“It’s a long road. Enjoy it.”
This is the ‘slogan’ of the Hopscotch. I don’t believe that’s a coincidence. Every time I read it I read:
“It’s going to be a long road before you get your hands on me. You have to play many, many strikes before you even see me. But make the best of it and try to enjoy it.”
Now, I was lucky enough to get one after about 40 or 50 dragon strikes. I never did a dragon strike after that. I was so sick of it.
Here you see YouTube user Destinova playing 200 dragon strikes (you only see the rewards): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yO7eaUARHqc In those 200 strikes Hopscotch drops 6 times I believe, giving it a drop rate of about 1% per player per strike.
If a strike takes about 12 minutes on average, and you have to play 100 strikes to get one, you played about 20 hours of strikes. And that’s without the loading time before and after the strikes. A long road indeed.
Since yesterday, the Hopscotch Pilgrim is nothing more than an uglier version of the 55A-Alfate. The gun you could have bought for only 150 vanguard marks. Yes.
I see people post things like “but it was OP. You knew a nerf would hit this gun sooner or later.” I agree on some level. What I don’t understand is they completely changed the archetype of the gun. It is now just a 55A-Alfate.
The nerf on Hopscotch Pilgrim is an intentional spit in the face. Here’s why:
1. Bungie knew how good this gun was going to be from the start. So why make it? It should be no surprise to them that it is (or was) very powerful. If you give a gun high impact, high aim assist and high stability you know beforehand it’s going to be powerful. You can even calculate the time to kill. Why did they even make a gun like this? First Suros, then Vex, last half year The Last Word and Thorn and the last months Hopscotch. Why even make a gun like this? Saying they nerfed it because it is too powerful is just plain stupid. Why make it to begin with?
2. What they did wrong on Hopscotch is they even changed its archetype. I believe that has not been done anywhere in Destiny until now. If this gun has too much aim assist or stability, change that to a level it’s not going to be more powerful than The Messenger. Instead they just made it an 55A-Alfate.
3. It took many people many, many hours to get it. Bungie knew this. They gave it a very low drop rate so people had to grind even more (something Bungie loves to let people do). Once you had it you had to spend many, many motes of light on it to get a roll you like. I spend about 70 motes to get a drop I liked enough. Had to grind the exclusion zone for glimmer for many many hours to but enough weapon parts to reforge it. I would’ve never done this for a 55A-Alfate. Nobody would. Can I get those weapon parts, glimmer, motes of light and hours back?
Time is money, Bungie. I’m surprised what you did is even legal. What you did to the Hopscotch is like letting someone pay for a nice Ferrari and later saying:
“It’s too fast! Here’s a nice Volkswagen. It will be the same price as the Ferrari, but at least it’s not that fast.”

“But I spend so much money (motes, glimmer, weapon parts, hours) on this Ferrari. I wouldn’t have spent this money on a Volkswagen!”

