This just isn’t enjoyable when every time I take a break from the game I’m punished with being left behind due to losing tons of power just by being inactive. I understand that it’s 10 power per season, but I don’t want to be forced to do this garbage every season just to stay relevant.
It’s not fun anymore, which sucks because there is stuff I’d like to do, I just don’t have fun trying to get back to that level I was already at
Edit: I understand those of you saying it keeps us engaged in the game, I really do understand your viewpoint, but let me explain why that isn’t a healthy viewpoint.
It creates negative engagement when you have returning players between seasons see that the work they put it is stripped away just for the sake of making us grind it out the exact same way again and again. Yes, it is engagement, I won’t deny that at all, but it isn’t positive engagement. Negative engagement is what causes people to quit games very quickly. If you have a repeated bad experience with a game, you are far more likely to stop playing than if that bad experience was non existent.
The simple truth is that this repeated power increase every season, whether it be by 10, 1, 20, 50, whatever it is, isn’t going to offer anything positive to us the players, and will instead create a more annoying experience for anyone who wants to be invested in the game. It is not necessary for the game, and the only time the power cap should increase is for expansion releases as it is a secondary reward to progressing through a new campaign that motivates and encourages players to keep playing.

1 ReplyEdited by iJonny: 8/17/2021 12:56:09 PMIt is you that take breaks but the game doesn't. The game keeps going. You only power up by 10 if you keep up with the game can't be that Hard. Then of course personal life are more important but the game will still move on. Can't complain about that but hey it's your opinion.🍻

Maybe these types of games aren’t for you, jrpgs might be your style.

Edited by everwilling: 8/19/2021 10:14:46 AMThis game is not for you 🤷🏼♂️

1 ReplyLooking at your game history, none of the content you play requires a power lvl or is even effected by power lvl so why does it matter?
-
This game isn’t for you, sorry
-
2 RepliesHow tf do you think you are punished? You don't play of course you must catch up, common game experience. To say you are punished would be Bungie targets you specifically. Get out of your pissy feelings and play, or don't.
-
2 RepliesI really think they should just drop the power level thing and design somthing new instead.
-
1 ReplyI placed a similar complaint in the D2 Reddit some weeks ago and it was immediately closed by moderators. Criticism is not allowed. Keep grinding.

Bungie has been using their grind as content for years. The constant LL grind broke me. They act like they did us a favor making only a 10 LL pinnacle grind except they just moved it to the artifact. Only to have it all reset at the end of a season. This is how they get away with not pushing out real content, they keep us busy on the hamster wheel.
-
I 100% agree. Thankfully it looks like we can just slow level this coming season. It is a huge pain at this point though
-
"That is the Bungie way!"
-
Its called taking a very long break ie. Quitting

5 RepliesBut but... if you don't have Power leveling requirement each season then what else would you do in the game? Bungie logic. Making GMNF 40 levels above and MVoG 30 levels above the equipment power level is the only way Bungie can keep this meager content going for months rather than days. The story is too slow, it took us 3 months to closr Vex portla controlled via Taken gods and deal with Laxmi who turned out to be nothing more than a corrupt politician. Osiris sus is just another let down. Personally, everything related to Osiris has been boring so far in D2. Anyways, the drip feed content can only be prolonged for so much and sold so many times. Next season will be a slog. I dont want to unlock and re-chase my artifact for next master/GM activity as I've done it for so many seasons. It's a slow slog. However, for new lights who buy individual season pass, this is the only activity in this game. For them it's a new experience. Bungie relies on new sales for this game and benefits largely from new players who like to grind same activity for the first time in the season. Returning vets like us are useless as we have already paid for the stuff and we don't add any monetary value to their account. The game is designed as a one off experience and old complainers like us are just balanced accounts who are done and dusted as far as Bungie is concerned.

8 RepliesThis games leveling system not only breaks the fundamental relationship between you and progression, it caps your chances each week and makes you play every part of the game for maximum efficiency. I would say just stop interacting with it. Only way to send the message you want.
-
So... Don't? Just play what content you want Unless the only content you want to play are gm nightfalls you don't need high light level
-
5 RepliesNo more leveling?! Seriously??? That’s where we are at now? You want to take away leveling because you took a break? I hate the community in this forum.
-
9 RepliesYou know what's weird, I feel like it took me just as long to level up the 10 as it used to take me to level up the 50, while playing the same amount.
-
Aye thats what happens as time on the game goes on what would happen after or before is really only down to the last few remaining points made right at the start.
Matt Damon
4 RepliesIts an artificial grind designed to keep players playing without ever getting content for it. We're supposed to be happy when we go up a level, 'oh joy! I went up a level!' 😄...😑 This wouldn't be so bad if the older content that requires a minimum level to do became that much easier to complete as we got higher in levels, but bungie scaled them to be difficult no matter how high your level is. Thus defeating what leveling up is about.

Edited by ImOnlyBleeding: 8/16/2021 11:57:06 PMI agree that the constant reset is annoying. It's really the two-front grind that becomes annoying. I don't mind the pinnacle grind - I would do it anyway, as I like raids and dungeons, which is where a big chunk of pinnacles come from. The annoying part is the grind to +15 or +20 on the artifact to play GMs or Master VoG. That gets tiresome, as maximizing XP gains pulls you out of the parts of the game that most people want to play (not saying that you can't enjoy bounty grinding in lost sectors, but I find that tedious). Being reset every 3 months back to 0 on the artifact and having to regrind millions of XP is the part that I would like to do away with.
-
It would be one thing if it were just artifact power or just raw power, but both? That's just really frustrating.
-
And you you have to grind out 15-20 power levels on the artifact that resets every season for the grandmaster content on top of that.

3 RepliesIt's a drag but it's way easier now than ever before

9 RepliesEdited by Redacted: 8/15/2021 7:06:05 PMIf you can’t handle leveling up every season, you’re definitely playing the wrong game. Plus, you haven’t even hit the hard cap which is incredibly easy right now.
-
Some of the more hardcore can reach the cap in around the first week for at least 1 character should RNG permit. Less hardcore can reach that cap in a few weeks just focusing on 1 character. Next season is going to be a long one. Don't try to make it feel like its a race. If you aren't interested then you aren't interested. Take some time off perhaps. I will agree that this bonus power system is not exactly efficient and well synergized but besides going back to steep power caps, I'm not sure what I could suggest as an alternative. If Bungie plans on keeping it they could at least make more options for obtain exp. We got the annoyingly tedious bounty system, "Seasonal challenges," and any Pinnacle and Powerful reward trigger giving a moderate amount. (But those are triggered once per week per character.) Not much is being earned anywhere else unfortunately and I find that bad.
