When you look at damage upgrade node in your gun you will see: "Increases Attack Power, allowing this weapon to cause more damage". But it's not true. Attack Power changes but your damage not. It's always the same. Attack Power is important only for enemies who have higher lv than yours. So if you're lv 29 there is no enemy with higher level than you (only VoG hard mode). It also can count in Iron Banner, but otherwise? Whats the point in upgrading weapon? Esspecialy if it says that it will cause more damage but it doesn't. Some of the Rare weapons are far better and powerful than Legendaries or Exotics. Aren't Legendaries and Exotics ought to be more powerful than rares? What do you think?

Note: This is with "Time's Vengeance" Active simply because it's the best way to judge the damage increase. Icebreaker: No Upgrades, just over 10k damage per critical Icebreaker: Fully upgraded, Just under 20k damage per crit. It does work.

Edited by The_PiQ: 10/2/2014 9:36:49 PMOk. I did more tests. On different levels and different plantes. Given impact is only in comparision with these 3 guns. Damage is critical damage. Test Weapons: Painted Big Chief Mk. 45, 242 Attack Power, highest impact Devil You Know, 277 Attack Power, medium impact Thorn, 283 Attack Power, lowest impact lv. 6 enemies (Moon) Big Chief - 646 Devil - 584 Thorn - 574 Lv. 10 enemies (Vemus) Big Chief - 847 Devil - 765 Thorn - 752 Lv. 15 enemies (Mars) Big Chief - 848 Devil - 767 Thorn - 754 Lv. 18 lesser enemies - heroic (Mars) Big Chief - 880 Devil - 939 Thorn - 823 Lv. 18 major enemies - heroic (Mars) Big Chief - 514 Devil - 548 Thorn - 539 Lv. 22 lesser enemies - heroic (Mars) Big Chief - 880 Devil - 963 Thorn - 974 Lv. 22 major enemies - heroic (Mars) Big Chief - 514 Devil - 562 Thorn - 568 Lv. 26 lesser enemies - heroic (Mars) Big Chief - 880 Devil - 963 Thorn - 974 Lv. 26 major enemies - heroic (Mars) Big Chief - 514 Devil - 562 Thorn - 568 Lv. 28 Daily Heroic (Venus) Big Chief - 1232 Devil - 1347 Thorn - 1363 Ok. So that's how the numbers looks. So it seems that without heroic modifier impact plays major role in damage output. When heroic modifier comes in it turns out that Attack Power plays major role. Conclusion is that for high level runs with heroic modifier Legendaries and Exotic weapons are much better. Generally it seems that more Power Attack = more damage but only against enemies with heroic modifier and lv 18 and above. So it's not entirely a lie with weapon upgrades. It is more complex that it seems at the begining. EDIT: I forgot to add that: Level 18 major Hive enemies (Cosmodrome Patrol) Big Chief - 514 Devil - 504 Thorn - 539 Here results are strange. I don't know why it is like that. Maybe Thorn has some damage bonus against Hive enemies but I'm not sure.

Ok so I made quick test. First results. (given impact is only in comparision with these 3 guns) Test Weapons: Painted Big Chief Mk. 45, 242 Attack Power, highest impact Devil You Know, 257 Attack Power, medium impact Thorn, 283 Attack Power, lowest impact Test Site: Cosmodrome lv2 Dregs and Vandals Results. Painted Big Chief Mk. 45 - 493 crit damage Devil You Know - 446 crit damage Thorn - 438 crit damage So different Attack Power, different Impact, different rarity. So there is no cap for damage output considering Attack Power. I will run more testes.

1 ReplyIt only does max damage on mobs equal or higher all damage nerfed in lowel lv areas, they must make game equal to surrounding players in all fairness is a crock of shit. No other game dumbs ya down for weeker mobs.

1 ReplyUn-upgraded Suros regime auto rifle on last boss of Vault of Glass ... 1100-1300 damage per crit hit. Upgraded Suros regime on last boss ... 1600-1800 damage per crit hit. Your argument is invalid. Sorry.

Just upgrade all your weapons to the max till the last part requiring ascendant materials for better attack power thats what I did and then you can decide how you want to spend them.
-
Thx for all your input :) I will do more research :) This time on higher level enemies. Maybe it's true with this damage cap per enemies level.
-
2 RepliesTry testing it on something higher than level two. I've observed there seems to be a damage cap when fighting enemies considerably lower than yourself.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

It's not only important for enemies a higher level than yours. It's essentially your armor penetration which of course is good for higher level monsters, but you also have more damage potential on just about ALL enemies, eventually capped at a certain amount. Your overall "light" level is more important for damaging higher level enemies. Regardless, impact is still damage per bullet modified by enemy level. The higher your level and weapon attack, the less handicap to your guns impact.

I have a full upgraded MIDA MT and it does more Damage. It was bout 250 Crit and now its 306 Crit. I am Lvl 29.
-
2 RepliesGoing to guess you didn't take Impact into consideration?
-
3 RepliesWhen I've upgraded the damage on my guns, they've done more damage to the enemies I shoot regardless of them being a lower level than me... Lvl 27 BTW

Edited by The_PiQ: 10/2/2014 11:34:45 AMI did take Impact into consideration. Impact is considered only towards enemies of lower level. So if I'm 29lv i look only at impact. Attack Power dosen't change anything. Impact is for lower level enemies, Attack Power is for higer level enemies. I tested it on Hand Cannons. Rare with almost max impact, The Devil You Know and Thorn. So damage difference per bullet is considerable. It's about 30HP in normal shot and 90HP with crits. It was tested on lv2 enemies in Cosmodrome. Of course Thorn is poisoning enemies so you can say it's compensated for Impact loss. But still taking into consideration only bullet damage it's weaker.

i feel somewhat the same. it does feel like the damage upgrades are pointless. my legendary hand cannon is the same now as it did when i first got it. for the materials you have to put in i think the damage should make a real difference. but i also see how it would be an incredibly hard thing to do.
