"Earned" Concept

The only items "earned" in Destiny are items with specific criteria for attaining them. Such as exotic bounties, Iron Banner gear, Murmur etc ... Everything else is dropped by a programming algorithm, otherwise known as "luck". Case in point. I have played almost 400 hours and have beaten both Raids repeatedly as well as lots of Nightfalls and I've never gotten a Gjallerhorn. I barely play PvP and scored a Suros off a random match reward. No rhyme or reason. Just "luck". If you think you "earned" a random drop, get off your high horse and join reality with the rest of us.

  • There's a serious rift in the community between relatively normal gamers with basically normal lives and generally normal grips on reality and the players who believe that their digital, make believe set of 1s and 0s that generates numerical modifiers for a casino algorithm equates in any way to something "earned". Apparently, this reaction in this group of gamers is strong enough and common enough that they've come here and banded together to form a sort of dysfunctional kids club where they take it in turn to shout down normal people and people with a healthy relationship to gaming. And the kicker is that they do their shouting from a soapbox made solely of the same delusion that binds them together. I've never seen so many people full of so much self righteous indignation who were so unaware of their toxic level of mental illness outside of rehab centers, jails or inpatient therapy groups. It's legitimately scary to me. Some of the thousand word manifestos here about the sanctity of "earned ghorns" contain the same levels of delusion and narcissism that I've read in letters written by inmates who aren't ashamed of their horrific crimes and freely admit their guilt while "educating" the reader about how their actions aren't really wrong. I've decided to come out of retirement and quantify what I'm seeing here. On my next off day I'm going to draft a grant proposal full of examples from this forum to see if I can start a legit research project based on this phenomenon.
