The mod system is such a poorly executed concept.
Looking at this mod system and I'm just completely bewildered.

No reliable way of getting mods.
No reliable way of getting mods you want.
No reliable way of getting mod components.
It fails at every level

Its hard to call it a system in the first place, if you dont stack them you notice not much of a difference to begin with. So if you try to be creative with them your out of luck. Played a lot of Warframe,thats what you call a mod system,i know thats mostly what this game is about but still a good example of how a modding system can be implemented . You can setup your toon just the way you want to play with him,it would be cool if this was in Destiny at least in somekind of creative way. Bungie would never go as far, haven forbid we would start to play this game how we like to play it. This modding system is a prime example of the state this game is in, Bungie adds things in just to ad it in, they never expand on it in a creative way and for me it always looks like then they can always say its in the game and enjoy working your way around it. Its a strange way of implementing things , why not try to make it work proparly for a change, i just dont get it.

This, this all day long, so glad this post has been made. Need to have much more reliable way to get components and they should not cost 10 for 1 then give one for a dismantle. So silly.

Horizon had the same shitty mod system up until it's first update which was about 2 weeks. And now it's pretty spot on.

6 RepliesThe Taken Repurposing mod is OP in Shattered Throne. Stacking Super mods does make a noticeable difference. Stacking grenade mods...etc. Extended mag mod on Lunas is amazing. 13 makes a huge difference. Icarus grip kinda sucks.. Freehold or whatever free hand grip is meh I havent really had an issue with mod components. But then i never buy mods. I only bought 5 super mods once. They just drop from legendaries.

Break down the first blue shotgun. One in 9/10 gets you a mod. It’s not perfect but it’s better than nothing. The infusion and mod system is $h!t. You don’t even get the mod back if you add another on top of an old one? It’s bent as f*ck

Based on what you’ve said is seems your criticism isn’t the system itself but the economy and rewards surrounding it. I think most of your concerns could be fixed by adding mods to the loot pool with a slightly lower drop rate than legendary engrams. If they wanted to take it further maybe give individual mods specific grinds so people could go after the ones they want, the more coveted to mod the more difficult the grind but you could always still get the mod via rng or purchase from the gunsmith as well. Those are a few of the specific things I’d like to see put in place to add some intentionality to acquiring mods.

I couldn’t agree more and I’m happy to know others also feel this way. The only conclusion I can draw upon is that it’s a poorly executed time sink.

The only great mod was the one that allowed you to change the element type on your gun. I’m still so angry that Bungie removed it.
