Why would there be any speed runners? The general consensus in the modern gaming community is to patch out anything allowing speed runs.

I probably am the only one to explicitly state it. It has been implied numerous times. There is also an aversion to self-imposed challenge runs. Again, it's never explicitly stated, though implied.

I’ve never even seen anyone imply it. Most people I see are in full support of speedruns.

Not those who favor multiplayer shooters, both PvP and co-op. That is the most popular and prevalent genre.

But it’s not the only genre. It’d be much more accurate to say “the general consensus of the shooter crowd” rather than the gaming crowd as a whole.
