Ok so I saw a post in the forums about Guardians vs. The Master Chief. Say what you want about that, but wherever you stand it was a great post. Here’s the link: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/259736151/0/0
SO. My question is:
If the Flood suddenly invaded the Last City, and we got to fight against Flood Fallen, Humans, and Cabal, what would happen? Would we win?
Another terrifying thought is would the Hive and Flood become one? I’m in a doozy imagining the possibilities.
Edit: Would a Guardian keep their light after being infected? Are Exos and Taken Immune? Maybe the Flood and the Hive would attack each other like rival insect nests?
O Reader Mine

SO. My question is: If the Flood suddenly invaded the Last City, and we got to fight against Flood Fallen, Humans, and Cabal, what would happen? Would we win?
If we caught them early, as in before any major infections or before a Gravemind can be created, then it's possible. However, the City itself would be at a high risk of being lost if the Flood managed to breach it.
Another terrifying thought is would the Hive and Flood become one? I’m in a doozy imagining the possibilities.
Flood Hive, or Hive Flood, would certainly be scary to think about, but it certainly wouldn't be mutual symbiosis. Parasites generally don't get along with each other.
Edit: Would a Guardian keep their light after being infected? Are Exos and Taken Immune? Maybe the Flood and the Hive would attack each other like rival insect nests?
If the ghost is unaffected, then an infected Guardian could probably be destroyed then reconstructed without much issue. It's unfortunate that we could never see a similar case since Asher's ghost was corrupted by the Vex. On the topic of other races though, I'd see it like this: Fallen/Eliksni would ultimately be Flood Food. They don't have any lightbearers or paracausal warriors to hold the line like Humanity and the Hive/Taken, nor do they have the same brute strength as the Cabal (from a numbers and tech standpoint). With their current numbers and generally unstable organization, they'd be consumed quickly. The Cabal could quickly end them early by outright nuking them or keeping their distance. However, if the Flood could establish any Graveminds then the Cabal's chances of winning become much smaller. If the Cabal were to lose though, they'd probably last longer than they did against the Hive. The Hive have an edge with their paracausal powers, and could probably be one of the only races to outright beat the Flood if they fight accordingly. However, this would come down to how the Hive plans to deal with them; if we talk about the pre-TTK Hive specifically, then they could certainly beat the Flood thanks to Oryx/Xivu Arath. The Taken might not be infectible, or at least not easily, and it wouldn't be surprising if they tried Taking the Flood to some extent. If the Taken can somehow manage to Take a Gravemind in particular, then the Flood would most likely lose in the long run. The Vex are perhaps the most interesting as they are effectively what the Flood could become: the ultimate (or at least final) life forms in a universe without space magic. The rest is in spoilers because I decided to go into length on it:
The Vex are the result of a repetitive pattern that always wins in the Flower Game, so one could assume that they should have the capability to defeat even a predatory parasitic species like the Flood. The Vex are also significantly more technologically advanced than the Flood to the point where they have pseudo-time travel, incredibly advanced and massive processing power, planet-sized reality prediction engines, teleportation on some near-unfathomable level, etc. Infecting the Vex would likely be difficult for the Flood since the Vex themselves are a microorganism fluid that is dangerous just to the touch as they can also infect individuals through self-replicating subroutines. Basically, the Vex can "no u" the Flood too. Even if the Flood can infect the Vex though, their subnets are programmed to run separately from the rest of the network to optimize functionality and perhaps reduce being compromised on a large scale, thus the entire network will generally not be threatened except by very powerful paracausal beings like Oryx. Now this isn't to say the Flood can't ever beat the Vex, but looking at each of their feats, I would say the Vex are more likely to win in the long run.
Saint would solo them.

8 RepliesEdited by Tâxx, Herald of the IRS: 9/28/2021 5:03:47 PMExos don't have anything for the Flood to infect. Plus they were designed to be war machines. Human and Awoken guardians would have a fair bit of trouble since the Flood would presumably be able to infect their bodies, but Exo Guardians would lead charges deep into Flood territory and kill the Gravemind. (We all know Saint would just murder the Gravemind) Human and Awoken infected Guardians? They would just be incinerated by fellow Exo Guardians and resurrected by their Ghost free and clear. Why didn't the Iron Lords do this with Siva? My guess is because Siva consumed their Ghosts as well.
Any threat that the Guardians couldn't handle would spur the Traveler into action. The Traveler would just delete the Flood
Taken I'd say are sorta immune. Any attempts to infect a Taken would draw the attention of the Taken's master, which would lead to the Deep Taking the Flood. As for the Hive? The normal hive would be Flood food. But any of the 3 Hive Gods would step in and crush the Flood. Xivu turning the Flood into Wrathborn, Savathûn manipulating the Gravemind into some trap, and Oryx just Taking the Gravemind. Bonus: How would the Vex do? They would exterminate the Vex without a problem. The Vex are machines, and radiolaria is microscopic, too small for a Flood Spore to infect (presumably). Plus radiolaria is infectious too Extra Bonus: Cabal, Fallen and Scorn? Fallen: Flood food. Barons, Archons, and Kells would probably be a little difficult for Flood troops but those are quite rare nowadays. Cabal: They would put up a real good fight. Cabal weaponry is high explosive and incendiary, plus flamethrowers. They might be able to put an end to the Flood IF they catch them early enough (since Cabal strategy dictates that if you can't win on the ground nuke it from orbit), but more likely the Flood would win. Scorn: Difficult to say. Scorn are already undead biomass reanimated by Darkness-infused ether. Probably should leave this one up to Superskybro.

