I've been reading a bit more lately, and I want to read more, even if it means sacrificing my precious video game time.
When I was younger, I used to deliberately tackle works I knew were known not only for their entertainment value, but verbal and intellectual strengths as well. I hoped absorbing works that challenged me would in the long run make me a better writer. As I got older, I fell away somewhat from "athletic" reading and let video games, shitposting, and required college reading fill my spare time.
In short, I want to make "athletic" reading (reading that offers more than entertainment alone) a more active part of my life again. I'm not saying I want to go full philosopher monk and renounce video games, I just want to pursue more worthwhile books than I have been recently. I don't know about you guys, but I like to hoard books, books I know I will want to read. Sadly (and comically) I have several shelves of books I know are "good" but that I've never tackled.
And all this got me thinking, why not start some sort of offtopic book club? Those interested could form a discord b.net group. A place where we could suggest interesting titles we've either read or want to read, assign a tentative due date, then come back and discuss said title(s). Maybe make an offical post about it where others can chime in on the discussion. It could be just one book, or several. Something we are all interested in, know will challenge us on some level, and that we can all find access to.
Anyway, this was just an idea I had. And I know I've already written a book just suggesting the idea, lol. Any thoughts/interest?

1 ReplyI’m not much of a reader (unless it’s a comic book) but that doesn’t mean I’ve read a few books that peaked my interest.
