Plus two drops are too unforgiving. They stick you at the mercy of RNG to hope you get the one drop that will actually boost your power level.
There are so many solutions to this problem.
One is the give a larger sized pinnacle grind. For example a 15 power level grind instead of a 10 power level grind, but instead of pinnacle drops being +1 or +2 they're +3 to +6 making you need less drops to climb 1 power level and let you get higher gear.
Another example is more forgiving infusion. Armor can be infused into any armor with the same affinity, and weapons can be infused into weapons that take the same ammo type or are in the same slot.
My favorite example is an infusion token, each pinnacle drop will be replaced by a high power drop, but be accompanied by an infusion token. This token will boost the power of one piece of gear you choose to +1 or +2 power above your highest base power level.
The final stretch of the power climb is highly unsatisfying and there are plenty of ways to improve it similar to the ones I listed here.

15 RepliesGetting pinnacles is probably the NO 1 reason most people log in to play. Getting pinnacle dupes is what keeps people's LL down and forces them to grind. I think it's very obvious that we don't deal with RNG here, it's just a screwed system. As far as the leveling system is based on pinnacles, Bungie will never change their system that forces pinnacle dupes on players. They will probably just keep adding sources of pinnacles and make people grind even more. I mean, those +1 pinnacles mean nothing 90% of the time, they rarely bump up your LL. If you get dupes for your +2 pinnacles, you're basically screwed. To me, this happens way too often. Yesterday I got 4 energy weapons in a row for pinnacles, all 1058. Today I got two power weapons, both 1058. Long story short, take it or leave it. It feels bad, I know it very well, but they won't change it. It benefits them way too much.
