There are idiotic elements to both sides like the law actually allowing civilians to carry AR-15's in public because they can (seriously jail these pricks) then there are the idiots who think that their semiautomatic rifles are going to enable them to take on the police/government (lol no) and then we have irresponsible gun owners and people who just lack common sense. On the other side if it we have idiots who scapegoat firearms as if it were the only reason that somebody got killed (lol no murder is actually a societal thing) and then we also have idiots who think that gun control will keep guns out of the hands of criminals when they already have illegal weaponry. We have people who simply would not be able to defend themselves without a gun and if would be a shame to see an 80 something marine get killed during a robbery by some punks. Having guns is also about American rights. Oh and let's not mention that no country would dare invade the U.S because they would be fighting a whole population instead of a military. Personally I'm on the side of common sense. Restrictions on weapons is pointless but what wouldn't be pointless is evaluations based upon the security of weapons when in not in use by the licensed owner and maybe some more common sense type lessons over courses concerning firearms (like be aware of your gun at all times, and don't let a 12 year old shoot an automatic weapon)

So to all the people that say "just don't give guns to mentally unstable". Ok, that sounds good but who is going to say whether you are mentally unstable? Who gets to decide that, and then you have to think about that person becoming corrupt, then you gotta think about those people becoming corrupt and so on and so forth. Background checks, legal Identification, and seller evaluation of the buyer are good enough. Furthermore, you shouldn't he saying "gun" control as guns don't kill people, you should probably say "ammo" control as a gun is useless without ammo. Either way you throw it it's just a bad idea. If you were a criminal and you knew for a fact that this entire store/restaurant had no guns you would be confident in yourself and rob the place. Same could be said of the mentally unstable. But, if you had a suspicion that someone in there might have a gun, well, you'd be a lot more reserved or even put off and not even try.
