Well, those are THE PvE meta weapons. Grenade Launchers(especially Aggressives due to their faster firing rate)output a lot of damage quickly with Spike Grenades and can be used at range(full court makes it better).
Snipers are the ideal special weapons to use due to the range you want to be in for high-level activity encounters where everything is a bullet sponge(it doesn't help that red bars got buffed to no longer take 3x crit damage so they are tankier now). You almost never want to use a shotgun for like Master activities due to OHK stomps, champions, and aggressive adds.
Then buff the others. You have literally every opportunity to. You dont always have to nerf things. You could buff an auto rifles damage (which they did, in pvp) or give pulses more range in pve. Bungie wants the community to use a variety of weapons. Nerfing the meta will just change the meta to another op weapon. And then the process repeats itself. Look at lord of wolves. It used to not even being as close as good as it is today. But the meta shifted and it got a buff. Then it got nerfed for being to strong (dps wise) and then it became the 10 meter Ohko weapon we all love and hate. Nerfing the meta only makes another meta. I get it. Not all nerfs are bad for the game. But the pve sandbox could be easily balanced. Pvp not so much. So why nerf them when you could buff others?
