I'm putting this up so people have something to downvote really, but I'll put actual complaints here incase someone reads it.
I really have a lot I want to do in Destiny 2. I really do. I'm missing stuff from the raids that are about to be vaulted. I need to work on getting the Outbreak Perfected catalyst. I need to work on titles, and I need to farm umbral engrams for god rolls.
I just don't want to play though.
I needed to farm the double loot nightfalls for upgrade materials too, but I skipped it because I just didn't want to play.
So much to do, but I don't want to play. This feels like something is wrong, but I can't place it.
In D1, we had times where I had nothing to do, but I still wanted to play, so I would come on and do PvP at least. I would experiment. I would get weapons I thought were bad but looked cool at least. I made things for me to do when there were content droughts.
In D2, I still have content to go through, but I don't want to do it. When I get on, I mostly just bring new people through Prophecy because I think that's fun at least, but the motivation to get on is rarely there.
Does anyone know why I feel this way? I don't hate Destiny 2. I just don't feel motivated to do it anymore.
Edit: Wait, what? I left for school for six hours and came back to this post having blown up!

You are burned out on a pointless grind. You are addicted, put the game down and play something else or go have some fun. More to life than destiny .
-
I took two years off in both D1 and D2. What’s crazy is that tons of other players do the same thing. I came back to D1 just before D2 launch. I left D2 right at Foresaken launch.

This is how a lot of people feel. The game has become a "chore list" of things you "have to do". This game is build on fomo, and fomo for things that don't even matter at all. Like seals...... I just try to play things nowadays that I do like to do. Only thing you really have to do every season is some lightleveling to be able to play some content. Thats about it. And tbh I'm sick of that to.

Edited by A-Train_GO_HAWKS: 10/7/2020 4:48:54 AMYour reaction reeks of intelligence. A smart person would see a moment of clarity as an opportunity. An opportunity to stop wasting his or her time on grinding endlessly for meaningless cosmetics, temporarily useful currencies, gear, and weapons which will either soon be nerfed into the ground or made to be obsolete.

3 RepliesWhen everything is going away it makes you not care about your gear. Even P2W gear from the season pass will be expiring next season. Fomo and Sunsetting is having the intended reverse affect and driving players away in droves. At the very least it’s making them play far less as there’s no reason to grind for anything RNG based anymore.

1 ReplyIf it wasn't for the great friends I've made in our Clan I don't think I'd play anymore!
-
1 ReplyI see you've been here 5 years. You're just over the game at this point. You need a long break or just move away for good. I'm the exact same. Breaks help, even starting new accs help, but very soon you're back where you started. It's still a huge broken hamster wheel, run by morons, with good gunplay. Gunplay used to be enough, these days it's not. New cod beta today then I might jump ship in Nov. Watched the reveal trailer yday n didn't feel 1 ounce of hype, nothing.

1 ReplyEdited by Jacira: 10/8/2020 3:53:46 PMI am the same, so many more quests to do. I started playing Destiny 2 around 2-3 months ago and in that time I have gotten my entire quest log down to a single page, having collected almost all quests except crucible ones and repeatable dreambane ones. I was so happy last week when I finally got Hush and Python from grinding out Gambit. Even this week, I was really looking forward to grinding out my last two pinnacle gear pieces to max out my light and smash the double reward NF's for better statted exotics and crafting materials. However what did it for me was this event, having marketed the FOTL ornaments down our throats, and then making them only attainable through an unrealistic amount of Bright Dust, or paying for them. Effectively what equates to $27AUD for one set! It just completely pulled me out of my immersion in the game and made me look at myself and say "why am I doing this?" Before Destiny 2 to me was this awesome, immersive place where I could walk around and find awesome hidden things like the Mixtape in Zavala's office, or the gap in the wall into the outside of the map at the Endless Gate in order to retrieve an investigate lore item that has become inaccessible since they renovated that area. Now, with the FOTL, everywhere I look at the tower I see the Halloween decorations that are just screaming "pay for me". This is compounded by the fact that the only honest, respectable way to earn the lesser in-game event rewards is actually broken! And I think Bungie have been developing this game long enough that this kind of thing is hard to believe it's a mistake. I still just don't understand why the armor wasn't accessible like the solstice armour was. I thought that was going to be the new norm for them, since I always blamed Activision for the cash cow that Destiny became. Oh well, at least now I can go back to smashing out all the collectibles in the Red Dead campaign.

