Popular Fusion's 5th Annual Writing Competition

Hello, and welcome to our 5th Annual Writing Competition! As you all remember, last year (decade or whatever), we were blown away by the number of participants. The writing! The people! That third thing that totally happened! I can't tell you how many people I wanted to give first place! But there can only be one, and that was none other than our very own *grumble-mumble*! Well, here we are again, a new time for new stories with new ideas! You should know the drill by now, what with how often we run these successful and plentiful events! Write a story! Any story! Keep in mind that your story will be judged by your peers, based on the scoring system at the bottom of this post. Also note that one of the things we won't be judging is length. We don't care about how long or short a story is, just so long as it is good. Judges, when judging a story, please consider the criteria below. If you think a particular aspect of the story isn't as well done as it could be, give it minimal points as a score for that section. If you think it did fantastic, though, give it more! Sections cannot be given more points than allowed. We would also deeply appreciate it if you explained why you gave the score you give for each section. Funny, I just wrote a little Destiny story. I felt like posting it somewhere and was going to post it here. This is quite convenient. This hasn't been edited, hasn't been reworked, it just went from the brain to the page and has been left untouched.
“So, where are you taking us?” “Away.” “Yes, I can see that, but where?” “Somewhere else.” “I could stop you.” “You won’t.” “No, I don’t suppose that I will” The engines of a jumpship roared, and the craft pulled away from the surface. Up, ripping through the dense clouds, until all that could be seen were stars. A blue dot expanded ahead of the craft and engulfed it completely as it tore in to it. There was nothing to go back to, not anymore. Maybe their bodies would be found by new ghosts, made new again, but they would be gone. A Guardian is an embodiment of its ghost, for the Guardian never existed, not truly, until its ghost claimed it. When a Ghost is lost, it’s Guardian is not far behind. Guardians die, and they are brought back. Again and again, they are brought back to die again. After so many deaths there is no fear, how could you fear all that you have ever known? So when a Ghost dies, and they are not brought back, what does a Guardian feel? The shimmering neon blue surrounding the ship gave way to black, dotted with the stars of far off solar systems neither Guardian nor Ghost had ever visited. Had they been visited in the Golden Age? The question used to be asked with a hope that they would discover what new adventures awaited them in the far off stars, but this one was laced with dread. A finality that was not expected, but was laced with a determined focus, a focus on the patch of space ahead of the craft without stars. “We’ve arrived” “What are we planning, exactly?” “You know the answer” “We could return to the tower.” “No.” “No?” “I’m tired. I need to rest, like you.” The jumpship rocketed forward as warnings flared throughout the cockpit. Warnings of overheating, warnings of imminent collision, and warnings of an armed warhead aboard. The Hive ship fired at the jumpship, but it was simply moving too fast. “Goodbye, my friend” The Ghost whispered to itself, and looked down upon the corpse of his Guardian. “Goodbye.”
