Thoughts on current state of warlocks in pvp

Is it me or have warlocks become an endangered species in pvp? Why has it gotten to the point where playing warlock makes me feel like a liability, every match regardless of competitive or classic becoming hairpulling levels of frustration when you always lose melee fights because of speed and range, etc.. not calling out for nerfs but maybe some buffs or tweaks so that they could start to be fun again. (Dont touch the supers they're okay how they are imo) but base kit tweaks like melee. If we have the shortest range then at least let us have faster melees to compensate because it seems dumb to have both the lowest speed and range at the same time

  • I main a warlock. And yeah, they’re the least used class in pvp. The only thing that bothers me as a warlock main is the melee. It is slower than the other 2 classes. That being said, I prefer them over hunters and titans.

  • Just...no. Warlocks melee is better than hunters. Warlocks have better grenades than hunters. Warlocks have better supers than hunters. Warlocks have a super that they literally do not even have to aim with to kill people Titan is completely OP. Warlock is strong. Hunter melee and Grenades are shit, and have inferior supers.

    • They are fine. They have the best grenades in the game and healing rift is awesome, you just have to use it right. You just can't play them the same way as Titans or hunters. Titans and hunters you can play super aggressively. Warlocks the best way to play is passively in the back with long range weapons and supporting your allies. That's why you don't see them to much because every one just wants to rush rush rush all the time and always be a sweaty try hard.

    • Warlocks have the highest skill ceiling out of all the characters and it’s not even close. Really just because of blink but you have plenty of abilities that can help you outplay opponents

    • As a warlock main I’ve been having a blast with astrocyte verse. I’m able to blink shotgun again with high mobility, blink is disgusting in the right hands. Same with stormcaller (arc web is amazing). I like warlocks being under the radar currently, don’t have to worry about any nerfs...in the right hands with the right set up, warlocks are still up there.

      • Part of the problem is that they don't have much that sets them apart. Hunters nova bomb better. High jump doesn't require an exotic to be used effectively. Just an example. Doesn't help that they keep making exotics that do warlock supers. Black talon (dawnblade) new rocket launcher (nova bomb that's faster than slowva AND has the tracking orbs) riskrunner (stormtrance). I've played Warlock since The Dark Below and last month I started mainly playing my titan instead. My Warlock just doesn't have any appeal anymore. Don't let the crucible residents know you've observed this though. They'll tell you all about how warlocks are downright overpowered. Even though they represent like 1/5 of the crucible overall.

          • They lack a good neutral game. Outside a small few instances they are just out played by Hunters and Titans because they have strong neutral game play. Our only real movement is blink and even then it's got its limits. The top tree Dawnblade was supposed to give us dodge. Sadly its not a "dodge" its more like pulling a ballon to the left or right real quick. I would love an exotic that gave us blink to use that was similar to the Hunters dodge. Kinda like the Nova warp but not as severe?

          • Warlocks always win melee fights because of highest damage and knockback. 165 dmg on a melee is a lot. Also...ARC WEB...enough said.

My thoughts are if you see a OEM titan or dodgy boi hunter with overshield, run controverse hold mini novas. It is the best defensive cheese against other class cheeses. I dont use oem or bottom tree striker so when I play a warlock spamming mini nova with controverse hold I play like I'm playing against a oem titan cause that mini nova is so annoying lol

              • Jon Weisznewski wanted a gun-based e-sport so Warlocks we’re busted down from being the premier damage class in Destiny 1... to basically a support class in D2. Bungie has to keep trying to come up with new exotics to fix the damage.

                • Agreed, love playing Warlock, but seems they have weakest class abilities and the least resilience.

                • Queuing up as a warlock immediately puts you at a disadvantage, that's true. Especially when ALL your opposition is comprised of OEM wearing Titans and Wormhusk/Arc Battery wearing Hunters. But hang in there, guardian; maybe next season Bungie can give Warlocks an edge with the next set of artifact mods. Probably not, but one can dream.

                  • Out of my first 10 comp matches, I was the only Warlock in every lobby. And I see why. Titans and Hunters are easy mode compared to them. Between Titans having overpowered EVERYTHING, and Hunters being able to make themselves harder to kill just by having a seizure in their jump and roll buttons, Warlocks barely have anything that can compete with them, let alone catch them. I play PvP with all three classes and I can say for a fact: when I play Warlock, I have to think a LOT harder about what I'm going to do, to win a fight. Warlocks have so much stacked against them, you HAVE to use your wits just to survive. Hunters have burst mobility and (9 times out of 10) a shotgun or Erentil to blast you with after they cricket jump 50ft into the air. And Titans are Titans. I barely have to think or adjust my strategy, when I play Titan or Warlock. I stick to whatever I want to do, and it just works. But on my Warlock, I HAVE to adjust to every possible factor.

                  • Only real core changes I'd make PvP wise is fixing the melee speed and giving rift a faster animation. Not sure about anything else besides tweaking exotics.

                  • I actually run with getaway artist, bottom tree storm caller and max grenades. I almost always have a arc soul active and in close quarters they give a slight advantage. I can even hide behind cover and the arc soul clean up. With Shadowkeep you have quite a few build that are good in PVP for Warlocks so I have actually switched over to Warlocks this season because of this.

                    • Maybe try not getting into melee fights you know you can't win? Contraverse hold, and crown of tempests are decent in pvp rn

                      • Warlocks are not a class designed to fit into PvP well. This probably wasn't a deliberately design choice but was instead a result of design. Warlocks don't get a lot from winning 1v1 engagements and don't get a lot of strengths towards them. When I look at Warlock subclass trees, nothing there says "Wow, this would be really good in PvP". Titans, on the other hand, are the opposite for me. The very existence of shoulder charge is very good for 1v1s and is suicide against groups of adds. I agree with you and I don't really get why anybody would bring a Warlock into PvP unless they just really like helping their own team more than hurting the enemy team.
