales you down. Second: Lots of people still do vog. LOTS. Have you checked the forum lately? It's not obsolete, and neither is the gear. For those of us just now buying the game or creating new characters (or in my case having to create a new Microsoft account) it's very helpful to bump us up if we don't have the marks for the tower gear and can't get Crota done yet. I'm lvl 30 and have on vog gauntlets cause I haven't been able to get new ones yet. And on my old account, which I had since I got the game like a week after release, I still hadn't gotten dropped a praetorian foil from the vog or the Titan mark even in March, and I had 3 32's. Bottom line: everyone's at different parts of their destiny journey, we can't focus on the seasoned players and not tend to the newcomers at all. And personally, I enjoy running vog, even posting on forums to offer my help to people trying it for the first time.

    • It only makes it insignificant if the pve activities pass the max level of the old raid armor. As it is now, Crota Raid armor is the best thing to wear during the raid, as it should be, since you deal the highest possible damage and absorb the highest possible amount of damage at level 32 For everything else, since the highest pve activity is level 30, running it any higher than 30 doesn't grant you any damage advantage, and the armor rating defensive bonus is so insignificant there's not much of a difference between a 30, a 31, and 32 against level 30 enemies. When I run Crota, I run at the highest level possible, everything else, who the -blam!- cares. Where what you want as long as it's at least 30. My current setup on my warlock consists of the VoG helmet, iron banner arms, exotic chest, Crota boots. Before iron banner I used VoG arms so no, vault of glass armor was never obsolete. There's a rumor floating around they're planning on providing a pathway to upgrade old gear anyway.

    • I like where you're going with this. I suggest a required amount of light (not level) to join the raid.

It would be nice but it'll be way faster to get to the max level

    • I have posted this same post many times before. But not with the new raid difficulties, and boasted loot. Your idea coupled with making vanguard / crucible / faction armor, not as good as past raid loot would make the game much more enjoyable.