1 ReplyI think it's a death by a thousand cuts. Like, I still haven't reached 1060 on all characters- yet if I manage to do so (I need armor pieces, but every pinnacle I got last week was a gun), it'll be in time for the new power cap. So....it's pointless, a waste of time. I still don't have my Outbreak Perfected catalyst completed. I need three more weeks of the heroic zero hour. Yet....I never even use that gun any more, haven't for about a year. So what would be the point of that effort? Grinding for god rolls or high powered armor - they have an expiration date. Even if I get the perfect gun - - it'll get sunset, so why obtain a gun with a ticking expiration rate when I'll just have to get another one? It makes the coolest gear just seem transient, a rental. Before, if you got a god roll there was satisfaction in putting it in your vault. It was awesome and a permanent part of your collection. The same applies to grinding for upgrade materials. You could get a 70 stat roll and masterwork it....but then you'll need to do it again. Not to mention you have to have one that will apply the right mods and also one of each element. There are so many things like this in D2, little things that add up to a feeling of dissatisfaction. Even if the gameplay is fun, Cayde is dead (hence funny banter), the campaign was removed, so the story is very spotty, we have sunsetting and an upgrade system that make our gear seem empty and less valuable, we've got the vaulting of a large amount of content, so the urgency is 'do it before it is gone', which is not fun- it's just stress. For me, you can add to this the fact that D2 crucible, another activity, has never been fun. Even when I was doing well, I was not enjoying myself. And I haven't touched it (other than doing the IB quest at the beginning of this season) since they switched to CBMM in most game modes. It just seems like all of these inconveniences, dissatisfactions, feelings of emptiness, little stresses, add up to make it feel like not worth the effort to do most things. Even if you love the game.

1 ReplyAgreed. I always say it, but d1 had something that kept me playing even outside of quests etc. But even though d2 has more content (well, till November anyway) I just can't be bothered. Maybe it's the way the game has evolved into a weekly list of chores with no real rewards, I honestly don't know.
-
4 RepliesGood post. I also don't care to play much these days. I switch the game on out of habit and then float in orbit questioning why I even bothered switching on at all as every activity I think about just seems so damn boring..... At least in D1 during dry spells i could drop my light and help lower level players through strikes, and then offer them the opportunity to run nightfalls and raids. Even a simple task like helping a low level solo player through a nightfall was fun for me because hearing their excitement upon completing the activity and receiving a mostly good loot drop at the end made the game cool to play.
-
I’ve only played on Tuesday afternoons for a month, just to do the weekly Eris Morn mission. Now that’s complete so I guess I’ll wait until new light. The game just became a boring grind.
-
2 RepliesI still to this day have 0 of the titles why? They don't mean anything to me if I get one it will purely be by coincidence. I do some content I don't want to mainly for the exotics and associated catalysts. Probably the parts I do enjoy most are the nightfalls and pvp Iron Banner even though the rewards are horrible compared to D1(yes I'm serious I actually enjoy Iron Banner) I'm thinking about going into the dungeons blind and solo (yet to do any as I had a big break from D2, when I left they didn't exist) I still to this day haven't masterworked any armor as I don't really feel the need for it (I don't do endgame pve raids as I'm a soloist) Because of how I play I'm not forced into anything really probably the longest and most annoying slog was grinding the Gambit and pvp tribute hall statues with no Leviathan gear outside of bad juju rifle for the catalyst.
-
Here's a tip. If you don't want to play - don't. At the end of the day, you'll be grinding to complete your collection or find your God roll on a weapon that you won't be able to use for a huge amount of time. Psychologically, the game is designed to make you feel like you HAVE to play, that you HAVE to complete your collection. The fact you don't want to play isn't a bad thing. Nothing happens if you don't complete everything before the expansion. Live your life and don't fret it.

stuff-to-do doesn't automatically equal fun or compelling its just a lot of treadmills without enough content or fun, heavy repetition makes it worse
-
1 ReplyRight there with you brother. I can't tell you how many times I have started this game over the last 3 weeks, just to sit in orbit for 5 minutes and then turn it off again. I have zero motivation to play this game anymore, it is just not fun. It's not rewarding, there are bugs everywhere, and there's simply no joy in it anymore. I tried to play FotL today and it was a shitshow of bugs and Eververse. I'm out until Nov, and even then I have to see what BL brings before I even think of paying for it.

