I know, I know, it's a tough request since all the main perks that matter (at least in PvE) are related to reload, damage perks, crowd control, scavenging mods, and so on and so forth. If you don't sunset weapons, then there's no new weapons to look forward to since you already sort of have the best perks on your current weapons. If you do sunset weapons, then people will generally be looking for the exact same things to get on their new weapons, and most will be frustrated that you made the time they spent grinding weapons essentially worth nothing in the long run.
The same thing for armour - having to get rid of the old armour which has stats that you have specifically sought out for your playstyle sucks, and you will only be looking to hope for the same distribution and stats that you had on your previous armour when acquiring new gear, which will just want to make you hate the game for making you grind all over again (even more so due to change of Mobility, Resilience, and Recovery being moved from subclass customization to gear stats from D1 to D2). Likewise, not sunsetting armour will just have people infuse all their old stuff and not care about using new armour.
It's a lose-lose situation for Bungie here. They will anger players or make the loot stale - unless they make more interesting gear to acquire. It doesn't have to be considerably better than previous gear before - but enough to warrant some people to grind towards something, like when Fatebringer was sought out for it's firefly and outlaw synergy. New weapons don't have to outclass the previous ones - they could simply provide another interesting style of play with a weapon that players want to get their hands on. Things like Breakneck come to mind as interesting and fun - which prompts some people to grind for it. Though, it's tough to make ideas for perks when the sandbox designers have fatigued minds. Criticize them all you want, but sometimes a new perspective and different style of creativity are needed to keep things fresh.
So, how about the community actually helps out with this? There are probably plenty of players sifting through the forums with ideas for guns crammed deep within their minds. Unleash your ideas here - and maybe someone like Cozmo will take a gander at a good idea and carry it over to the gunsmiths over at Bungie.
For example, here's an idea I got that's sort of inspired by Breakneck (apologies if this sort of weapon already exists, I haven't been well acquainted with Destiny 2 yet):
150 RPM scout rifle - Legendary
-insert scope/barrel perk here-
-insert magazine/round type here, preferably the gun has fast reload speed or big mag size-
Zen Moment OR Outlaw
Relentless Stream - Precision hits gradually increase the rate of fire of this weapon
Useful applications of this weapon: Being a 150 RPM scout, it naturally has higher damage than other types of scouts. After getting enough precision hits in a short period, this gun would be able to melt yellow bars and quickly annihilate red bars that are caught within its sights. You can spam headshots on a yellow bar or boss and then quickly unleash your built up 200 RPM high impact scout on a poor group of red bar enemies all the while you have good stability to help make your shot a laser, or you can instead headshot a few reds, use outlaw to reload a full mag, and then meltdown a major with your newfound high DPS. Boom, an entire horde of enemies annihilated quickly and efficiently.
Seems like an interesting weapon to grab, right? A good weapon to put as part of the rewards from a new raid.
Let us as a community come together and brainstorm ideas for weapons and armor that we would want. Let's keep our old gear - but get some cool new ones too!

26 RepliesThe Warmind perks are interesting. People just refuse to let go and move on. They spent lots of hours developing thin new interesting system and barely any of us use it....why? Because my old gear is good enough, why try anything else? Every gear based game retires gear anytime a level cap is increased. That's what keeps people grinding. We may hate this season but if the bunkers provided the only gear that was high enough light we would be grinding those bunkers.
