My thoughts on Halo 4.

I know this seems late and out of nowhere, but I just finished Halo 4 on legendary on the MCC and I thought I would put my thoughts out. Feel free to hate if you want but try to be sensible about it and respect one another (If that's even possible on B.Net) Pros: -The Prometheans. They were excellently designed and fun to fight. It's good that we weren't shooting Covenant the whole game. -The Characters Cheif and Cortana's development was spot on. It was good to hear some emotion in Cheif's voice and Jen Taylor gave a FANTASTIC performance. - The Lore was deep and seeing a Forerunner in the flesh was intimidating. -The Beauty. Dear GOD this game was pretty. The varied enviroments and level designs helped to keep the campaign from getting repetitive. The Multiplayer maps looked just as good as well. -The Weapons. The new Promethean weapons were awesome to look at and fun to use. The BR's triumphant return and new UNSC weapons such as the Railgun made for some new and fun times. -NO FLOOD LEVEL. Levels with The Flood have always been hard and agitating (The Library, Gravemind, Cortana, etc.) Instead we got to fly the Broadsword Luke Skywalker style! Badass. Cons: -The Final Sequence. Cortana's copies restraining the Didact was almost laughable. It could have been a lot less awkward and it sort of undercut the mood. I know the Didact had to be defeated somehow and Cheif could never do , it on his own, but the bref QTE was underwhelming and abrupt. Crawling toward the nuke was also kind of unnecessary. -Armor Abilities. These were kind if useless outside of super specific situations and felt sorr of tacked on. The only really useful one was the Thruster and even then it still felt limited. -Captain Del Rio. Del Rio felt sort of token given that he makes the worst decisions imaginable while on Requiem. Granted he has his moments and he wasn't exactly terrible, but I still felt he didn't contribute enough to the story. - Forge. Halo 4's forge was rather limited compared to Halo Reach. Plus the File Share was dissapointingly underused. -Theater. Nuff said. -OP weapons. The saw and Incineration Cannon were horrendously overpowered in the Multiplayer. (Even though they were fun to use in the campaign) Undecided (basically neutral): -The Multiplayer I KNOW I'm gonna get flak for this but the Multiplayer wasn't bad. I had a lot of fun with it and played it regularly. However it definitely had it's downsides. Mainly Loadouts, Ordinance, and strange matchmaking results. (Team of 4 vs Team of 2. Riiiiight.....) The Mantis was great though. -The Armor I loved how powerful and intimidating Chief and a good chunk if the Variations looked. However, some of them were downright wierd (Oceanic comes to mind.) -Spartan Ops. On one hand, my brother and I had a ton of fun playing these. On the other, They were relatively shallow and didn't add that much to the main game. -Palmer She's cool but underused and kind if underdeveloped. -The Ending. This one has me split. Looking up at earth one final time before firing the nuke was tense and awesome. Killing Cortana was definitely the right choice and they pulled it off fairly well. But having her turn human sized was a bit....odd. The end was just....strange. Not necessarily BAD. But not great either. -Sprinting. I never minded it so I'm sort of indifferent to it. TL;DR: It's flawed but Iike it. Think of me what you will, but these are just my thoughts.

I loved Del Rio. Simply because he got his ass handed to him when he got back to Earth. The armor was also really weird. It was ok, but I would play reach instead anyday.

  • Overall it was a good game, but for a Halo game it could have been so much better. I did not like chiefs armor because it was not completely Mark VI, it was all mixed up and weird. The multiplayer was fun, the loadouts were whatever I wish they had just taken the loadouts from Reach. I wish the armor wasn't so ridiculous, Scout armor and Mark VI are the only good looking ones in my opinion . Armor abilities were good for multiplayer, was bubbleshield an option for one? no right? but in campaign they were practically worthless. This game looked amazing and I loved the weapons but I wish the Battlerifle wasn't such garbage compared to Halo 3's. Halo 4 Forge was complete trash, Halo Reach Forge was far superior, and the lack of forge world was disappointing. The Mantis was okay, I'm usually able to take it down rather quickly with just one shot of the plasma pistol, sticky detonator, or just a few well placed grenades or sniper rounds. Spartan Ops was fun, and challenging but it was shallow, as you said, and I hate the fact that I need Gold to play it, I was going to grab a few achievements for Spartan Ops but I'm not able to because I don't have Gold. I like the story overall but you're right about certain parts being awkward.

  • I couldn't even get past the second mission. Halo did not need a continuation.

    • I didn't like the Multiplayer of Halo 4. The MP felt nothing like Halo 3 and thus led to my disliking of it. It's campaign was very nice and at times would remind me of Halo 3. Spartan Ops felt boring but had a nice episodic story and provided a little more end-game content. Forge and Theater were OK.

    • I liked it but it was fat from Halo. I thoroughly enjoyed Spartan Ops, that was easily my favorite part of the game. Campaign was definitely fun to go through even though it felt short. Problems for me came from the story feeling like Star Wars from the Didactic, excuse my spelling if that isn't correct, using the force to blowing up the death star on the last mission. Then multiplayer moving towards call of duty like it did. I don't want kill streaks, custom classes, perks, skins, and all the minor mechanics. That being said looking back at it I wish I played it more. Especially after the Halo 5 beta let me down so much.