1 ReplyEdited by Tru-Zrue: 10/9/2020 11:38:24 AMThere’s a lot to do in d2, but none of it matters if it isn’t things you’d enjoy doing. Bungie went with the quantity over quality approach for most of d2. And the little bit of quality they had, they killed. For me? I hate titles, the raids, don’t care for pinnacle grind (went for Luna, got it, said -blam!- the others), gambit? 🤢🤮. So I’m limited in what I can/will do.....there shit to do but I wouldn’t enjoy it at all. In d1 there were droughts, limited content, but ffs when it was fun...it was fuuuuun, even during the droughts sometimes. Not saying I didn’t -blam!- throughout d1 oooooohh boy I had my Fair share of salt. But I enjoyed it like crazy. Bought almost every dlc, got one free. Happy this game isn’t an addiction any more. Edit: Simple Solution? Bring back/keep quality content/ update it. I’m talking about any and everything good. PoE, factions/faction wars, more solo egc with rewards, stop with this shitty looking loot AND my store, etc.....The -blam!- am I kidding.
-
Yeah, crucible carries the game in D1. If you look at it, D2 is much more Grindy with a garbage crucible. In D1, it was let’s play crucible. I want to take a break and I can use this to get better at crucible. Let’s go do this pretty fun activity to do that. But crucible is buns and the only good activities are raids, menagerie and escalation protocol. The games exotic quests are boring a tedious and strikes are boring now because most strike specific loot is buns, no new strikes have been added, and every thing in the game makes you get kills in strikes.

4 RepliesI stopped playing for a while and tried getting wayfarer as I only need the osprey and the ikelos sniper, farmer all week on the ordeal a week or so ago and didn’t get it a single time yet my brother gets it the second run he did with me, exotics hardly ever drop for me at all so there’s no joy in that. All the content is basically old content that doesn’t really matter anymore besides pvp and maybe the raids ( if I ever wanted to do them) I’m not a fan of the overly mechanic heavy raids too much to worry about all at once just for some neat looking weapons that have average rolls you could get on any other weapon. Nothing to really chase anymore Games wack right now
-
Yep, came back today and all my ascendant shards were deleted, and the new event is garbage. I'll work on my fallen mods and do bounties, but otherwise, I am signing off.
-
1 ReplySuck it up and back to the grind stone. This hamster wheel doesn’t turn itself.

Edited by AKAdoubleA: 10/7/2020 3:32:27 AMThere's something definitely wrong with your post. It says you "NEED" to do these things. No, you don't need to do them. You may feel the need to do them. Want to know why that is? It's called "fear of missing out" or "fomo." Something puke Smith said they'd be "toning down" but, have actually doubled down on it with sunsetting and the removal of content. You NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER need to do anything in a VIDEO GAME. EVER.
-
I needed to farm the double loot nightfalls for upgrade materials too, but I skipped it because I just didn't want to play.
LOL, This was me. The game is so shallow. I feel like I'm playing this old browser based star wars game that was just about loot upgrades. There was nothing there. So double loot, I just didn't care.
-
Hard to put a finger on why u don’t want to play? Oh wait yeah forgot it’s bc everything u do is for nothing and will be deleted in a year lol
-
In 3 years of D1 I took one 3 month break, in D2 I’ve tended to take at least a 6 month break every year. This worked really well in Y1 and Y2 cause when I came back I had a couple of DLCs to play through and tons of weapons to grind for. This year I stopped playing January and came back about 4 weeks ago. . I’ve been having fun but the seasonal model and this FOMO shit makes me less inclined to come back and will shorten how long it takes before I want a break again.
-
I feel the same way. I’ve tried to play a few times in the past few weeks and just turn it off after 5-10 min.