“Well, in the end you did. Now bye, bye.”
So Bungie, put your money were your mouth is for once and reply! Nobody and I mean NOBODY would have grinded 300+ Dragon Strikes for a f*cking 55A-Alfate!!!!! NOBODY!!! You could’ve nerfed the archetype, but you can’t nerf a single gun and change that to a different gun. What’s next? SUROS will be a Necrocasm archetype kinda auto rifle?
You went into my profile and traded a Hopscotch I worked very hard for (and other people even more), for a regular 55A-Alfate with an uglier weapon skin. And you did that to everyone who has one. You stole that from us Bungie. Now be a nice thief and give it back.
Just to be clear: I would not have been angry if I could’ve just bought this gun for some vanguard marks and later it would get nerfed. It’s the time and energy people have to put into this game that can be ruined within a heartbeat. It’s the complete lack of respect you’ve shown us the last year. House of Wolves was fun, but it is undone by The Taken Wallet and 2.0 weapon “patch” of 10 GB.
So reply. I’m waiting. We all are.
EDIT: Some people don't get it, but this post about the Hopscotch is just an example of weird Bungie policy. It can ALSO be written about other weapons: Fatebringer, Icebreaker, Gjallarhorn, Thorn, Black Hammer. Whatever you want to put in. The Hopscotch is not yet a metaphor, but it comes close.
EDIT 2: BUNGIE! It's been 24 hours. You didn't respond. As usual. Probably rubbing yourself with $100,- bills.
I just looked in my vault. My HP is still a piece of crap. What are you waiting for? What? You need more $100,- bills? Well not from me. Not until you set things straight.
EDIT 3: I want to thank everybody for all the responses so far! More than Bungie ever did. I don’t care if you agree with me or not. I respect your opinion (or at least try to. :-) ). I understand Hopscotch was too powerful. I was expecting a nerf. I don’t mind a nerf. I DO mind they changed it’s archetype while The Messenger stays the same. If HP has more aim assist and stability than The Messenger please lower aim assist and stability to the same level as The Messenger. That’s fair! But they made a copy of the 55A-Alfate. I hope that is clear. To add insult to injury they removed Spare Change from the loot table. I deleted all my 5 spare changes for weapon parts after I got Hopscotch. I wasn’t expecting this to happen. Wish I deleted my two 55A-Alfates and kept my Spare Changes.
I personally don’t like high-rate-of-fire-low-impact pulse rifles, because I have to pull the trigger like a maniac. I want to prevent ever getting an RSI type of injury ever again. But I’m also sick of just holding a trigger of an auto rifle. I tried getting The Messenger from trials, but I’m just sick of spending hours on LFG sites trying to get a team together. Spare Change had in most cases a really weird recoil pattern that pulled the gun to the left. So I was really happy when I learned about the Hopscotch. I didn’t feel like doing 100 or more strikes, but was willing to do 4 or 5 per day for a number of days/weeks. I was lucky to get it after “only” 40 or 50 strikes.
I hope Bungie learns from this and restores Hopscotch to a level that is equal to The Messenger the way it is now.

1 ReplyBump. Personally, if they actually did what they said they would and nerfed all the high impact & stability pulse rifles, I wouldn't have been upset. But instead they lied about it and didn't nerf the others (The Messanger, Evergreen, and more. Just check them on planet destiny's database). It was a punch in the gut to their player base, something we've all come to expect but somehow hope for something better.

Gun is still ridiculous. Kills me across Map constantly.

4 RepliesYeah and undo the thorn nerf, everyone's favorite hand cannon!

Edited by Clever Little Rat: 9/14/2015 10:02:38 AMI think it has a better drop rate at the end of 28 Poe. I'm not proud of this but when I got my first won I dismantled it for vault space. I didn't know at how op at the time so don't judge me. I got it first Poe of the day. A couple weeks later the same thing happened. I say it has a better Poe drop rate from experience. I'm not upset about the impact nerf but I was pretty pissed to see they did the same thing to the red death. It's exotic it's supposed to feel powerful.

1 ReplyEveryone has a weapon that they worked hard for and grinded for. I lost my zombie apocalypse because it was under powered. I deleted it later to find out i could have brought it back to life later to in the next dlc. Get over it. You're not special. Its gone get over it.

HP wasn't even OP. Bungie's incompetence showed in 2.0 in dozens of ways

This is my first comment on the forums and I have to agree. This was really stupid. This change added with field scout nerf (at least give me extended mag) has killed ever desire I've had to play this game recently. I've gotten on to try the changes but I'm unmotivated, what's the point when anything you care about in the game can get mauled at anytime.

I feel your pain. I also went through the same grind for mine. However as no doubt has been mentioned the hopscotch still has max stability and can still two burst headshot it's just less forgiving if you miss. Messenger did get a stability nerf it's just less noticeable because messenger was less reliant on stability then hopscotch is. Oh well. I've had so many of my favorite weapons nerfed in this game you either move on or quit. I might take a little break after this expansion.

