I pledge allegiance,
to the flag,
of the United States of America,
for which it stands
one nation
under God
indivisible
with Liberty and justice for all.
The phrase “god bless America” always seemed weirdly contradictory and unchristian to me. Why should we be asking him to bless the most powerful and rich country on earth? Surely the Christian thing to do would be to selflessly think of others and bless the poorest and most needy countries on earth? In fact surely it would be more Christian to think less about the divisive concept of earthly nations and more about unifying humanity as one? Ask god to bring all the people of earth together and to bless the poor and needy or something?
