Shotguns are FAR more detrimental to Crucible than LH/NF

We all know Shotguns are a festering sickness in the Crucible, though there are ways to counter them - they’re far more of a problem in Crucible than LH and NG ever could’ve been. Being an average player, I’m Much more perturbed with being skill-lesly blasted by shotguns than any skilled hand cannon kill. IF shotguns were toned down people would be more apt to use a wider array of weapons (SMGs, Rifles, Bows, Scouts, etc) that I think would improve Crucible play in a way that would make LH/NF less widely used...any thoughts?     Shotguns aren't a problem...and they have never BEEN a problem in this game. Which is why nerfing them NEVER fixes the complaints about them. Not only are shotguns FINE. This game has some of the weakest shotguns of any FPS on the market. The reason why people feel they are a "problem" is because the game's primary weapons have always been RIDICULOUSLY underpowered compared to other shooters....and how fast players actually move. As I said During Destiny 1: [i]The problem isn't that you can stand on the pitchers mound and OHK me at the plate 20 yrds away. (real shotguns can kill you from even further away) . The problem is that you can start out in CENTER FIELD......run all the way into second-base....TELEPORT to the mound..... ...and OHK me before ANY of the game's primary weapons can manage to kill you. And if you're a titan-skater....then push that back into the outfield bleachers. [/i] [b]That's what's broken. [/b] Guardians move so fast relative to this game's weak primaries. (and because of terrible map designs) that someone with a shotgun and be on you into shotgun range so fast that your only option is to have your own shotgun equipped to counter it. Which of course just amplifies shotgun use. But Bungie is so hellbent on recreating Halo's gunplay and slower TTK, that they are blind to the problems its causing.

    • Other people have said this before, but I'll say it too Have you ever used a shotgun in another game? Destiny shotguns are ass compared to a lot of other games. It's the tiny, cramped maps that are the problem

      • Shotguns aren't a problem and they are in a perfect place right now. People say that shotgunning doesn't take any skill but it actually does. There is a difference between a good shotgunner and a bad one.

        • Stop running blind around corners and pay attention to your radar. I've rarely been killed by shotguns but I see so many people kamikaze-charge enemies and run around corners without thought.

          • I think shotguns are fine as is. I dont even use one because I dont tend to get that close to my enemy. I may change my thinking after the Luna's nerf. I do ok in the crucible, i got Luna's back in Season 4 and have helped 10 people get Luna's Howl in season 5 and 6. If you dont like to die by shotgun, i just back up or dont let them get close. Use the radar to your advantage.

          • Think this entire iron banner I've been killed maybe twice with shotgun seeing SMG pulse and hand cannon mostly never seen such few shottys

            • All the guns that would get a chance are primary weapons that lunas and NF directly compete with. They would still be the meta weapons.

            • I blame maps almost all are full of small,choke points that even a dumb player can figure out how to exploit.

              • The only reason why shotguns will always be strong in Destiny 2 is these maps. No matter how much range you take away from shotguns, they’ll dominate. 4v4 maps in 6v6 mode? And even so if we bring back 4v4 to qp, they’ll dominate. These maps are CQB heaven

                • I also think shotguns are a problem with the current primary ttk and movement speed but nerfing range won't really help and theyd be useless if they two tapped. I think they need a viable counter so buffing subs and sidearms body damage or stability and/or making all non ranged charged melees one hit kills would do enough to make that 2-8 meter range a dangerous place and allow variety to happen.

                • Tbh i feel like shotguns are used so much just because lunas ttk is faster than any fusion or sniper can handle up close.

                • Shotguns aren't the problem. The problem is small map design combined with the fact that shotgun counters are usually lackluster to trash tier. Autos, SMG's (except Recluse), sidearms, etc. They're all in a bad place.

                • Nope. Shotguns aren’t the problem. Fact that so many archetypes are basically crap is what the real PVP issue in this game is. You want other types to guns to be used instead of a shotgun. Why would a player do this when the majority of other guns lick pouch? Perhaps if scouts, fusions, SMGs, & sidearms we’re actually good in their respective ranges, providing fast TTK in their respective ranges there would be less reliance on shotguns. Asking for a shotgun nerf will drive what few players remain in this game away.

They don't have consistency or damage, they'd need less spread and more damage for me to even consider any sort of reduction. You have summoned me.

                • I will never understand why they went all in on shotguns when Forsaken came out. There is skill to using them but they definitely take far less skill than any multishot weapon. At least they gave then a slight nerf though.

                  Shotguns were already nerfed please dont nerf them again and start this trend like we did in d1 which eventually lead to everything being so weak that no land beyond and sidearms became the meta

                    ah shit, here we go again on a more serious note ,no, more nerfs are not what we need and no matter how much you nerf shoties they will still be over used because they can 1 shot and if you nerf them so hard that they cant even do that ,then why do they even exist? but if special/hevy ammo economy in pvp chnged closer to how it was at the ending of d1 it would make for a healthier crucible with less shotgun/fusion spammers and more gunfights and you could go as far as to even buff fussions and shotguns to compensate, i m sure the pve players will apreciate it too

                  • My Erentil begs to differ, with your stats I have no doubt you'll simply -blam!- about it if shotguns get another nerf. Given your second paragraph you want D2 vanilla, no in fact hell no as that was the worst this game has been and is still reeling from it. There's so many weapons( that aren't even special ) and methods that are great against shotgunners, not nerf a weapon that's been nerfed heavily throughout D1 & D2.
