This is how Bungie made playing Destiny a chore.

Now this is coming from a D1 veteran. Playing Destiny has been my hobby for a few years. So it’s sad for me to say this but playing D2 has become a chore. It wasn’t always that way. In D1 I started playing on PS4 and after a year I also started playing on Xbox after Rise of Iron. When I started on Xbox I played through everything on one character then on the other two characters I leveled them up to 400 just playing the crucible. I could play what I wanted and still be leveling up. The milestones in D2 are a bad idea. I have to play 3 Gambit matches. I have to play three strikes. I have to play 5 crucible matches. I have to play the night fall. I have to do all the dreaming city stuff. See where I’m going. I have to do those things or I won’t level up. Leveling up is important because you need to be a high enough level to play the raid. What Black Armory did was expose this bad design. It was a very bad decision to block access to a dlc people paid for behind a level requirement to start. This is why the community is angry. Me included. We have to play old content for a couple of weeks to start this. Now I have to go do all those milestones to get high enough to play this dlc. That takes time. And I can’t spend that time leveling up by playing nothing but crucible or strikes. I got to do those milestones. This game has now become a chore instead of something fun. I already have a job. I was also looking forward to new crucible maps and new strikes but none of that in this dlc. Hey maybe I’ll get some new armor or weapons from the vendors. Nope. Only thing to do is chase some weapons and grind some more after grinding for three months to climb 220 points. If this is the future of Destiny then this has got me considering not playing Destiny anymore. That is the first time I ever thought that. Just thought I’d share this feedback with Bungie so they can understand why people are angry with this game and what they might consider changing in the future.

I disagree. Leveling up is not a chore. You dont have to do the weekly milestones, which you named (3 strikes, 5 pvp matches, 3 gambit matches) to level up. Leveling up is all about maximizing your playing time and engrams. Ex: you shouldnt pick up any engrams that you physically have to pick up until you are done with your others for the week. Those include the flashpoint, clan, and ikora engrams. The reason being those level up as you level up. Other tips: you should probably get dreaming city engrams first since they give you the highest boost (outside raids/prime engrams). Those will help boost you up faster/more than the other milestones. That boost will also make other drops higher. Also, decode prime engrams as soon as you can. They boost you more than any other engram in the game. And since they are automatically set to decode at a certain level when you pick it up, no need to hold on to it. Go decode it, and get that boost as soon as you can, so your other drops are boosted as well. I say that to say: you can play the game and level up any way you want, but that doesnt mean you will always be ready for the newest content. And that's the issue. People think they should be able to do new content, no matter the level they are at nor how they play to level up, and the game doesnt work like that. It never has. Another thing: you said you were looking forward to new pvp maps and strikes. Why? Bungie has stated time and time again when and what things were gonna be released for the new season, and none of that was in the first day to week. So, why were you upset cause you didnt pay attention to what they were saying?

          • 100% agree. I have access to limited new content that will require 2-3 weeks of leveling up aka jumping through the same hoops I have already done countless times while depending on RNG. That is bad game design. Would like to play the new stuff now. Like you said, I have to run some chores to get there.

          • Yes the games drops decent leveling supplies, i.e. Higher gear and guns, but it requires a crap ton of planetary materials and enhancement cores to infuse what you already have. Problem is that it's a grind to get those materials in and of its self. So I grind to upgrade my character so I can grind some more through the "good stuff". Each new release is a freaking grind fest.

          • Let me make sure im not misunderstanding i will have to do these grindy boring monotonous quests to unlock forges on multiple characters? Hah. I guess my titan wont be any of this end game expansion! Also...im bow grinding the Gofannon weapons. I have to say this is really absurdy boring game grind. Its essentially ally the same set of steps for each weapon. I love this community but i question any guardians standards if they think this content/end game is “good”. Its absolutely not

          • My friends and I played countless hours of Destiny 1. We felt like we could make progress in the game. But this RNG leveling system is NOT fun. It has become a 2nd job. I only have a limited amount of time each week and I want to relax when I play games, and play my way. This forces players to do “Milestones” in certain activities they may not enjoy and even then their “powerful rewards” give them 1 power light when the whole cap was raised 50. Casuals get screwed and it takes them ages to level up (and they can’t pkay new content) meanwhile Streamers and No-Lifers are leveled up in 3 days so it really doesn’t effect them and they think the system is great. SMH. Also my friends that played D1, they all quit, I’m done too. Just offering feedback so Devs know why I’m not logging in anymore and why friends aren’t either.