1 ReplyI agree with you. Bungie took everyones HPs and turned them into a 55AFs with 3 more bullets. Then they had the ordacity to still call it a Hopscotch Pilgrim. Its an utter disregard for the people's(those who spent time grinding for it) time and shows they have no respect for us.

4 RepliesNot here to read the whole post, but 6 out of 200 is not 1%, it's 3%.

I wish everyone would stop jerking themselves off over this f*cking noob weapon.

i agree, 200+ for me and finally got and then they nurf it and not the messenger. theyre basically saying "we dont care about pve, all our love is to pvp"

2 RepliesHonestly. Just goes to show not to work so hard or worried about getting a certain gun. You never know when it will be made irrelevant. Just be adaptable. Be able to pick up any weapon and destroy with it. That's how I play destiny. -seventh soul:)

7 RepliesIt was overpowered and rebalanced. Enjoy your new gun.

I got mine on the second strike, i was very lucky! Anyways, i also think that they did something very weird to it.. It was not a nerf, they redid the weapon stats..

10 RepliesEdited by stnlkukb: 9/11/2015 6:30:02 AMEven in my most cynical moments I don't truly think Destiny changes like this are a sadistic social rat maze. For me, here is the problem and it isn't about pulse rifles or their weapon damage stats either. There is a huge disconnect from the sandbox team to the player base. HUGE. HUGE. "Ah look, TTK is too quick on WEAPON A, well crap, we can't adjust that individual stat because our codebase is a F***ING house of cards and runny eggs so we will ignore it until we can rewrite this chunk of the engine. OHHHH But look, there's an easier fix, we'll just replace the archetype and FIX the problem: People having too much fun. BUNGIE, changes need to happen more fluidly, openly and often rather than wait and have a code change one day undo another 200 hours of progress from your players. I don't care how fragile your weapon system and code structure is. . I've said it before and I'll say it again. What the heck actually goes on at Bungie to drive these decisions? The number of people, like myself, who actually have a HP is pretty low compared to Messenger. I have three Messengers. ONE HP. Thorn users ran around getting lazy kills for nearly a year and the HP still requires you to aim. Nearly all positive changes in Destiny in the last six months haven't actually been new features, they have been to reverse something they left busted since day one. But then just when you think, "Man Bungie has their S**T together finally!" they do something to leave that same taste of S**T in your mouth. One of these days the "fool me twice" rule will finally take hold. "What heavy ammo glitch?!?!?" "No NO!! The Cryptarch isn't unfair, he has as PERSONALITY!" "Shooting into a cave is NOT how we imagined Destiny to be fun." "We can't tell Xur what to sell." Does anybody believe any of that stuff? 137 Strikes to get my Pilgrim. I'm keeping it. Getting it was far more triumphant than my trips to the Lighthouse and the useless weapons I got from the Elder Cipher or killing Crota on HM. Why? BECAUSE THE GUN WAS FUN TO USE.
-
5 RepliesYour the clown for doing all those strikes when you know all legendaries from year one gonna be irrelevant wen ttk comes out. Only upset because you cant get easy kills anymore. Dont worry there be a new op weapon so then you can go grind for that and feel special again.
-
I preferred the allfate even after I got Hopscotch. However, it is garbage that they nerfed it because it never was all that great to begin with.
-
Bump this shit. Over 400 strikes. Might the most incredible waste of time if ever committed to in my life. Won't waste anymore of my time jerk offs
-
Hopscotch was never an issue for me. I may have been killed by it here and there before nerf. Best weapon against anything before 2.0 was Thorn or Last Word anyway lol
-
2 RepliesBump - 50 hours grind down the pan. What's the point bothering with Destiny, once you graft and aquire decent weapons, Bungie nerf them. This won't change.....time to find a genuinely rewarding game instead of this disappointing forced attrition bullshit.
-
Agree completely. Took me forever to get it. What a waste... So disappointing.