If the Flood got on Earth at all, we are well and truly screwed. It's not just the infection forms, combat forms, and carriers you have to worry about, it's the air too. Flood spores can be inhaled, and the infection can begin that way too. Even if Guardians were immune, they'd eventually be guarding a tomb.

Per flood lore, exos would probably fall to their logic plague and possibly ghosts. I've given it thought in the past and i think the vex and taken would have the best chance followed by the hive and scorn. Vex are probably the perfect form since they have machine bodies with an organic core that courses with arc energy which can infect other creatures. No matter how the flood tries to infect them they wouldn't be able to since infection forms would be electrocuted and spors would dissolve. Their biological cores would protect them from logic plagues. Plus they infect plants in a matter that kills all life. Meaning no biomass for the flood to build with.

1 ReplyIf I were the flood I would ideally want to attack if rasputin is at full power so I could use the logic plague to control rasputin and defeat humanity like how the flood used Mendicant bias to defeat the forerunners. For the fallen and cabal the flood would be able to infect and wipe them out. They would go after them first so a Gravemind could be formed and the logic plague could happen. Hive and vex will be tricky. The flood are very very smart and would try to study the nature of these species (particularly the hive and their throneworlds and the sword logic. All of this could fall apart if the grave mind is taken by the hive, (hive controlling flood is a terrifying idea). With the hive they get their powers from the worm so the flood have 2 things to infect for every hive solider. The hive might come up with some sort of death ritual to kill the flood. The vex would be next to impossible to infect. Even air spore flood would be electrocuted upon trying to infect a vex, plus the vex would try to infect it as well. And the vex can time travel. Scorn are a confusing topic. They're already dead biomass powered by dark ether. I'll let superskybro handle this one. I'm not sure about taken but I'm going to say they can't be infected. Guardians and ghost are interesting. Can the flood use the logic plague on the ghost? If so we're in trouble. Otherwise if we got infected we can kill ourselves and the Ghost will ressurect us, if the flood forms don't grab it first and step on it. I'm not sure how healing rifts deal with flood, or how a gun that shoots miniature black holes can mess with them. Or if the flood do start to win, will the traveler just send out a pulse and deal with them like it did ghual? I know the pyramids would wipe the flood out if they messed with it. Thoughts?

1 ReplyAww that was my post! Thank you!

We cant even manage a few thrall and screebs so no we are all dead. Unless you lag switch and then all is good.

1 ReplyThe flood would have no answer for shatter-dive.

3 RepliesYes. Master chief only had a normal AR and a giant bomb. It would take a recall to all guardians, but with all the exotics and powerful weapons, we could protect the last city

Edited by High Charity: 9/28/2021 2:42:40 AMThe Flood wins. It isn't even remotely close. They're the Taken on steroids, and the Hive pushed Guardians off of the moon.

1 ReplyYeah, as long as you pay the 29.99-79.99 price for that expansion.

One of the most terrifying things about the Flood is that it can even infect non-biologicals, AI, with something called the Logic Plague (basically just Speech 100). Not even our ghosts are safe.
-
I would say a slow death of attrition would be inevitable. Guardians can be reconstructed by our ghosts and we would be holding the wall so IF the flood was inside the city? We would only have to deal with the human populace and keep them safe. As for taking on other enemy types? Cabal- Would hold out for a long time. They have arsenals of weapons that are good at dispatching enemy types, but they would eventually lose and be consumed. Hive- Honestly... I would ultimately say the hive would like the flood, but would not be allies once they start losing units to them, but would like the regenerative capabilities. Ultimately, the flood would consume them. Fallen- No chance. Vex- The best bet for killing the flood due to no conversion being possible and blast cannons that would rip them apart. Guardians- Stalemate once the flood was in bad positions to come after us and we would be seeking the Gravemind once we found out about it. Taken- Would... convert... the flood. Going with the fun possibility of both being destroyed and possibly controlling them.

2 RepliesEdited by KannibalKlown: 9/26/2021 5:31:38 AMIt’s a good thought experiment. We know guardians can be infected with stuff. Specifically nanotech such as SIVA and other proto-siva experiments. So if that’s the case then theoretically we could be infected with Flood spores. Which would be… bad. I don’t recall enough about the flood to remember if they need complex organisms to infect. Or if colonies of single cell Vex organisms can be infected. Either way I see the vex being involved. They could see the flood as a tool to try to reconfigure to covert people into raw material for vex or something. It would depend if the gardener and winnower would sit back and let it happen, or take direct intervention since it screws with their plans. Technically the flood could be considered the perfect representation of sword logic. It consumes everything and takes it to be a single race / organism. Meaning left unchecked it would be the final survivor at the end of time. On the other hand, it’s also combining things. So the winnower might be disgusted at that. Instead of a single surviving race killing everything, all races survive

2 RepliesThe Flood would most likely attack the Hive. If at all, the Flood would only ever ally with another species if it helps the Floods own goals or accomplishes something the Flood currently cannot achieve on their own under any circumstance. Otherwise the Flood simply consumes all. I would assume that Exos are immune to the Flood, as they don't have any way to infect them (remember that they infect species by tapping their spinal cords). I consider it the same way the Flood cannot infect Forerunner Constructs. No idea about the Taken as it's unknown if they actually still have biomass. If the Flood could infect them I can also imagine that Oryx, if he would still be alive, would be able to take that Flood Unit (and honestly Taken Flood sounds like an incredible idea). Whether they can infect Human/Awoken Guardians or not, either way I would probably just lead to an endless war with no winners, unless the Flood finds a way to infect or destroy Ghosts (probably not possible, like with Exos). I believe they would be able to infect Guardians, however Ghosts would be able to rid them of the infection by destroying and reconstructing the actual Guardian.
