Weekly Vendor Quests

Quests were a good addition with the Dark Below. However, you only really get 1 or 2, merely a taste of the potential for Quests in Destiny. These new story mechanics were nice minor changes, but they need wider adoption. Why not add Weekly Quests given by the vendors/mentors in the Tower. Quests given out by characters such as Holiday (Shipwright), Banshee-44 (Gunsmith), and Eva Levant (Guardian Outfitter) or your class’s respective Vanguard Mentor. After you beat the main story, these 3 Vendors, in particular, feel largely meaningless in the endgame of Destiny. They must be lonely. Show them some love by establishing a Weekly Quest giving them purpose in the endgame. Quests are more specific, more difficult, and are longer than bounties just like they appeared in the Dark Below. However, rather than the reward being just XP and Reputation, each Vendor would have specific reward based on their trade. The Gunsmith rewards Weapon Engrams, Holiday Ship/Sparrow Engram, and Eva Levante Emblems and Shaders. Along with XP, Reputation, and the respective rewards, Guardians also have the chance to earn Ascendant Materials, Upgrade Materials, glimmer, or even Exclusive Class Items. Adding Weekly Quests for these Vendors grants players more variety and gives these characters new purpose in the endgame of Destiny. Although I only mentioned these 3 Vendors, Weekly Quests could be expanded to all Vendors, Vanguard/Crucible Mentors, Faction Emissaries, and the Speaker. Each one would have specific Quests based on character, not random "kill this many guys" activities. Perhaps even making only certain Vendors each week with Quests and it randomly switches each week or players earn the Quests by completing a given number of Bounties each week. Also players would only be able to get a Weekly Quest from their class’ Mentor. This brings some welcomed variety, especially if the Quests are different from bounties. Or even an implementation of earning these Quests by completing Bounties. Your Vanguard mentor or a Vendor recognize your achievement and entrust you with completing a Quest. I personally prefer the Story-focused missions in games. I enjoy the Raids and understand that they have become the main part of Destiny, but I think that is a problem. The Raids siphon all the attention and other modes of the game appear to suffer. If you don't play the Raid, you miss out on a huge part of the experience. So why not buff up the other parts of Destiny and promote more player activities and exploration of the worlds? Use the Quests to point people to places in Patrol mode that they don't normally go. I know that there is a Hive cave system that wraps around the backside of the Cosmodrome to the Forgotten Shore. You have a wonderful universe, now show it. • Quests reset on each Tuesday, like usual; Players have a week to finish • Each vendor has a quest: Gunsmith, Shipwright, Guardian Outfitter, The Speaker, Vanguard & Crucible Mentors, Faction Emissaries, but NO CRYPTARCH!; 9 Quests a week TOTAL; DLC Vendor’s also have quests, available only to DLC Owners • Quest Rewards related to vendor’s trade: Gunsmith – Gun; Shipwright – Ship, Sparrow; Guardian Outfitter – Shader, Emblem; The Speaker – Ghost Shells; etc. • Quest rewards also include chance for Ascendant Materials, Upgrade Materials, Glimmer, Reputation, XP, Glimmer, and Class Item • More specific & unique tasks for quests; ie “The Thorn Bounty’s Summoning Pits Modifier” • Quest provide renewed usefulness of each vendor in endgame content and encourage exploration of the world beyond the Raids; Take players to less visited/seen areas
