The vote for net neutrality happens tomorrow. What do you think will happen?
For those of you not in the know watch this. Yes it's a bit long but if you use the internet at all you need to know.
Basically cable companies want to say "Hello friend! We control the internet now :) so kindly gtfo out of OUR series of tubes and get ready cause we're going in dry! "
That should get at least some of you a bit pissed.
EDIT
Thanks to Mad Max explaining better, what is being voted on is Title II which would make the internet be considered a utility and would therefore NOT be able to be controlled by the cable companies to do with as they see fit
UPDATE
grover786 has given us good news!
Title II has prevailed however this is not the end of the fight.
yeah, the companies of the us wont be able control the internet, they are undecided as to weather or not to classify as a utilitie and there are talks of controlling or preventing rediculous costs to customers put forward by the companies. (verizon/comcast and such)
will up date as new info arives, im watching cspan right now at work.
But he also says
Ok so, we have a double edged sword here, basically since it won, as i said before the companies cant throttle or up charge or have two different lanes. on the other hand this gives the fcc alot of control over many aspects of the internet if it goes ALL the way. so we will have to wait and see if the fcc does the right thing and mearly protects us from ISP's and there abuse of there power, and hopefully the fcc wont begin to abuse there power or we could end up like china or which ever korea it is that has the extreme limiting.
JUST TO CLARIFY. EITHER WAY WE GO ITS ALL KINDS OF SCREWED. I DON'T WANT ISP TO BE IN CONTROL THIS DOESN'T MEAN I LIKE THE OTHER OPTION EITHER.

Can't decide what's better. Federal control or corporate control. I hope Americans made the right decision.
-
Edited by Vikingspartan54: 3/3/2015 7:23:15 AMIt will work against the free Internet. Why was a gag order put on it and why weren't Americans allowed to read the long redacted 365-page document in addition to the FCC director not allowing it to be passed onto Americans specifically to be read? EDIT: Also explain the behavior behind the director and the other two when it passed? I bet you can't.
-
WE NEED QUANTUM COMPUTING. I'M TIRED OF THIS INFERIOR INFRASTRUCTURE BULLSH*T.
-
I'd rather the FCC with full internet power than ISP. FCC seems like they are trying to do the right thing with Net neutrality. Maybe they'll keep being good guys
-
They'll work against the people, which our government seems to do. A lot.

Edited by Bucket of Tears: 2/26/2015 6:22:36 PMInternet freedom is over. If you think anything else, you are terribly naive. Every single person should be angry that three unelected bureaucrats have the power to alter one of the greatest tools of freedom that man ever devised. EDIT: Also, for anyone complaining about cable companies and ISPs and their high prices, don't worry. This approval will give you exactly that in the form of more taxes down the road, more fees, and more regulation. Guaranteed.
-
I'd like to see them try. If they try this shit their will be hell to pay.
-
And this how freedom dies, with thunderous applause...
-
The FCC will try to control the Internet. And, like many before them, fail miserably.
-
If title II wins who do you think will file the first lawsuit?
-
Edited by Mad Max: 2/26/2015 1:50:55 AMThere seems to be some confusion. Tomorrow's vote is on Title II, which would treat ISPs as utilities. This isn't the same CISPA/SOPA/etc bullshit
-
for those who come here confused as to what this topic is about, the above video provides a clear and concise explanation
-
So is it decided that this is the day freedom died? I'm just tired of having to cross out all of the other times on my calendar because "loljk but next time it's for real".
-
The Title 2 is fine imho, but any further and I hope Anonymous absolutely -blam!-ing wrecks Congress. I would want an absolute shutdown of media to show the government that we control them, not the other -blam!-ing way around. Anonymous, LizardSquad(you're bad, but good enough), and all of those other minor groups need to band together and stop the government from restricting the -blam!-ing internet - a vestige of freedom unadulterated.

Honestly, I'm against more gov't control of businesses.
-
The reason it will pass is because money controls the politicians in America and a lot of the biggest donors are invested in internet based company's.
-
So is the bill to protect it from the shithead cable companies or to start that?
-
Edited by TheLoneHunter: 2/26/2015 4:50:19 PMpretty sure the gov actually just did something right. O.o or at least are attempting to. but dude, whats with all speaches... edit: no fast lanes
-
As if some American companies could decide about the global Internet.
-
Doesn't matter what they vote, this isn't the final stage of all this. There's still more to go afterwards.
-
I think it just passed.
-
Money will decide and I'm afraid we will be seeing a 2 tier system
-
This is a double edged sword, but its definition as a utility is almost a must. The internet isn't a must have, but no single company should have the right to restrict services on an infrastructure they do not own or upkeep alone. If you need to know who enemy #1 to neutrality is, its Verizon.