            • This is what finally prompted me to stop playing. It's a chore, not fun, a chore. I already have one job, video games are an escape from reality for me. Day one player, hanging up the ole Titan boots. Good luck Guardians.

            • For me it went from wanting to log thousands of hours of play time to having to, to keep up and earn the things I want only to be burned out by the time I get them done or sometimes before I even get there. I'm pretty close to hanging it up and I've been a pretty dedicated player. C'mon Gearbox, free me!

            • The D1 vanguard, crucible, and faction systems were much better than the current ones. If you’re a PvE player you could level up vanguard and a faction as much as you wanted. More of a PvP player? Cool level up your crucible and a faction. Either way you could always progress towards weapons, armor, and god rolls. Even if your rng was bad you could buy the stuff you wanted. In D2 factions are gone. Vanguard and crucible don’t have a full set of weapons. You can’t directly buy anything. It’s a step backwards on almost every level.

              • Another person complaining that they "can't" level up without completing milestones. Allow me to enlighten you, Prime engrams were instituted into the game to allow progression of players without forcing them to complete activities that may be outside their comfort zone. Every playlist has an associated powerful drop as well as some bounties that can assist in progression. So stick to your niche and you will level up. The issue is that you are looking for immediate satisfaction. You paid for content, and now you believe there should be immediate access to ENDGAME without having to play other activities to level up faster. Do you have any idea how fast your mindset could kill this game? Do you remember what a "content drought" is? Because that's exactly where your thought process will lead this game.

                • I'm sure a lot of community will agree and there's always this guy that says "it's a loot based game grinding is part of it." but it shouldn't feel like a chore aka grinding old content to play new content. If I had to grind new content for power I'd be less upset. Either way I'm enjoying Black Armory for what it is. Once you reach the correct power level you'll get new content weekly to play that won't require as much grinding. Or I would hope.

                  • Holy crap do I agree with this post. It is utter bullshit that you can't fully enjoy what you have paid for. I am fed up with it it requires too much damn time to play even the basic stuff like the forge. 10-15 levels higher shouldn't be as difficult as the forge is making it. They throw hordes of bullet sponges at you for what... Man destiny is a beautiful game but who in the backbus designing the leveling and progression and let's not even talk about the exotic economy. I don't care anymore I am full in bitching I have played this game faithfully since day one and can't do it anymore.

                    • I agree with all you said, but another big problem is the grind/game just isn't fun. The devs should go play some old Ratchet and Clank games, maybe that will inspire them to put some creativity into the weapons. If they copied half the gun qualities from that series it would be amazing. Except for a few exotics, the weapons in D2 are BORING. I actually wouldn't mind killing the same ads as much if it was fun.

                        • I, for one, enjoy this way of leveling up. You dont hit max level in a day and then bitch about having nothing to do... Now everyone bitches about... having stuff to do? This makes absolutely no sense. I LIKE having a slower progression, especially when you have a random chance to get a Prime Engram.

                          • I rolled my eyes the second I saw that the power level was jumping 50 levels with Black Armory, then 50 more levels with each of the next two annual pass releases. So here we go again, another 150 levels to grind. 95% of which comes from old content. Fighting ridiculous RNG every step of the way, praying for the slots you need and dreading all the inevitable redundant drops. Did anyone really want that? I'm actually completely fine with the whole content trickle strategy. But 50 more levels of pounding out the same old weeklies only to have half of your rewards drop in the worst possible slots.....not fun.
