Dear Bungie,
On behalf of the all the other deaf guardians out there, the raid is, if not impossible, extremely hard without some form of communication. VoG? I did it, Crota's End? Did it. But the Leviathan? I am either A, left with nobody to take me because of my hearing impairment or B, left with an impossible task. I know you want communication focused tasks but please, please think of the deaf community. Thank you for taking a time to read this. As I don't go on here a lot if you want to ask questions or talk to me my GT is kaseinoboruto.
Edit:
Wow! Thank you all for your support! To the people who say that Bungie shouldn't "have to cater to the hearing impaired" or that they can't make an all inclusive game, let me bring up some points. It's not hard at all to make a call out system for the raid... and they have a color blind fixer, why can't they just take an hour and add in call-outs?
Edit 2: Thank you to everyone with an actual intellectual opinion (: For the trolls, go back to 4Chan please. Another note, I understand money is an issue, always is. I am simply suggesting this as an interchangeable setting (like the color blindness) that for the raids would replace your emotes with text call-outs. Thank you.
Edit 3: Thank you all so much for the kindness, I can't go through all the replies so if you would like to play with me or message me I have Xbox, GT is kaseinoboruto
Edit 4: okay, I messed up, there's spaces -.- sorry Kasei No Boruto
Edit 5: Trolls- https://youtu.be/NY9UZI1OUMI
Edit 6: I just want to thank you all for the support on this issue, I did not think this would take off like it did (: hopefully Bungie starts to take notice of this, thank you all for bringing this into the light.
Edit 7: Great news! Thanks to Geek in Tinfoil and squad I completed Leviathan! Thank you guys so much for all the support
Edit 8: Hey guys, if you can go ahead and share this post with friends or others it would be greatly apreciated, just trying to spread awareness. Either Bungie hasn't seen it or they're just ignore it at this point.

Maybe.

I never even considered trying to do this deaf but holy oryx now that I think about it the raid seems impossible since everything requires communication. Oh I feels for you :/

Impossible. There are no females on the Internet

What would be your solution be? Just curious?

I use to take anyone through the D1 raids. If I actually did D2’s, I’d take you. It is not about voice or hearing. It is about being about to find a simple communication method. IE: point for up, dance for down, cry because we all died. Wish you the beat guardian.

3 RepliesI feel bad about my big tiddy joke earlier. I have sciatica so I can't even sit down for longer than an hour and enjoy any game.
-
1 ReplyThat's a great idea. Side note, we ran Crota, right when I came out, with a deaf and mute gentlemen and the guy blew our minds. He was always the last to die and even had the most kills sometimes. It was cool and I'll never forget it. He was really good.

If your on Xbox send me a friend request, we will help you get it done .

I'm on PS4 but I hope they can put something in so everyone can have a chance at the raid.

Everyone flipping out like you're asking them to take away the complexity from the raids. lmao. It should be relatively simple (given the team at bungie is competent) to design a callout system that lets other info like symbols and locations. The money issue should not take precedence over making the game as enjoyable to as many players as possible. Nothing that this does not include the pansies that want everything watered down for them because they're allergic to the word "challenge." I think it's pretty reasonable to ask for this kind of system (though it would take time to develop), and am frankly surprised this is the first time I've seen this issue brought up. I've seen quite a few deaf gamers and always thought about how hard it must be to do those kinds of activities. I even think I know a good way to implement this. For raids, you could simply map a button that, when you hover your crosshairs over an objective (say the symbol you see in Calus' eye in the throne room or the orbs in the Gauntlet, you could press the button and a text message pops up on the lower left side of the screen where text alerts usually appear. When you do it in the gauntlet, the message would state your gamer tag, the symbol you're at and the position of the orb (top, mid or bottom). When on Calus, it would, of course, just say the symbol that appears. May be a bit tricky to program, but not impossible.

1 ReplyYou do realize that a call out option gives away the raid mechanics, right?
-
10 Replieswhat frustrates me about forum is the guy at the top of the list is a troll, bad one at that, post is downvoted past 0, and is at the top of the replies. WTF bungie. sort this shit out.

Definitely stuff that needs looking at. Maybe the raids can also not rely as much on audio cues as to know what to do. Maybe if they integrated more visual cues then it could be easier to play with everyone. Bungie pls consider.
-
I know there is a deaf community in this game and some of the raid is completely impossible with those having impaired hearing. Yeah bungie should make less complex encounters so everyone can enjoy the raid. E.g. Crotas end or Vault of Glass. For PC it’s not much of an issue since you have a chat but for consoles maybe use discord chat as a fix for now until a more playable raid comes around for you.
-
It doesn’t bother me at all to take people into the raid who have communication issues. There is always a position in every encounter that can be flexible and doesn’t require call outs. Hell, I go into Crucible with my headphones on blaring music and have kickass matches, even though I can’t hear supers being activated or where gunfire is coming from. I find I’m more situationally aware when I can’t hear the game noise.
-
Thanks for posting this! I am mute, not deaf so it’s definitely not as bad, but I feel you when people don’t want to deal with you because of your impairments. Keep on trucking!

Now if this was a deaf guy... You know what would happen.

Edited by xlxWarPathxlx: 7/4/2018 11:40:24 PMLol Bungie is weak sauce I wouldn't expect a thing from them . Try using emotes like point or something . Or play with a friend who can text you on your phone with commands . And as for trolls justdo what the rest of the world does block ignore and forget because they aren't worth your time .
-
Bump for exposure. I wish you luck in making this change.
-
Edited by Verachi: 7/4/2018 11:23:33 PMI bet the buttons for the emotes could be used for communication. As a quick fix why don’t you message people what each emote means? For an example dogs= waiving, chalice=sitting down etc... Eventually it would be nice if they made emotes that said the symbol. Edit: Maybe I should have read the whole thread before commenting. The only issue with emotes right now is that they don’t pop up if you use it too many time in a row.

This is definitely something that needs to be looked at more. The only problem is that it's kind of hard to fix. They can't make raids less audio focused because that would somewhat ruin them for other players, but that would be the only way to fully fix it. Adding options to send messages would help, but that would be super inconvenient to try to use while playing, especially on console. It really sucks that people aren't willing to help you. I get so sick and tired of this community always requesting that everyone be perfect. Nobody ever gives people with a few difficulties a chance and it really pisses me off. Sorry not many people are willing to help. I know I would.

14 RepliesOk so before I start let me just say it sucks that raids are tougher for the hearing impaired and I am not saying you shouldn't be able to do it, but I am gonna explain why it is essentially impossible for them to add a call out system. We have 4 slots for emotes. Let me just use gauntlets in leviathan as an example cause I haven't done SOS and EOW has too many call outs. So in gauntlets we have runners and shooters. As a deaf person, they would be put on shooter. Now this works until you talk about adding callouts. A runner has to communicate to you the shooter a symbol and a side. There are 4 symbols, and three possible rows per symbol which comes out to a total of 12 callouts for 4 buttons. Impossible. Think about calus, dogs, and baths. Not to mention prestige, EOW(which is team and callout based), and SOS(much like EOW). It sucks but unfortunately the deaf community will just have to deal with the issues they are given in this circumstance. Not EVERYONE has to feel represented and included in every activity. If you really want it, you will find a way to get it done. The callouts are too complex in certain situations and too numerous in others to set them to a 4 button selection

Come on Bungie give the girl a little help here she cannot be the only deaf person playing Destiny. Some day the ADA will make you do it so do it now.
