I'm gonna quit my job

So, been at this job nearly a year now. My training wasn't focused on because the guy I got hired in with had some days he needed off, we still got moved at the same time though. I got on a shift with a guy who'd only been there a couple months longer than I had, who felt he had seniority over me and was a douche about it, he got moved to a different shift (by the time this happened I was the most experienced person on the shift, still am) I felt I knew the line I was on well enough, but I didn't know the other two lines very well (there are three and they're similar, but different enough that if you try a fix that works on one line you'll burn out every control board on the circuit). Because I was the most senior on the shift I had to learn the other lines pretty much on my own and there are things I'm NOT confident doing and thus I take longer than the other shifts. They also had supervisors come down to check out our numbers (but not the other shifts) every day. I get questioned every time we take longer than usual to do something, and when something gets screwed up, even if my guys had nothing to do with it, I get questioned. For example, a material was mixed in to a batch that it wasn't supposed to be in costing the company somewhere upwards of twenty grand. I was questioned about it, told them we had nothing to do with it and gave them a very strong reason we couldn't have been involved. I was questioned on this three more times. Since I started we have worked 12 hr shifts and are the only three lines in our plant that do so. Which given that we all worked 6-6 isn't that bad, they decided to switch to 8-8 (which everyone on these shifts hated) and the union voted it down (that was the Union's right at the time). When the union contract came up, they put it in that contract that our (the 12 shifts) hours would be changed to 8-8 the union passed the contract screwing us over. Now they are switching the shifts to 8hr shifts but after almost a full year of this crap fest, I'm all out of shits to give. So, I've contacted an old friend about getting hired in somewhere else. That's all I got, just massive sense of -blam!- you I'm done. I probably seem like a whiny little shit, but as I have no friends now (mainly owing to my inability to be awake during the day now, thus I don't get to go visit my old friends), I figured I'd talk to you folks. By the way, if you work in a factory, you have my utmost respect. This shit sucks. The work isn't even that hard, I just hate it here now. My hatred for this place is such that I don't even enjoy my food anymore, and I'm a fat -blam!-, food is one of the things in life I actually enjoy. Feel free to say whatever. Edit: I guess I was a little more jaded than I thought, I expected more criticism. These forums are nowhere near as toxic as some here would have us believe. Keep on keeping on folks, and thanks for the support.

  • No worries man. Leaving my job too. Understaffed at my old job, this new job found me. Hesitated to interview but figured what they hey. Wrote an outrageous number for what I want. Figuring theres no way theyll take it. Second interview and a week later they gave me an offer. Knocked 20k off my first offer and I refused. They asked if I'd take 10k lower then my offer and I said hell yeah. Because even 20k lower then my original ask was almost double my salary. Move on to better things bro. Congrats!!

  •
I noticed in the comments you wanted to consider the gaming industry. Just know, while this obviously requires some technical know-how, you don't actually need to know how to code; a good team will have people for that. You could work on design, statistics, artwork, hell even HR and Marketing are absolutely essential! I'm sure you know all this, i just always like to support people in turning their dreamd into goals :)
^Wyoming

    • Do interviews and find another job first before leaving your current one.

      • Took me 2, 1yr jobs, to find my 11 year job. They went bankrupt, started all over with a new company, and its been almost 26 years. Use every job to leverage the next. Eat up every bit of knowledge thats given out.

        •
Just recently got out of a manufacturing job after working there for 3 years, mostly on the night shift. Feels like I skipped over the past 3 years of my life. That line of work can be goddamn soul crushing. Good luck to you out there, dude. You'll find something better.
• Sell cars for a living while you figure out exactly what you want to do. Pretty lax schedule for the most part(look for a place with interchangeable weekends off). You get paid off commission naturally, but if I were to switch my earnings to hourly, its somewhere around $35 to $40 an hour. Just dont get stuck doing it, use it to fund what you really want to do. Sales is good money, but super stressful, especially once you have big bills or a family.

        • If you hate your job it’s a no brainer, you have to assess your life and find something you enjoy I had 5 jobs in two years until I realised I wanted to be my own boss.

        • I work 8 hour shifts but we rotate our hours every week. 7 days swing 2 days off. 7 days graveyard 2 days off. 7 days mornings 4 days off. Rinse and repeat.

              • It’s hard to deal bad cards you’ve been dealt. Luckily, you are not a slave to your situation. While your voice may be drowned out by the union, your actions through leaving might spark some sort of change. Find something that interests you, then work everyday to find pleasure in the small things.

                  • If you're not enjoying what you do, then maybe a career change might be a good thing. Though make sure you have another job lined up before you do, otherwise you could fall short on income if you jump the gun. And that would be more devastating than working at an annoying workplace. ヾ(=゚・゚=)ノ
