SpeedRuns - What's allowed?

Cheesing

No Cheesing

So I've been wanting to get into the world of speed running the raids, and I'm curious about the communities thoughts on what is and isn't allowed in a speedrun. Is any cheesing allowed? Is some cheesing allowed? What truly qualifies as a cheese? The debate mostly comes up with regards to Crota's End but we can bring up The Vault of Glass too. Vault of Glass 1. Sniping oracles from the top. Is this allowed? I assume it's slower and that's why people don't do it. 2. Having people up top for Templar? Allowed? Again I assume it's slower to get people back up there which is why people don't do it 3. Glitching the opening door. Allowed? It doesn't stop you from killing anything so I assume it's allowed 4. Other. Are there other cheeses which are or aren't allowed? Crota's End 1. Abyss. Do you have to activate every lamp? How many can you skip? Jump from lamp 2? Shortcut at lamp 6? all 6 people running vs only 1? So many things that some people consider cheesing 2. Bridge. Do all 6 need to get across? Can warlocks rez on orginal side? Can you get less people across as long as no one rez's on the original side? 3. Wiping after getting the Crota Checkpoint. Allowed? I suppose there could simply be 2 sets of speedruns (100% vs Any% kinda thing) but which matters more? Looking at other games like Ocarina of Time and Mario 64, it seems like people mostly care and talk about the shortest time and couldn't care less about the glitches used to achieve those times. The biggest issue I see with some of these 'cheeses' is what happens if/when they are fixed. If it becomes impossible to complete the raid as quickly anymore because a 'cheese' is removed, it could be difficult to get your new higher time to be recognized as the quickest. Thanks

  • I'll start by saying that I'm obviously a little torn on the matter. Both matter but some of the 'cheeses' are far grayer than others, which complicates the whole thing even more. I lean towards the Any% side of things I think, and with Destiny Raid Speedruns, as long as you can't skip past a section completely, it's valid.
