is the Wii U the right way to go?

I am getting bored of the lack of games on the ps4 and xbox one. I do not yet own an xbox, but realistically the only games I'd play on it would be sunset overdrive and the halo collection, making it even worse than my playstation. I then look in the complete opposite direction. Nintendo. Despite the lack of third party support...Nintendo are on fire with their first party games. I recently looked at some of the Wii U games, MK8, Smash Bros, Mario 3d land (just to name a few) and feel as if they have the killer exclusives that both sony and microsoft are missing. However I feel as if the Wii U is heavily friend oriented and reliant on co-op play. I hear Nintendo aren't exactly great with their online service and none of my friends own a Wii U because they believe broken third party games triumph them all. For anybody with a Wii U or with any experience with it, do you think my thoughts justify having one? It will cost me 300 pounds plus to get everything that I want so it isn't exactly cheap, but cheaper than going down the xbox route. thank you in advance!

  • I play PC and my Wii U most of the time. I admit I still play Destiny once or twice a week with some friends, but my 360 takes care of that. My Xbone sits on a shelf and I pull my Wii U out whenever my friends come over. Basically, if you want great party games and the occasional single player game the Wii U is perfect. Nintendo still knows how to make the best exclusives so they're always good for a great game every couple of months.

  • Yes, Buy it! I personally have a PS4, and a Wii U, and the Wii U has tons of great games (ex: Super Mario 3D World, Bayonetta 2, Super Smash Bros, etc....) If you buy a Wii U you will not regret it! :)

  • I would definitely not suggest getting a wii u. It has a severe lack of games if you don't own a wii but if you do why buy the wii u? I wanna play Zelda and smash Bros but that's all that is really there. Can't even play the Nintendo 64 games on it yet. Not worth it. And what makes matters worse is the hardware is pretty shit with lag and disconnection errors with the gamepad when you have ANY mobile device being used in the same area.

It is a very good console and would definitely suggest getting one, however i would first suggest getting a 3DS, now i know it is a hand held not a full console, but i find its selection of games to actually be better at the moment then the wiiu, what also makes me suggest the 3DS first is because of the unbelievable library available to it from the DS (backwards compatibility is awesome), there are just so many great games to play from current gen and last gen, not to mention its eshop is a little better then the wiiu's right now. But that is just my personal suggestion. It is also cheaper so you could actually get both a wiiu and 3DS for around the same price as either the ps4 or xbox one (two consoles is always nice). Also it depends on what kinds of games you are into, you can play online with both the 3DS and wiiu so that is covered either way. I also understand that some people just want a regular console, and so they are not interested in hand helds, and that is cool too, that is their choice, and if that is the case for you then my opinion is still to get a wiiu (and play with friends, since a lot of their games are group oriented games).

After owning a Wii U for just over a year, I can safely say it's definitely the way to go if you're looking for games that are actually a lot of FUN. I don't know what you've heard about the online service, but I can tell you I've had far less issues with Nintendo Network than I have with XBL, and the community for their games is actually nice and helpful (Monster Hunter especially). Get a Wii U with Mario kart, Monster Hunter, Hyrule Warriors and SSB and you'll be set. With Starfox, Splatoon and Zelda U all coming this year too, I think you have some quality games to look forward to.

      • Sure you can get a WiiU. You'll also be a filthy casual. I mean you are excited over Mario and super smash brothers? I remember them being cool in elementary school...

It's not too hard, unless you live far away from each other. If that's the case, try making new friends in your area. Smash Wii U has an 8-player mode for local play only, so that's one reason to get friends to come. But seriously, on the actual hardware side, it has a (somewhat) dissapointing 32 GB data storage, without an SD card. The graphics on the games... yeah, you can't see every hair on their head, but it's what you do with your graphics that counts. People heavily underestimate Nintendo, to the point of HATING them. All together, the Wii U actually might be as good / better than an Xbox One and PlayStation4. I reccomend getting it.

            • Wii U is currently worth it opposed to an Xbox One/Playstation due to its first party games taking a big steaming shit on both of them. I also have never had a problem with online.

              • It is definitely worth it. Games like MK8 and smash 4 will last you for years, whereas destiny or skyrim won't. Mix it up with casual games like mario world and more mature games like bayonetta. Also Xenoblade chronicles X is a MUST HAVE, the original for the wii is, to this day, THE BEST game I have EVER played. With an amazing soundtrack, awesome characters and a deep story, it's one game you won't want to miss.

I own a Wii U but I really only bought it for Bayonetta 2 and possibly Xenoblade. I'm getting tired of Nintendo's first party titles, in all honesty, hopefully they make something new. If you like their first party titles, then I'd say it's worth it.

If you don't care at all for multi-plat games (Skyrim, Fallout 3, GTA V, COD, etc.), then the WiiU probably isn't a bad idea, as the WiiU severely lacks in the 3rd party multi-plat department. I only ever hear good things from their exclusives. I'd recommend watching the video if you want a good analysis of the system as of today.

                  • It's a pretty solid system. Plenty of great 1st party games. Also with the virtual console you have access to plenty of classic games.

                  • As far as nintendo consoles go, I go with their handhelds. As far as Wii-U games, if you get the second bayonetta, you get the first free.
