Checkmate is better and I’m right
I’ve now gone flawless this week twice with the Sturm and Drang combo on a Solar subclass playing at about a 1.8 k/D (my performance dipped after 11pm) in duos and solos.
No stasis freeeze no strand suspend no OHK no shoulder charge no cheese of any flavour just straight up gunplay and movement.
This now qualifies me to state that special ammo abundance and ability spam make the crucible less fun and less competitive. People crutch on the cheese. Checkmate is the future of D2 PvP. the end.

1 ReplyFun is subjective and it doesn’t make it less competitive. The two modes are different sure, you just happen to like one more. You liking it doesn’t make it objectively better.

2 RepliesSure, sure. I guess that's why Bungie had to completely reboot pvp after D2 Y1. But if you enjoy it, cool. I'm all for different modes for different folks, but the future? That's the past, and it's also pretty much every pvp shooter on the market.

12 RepliesI agree. Check mate is how PvP should be. Some changes i would say are 120 HC and bows should us a slight nerf on damage. They are way to forgiving. they outshine 140s and autos.

"Cheese" - something I view as requiring "low skill" Everything is "cheese," but it's fair because everyone is free to use what they want. Checkmate artificially limits options by creating an unbalanced Sandbox, both for Exotic armor and weapons. Should Bungie change the way specials and abilities work in PVP? Maybe a little. Should Bungie implement Checkmate rules, with its extremely unbalanced Sandbox? HECK NO. It's especially silly when you consider how balanced the weapon meta is in regular Crucible. More variety is better than less variety.

11 RepliesI don’t PvP much but can someone explain to me why shotguns are such a problem in destiny but not in games like CoD? Is it map design? Abilities? A combination of everything? They’re 1hk in other games but destiny is the only game where everything in PvP seems so problematic

Why grind for a special weapon, you'll barely get to use it. New supers in the next DLC, who cares... you won't get to use it. Keep Checkmate out of the regular D2 PvP sandbox.

Honestly its a brilliant game mode but for me I’m not going to get too attached to it, I’m waiting for Sod’s Law to happen it always does sooner or later. Be it bungie does something, the game breaks server/ error codes or glitches or when enough noise get heard from this community when the honeymoon period is over. It always ends up the same Sod’s Law comes out on top all the time.

It’s extremely fun, my hope is they just add it as a permanent additional playlist that way it makes everyone happy. Love seeing people squirm over a large portion of the community loving the playlist.
