Please post rational responses, as many people (including myself) don't understand why this was needed.
Simply put, new features usually address a known problem, or shortcoming, of a game's current design. What problem does locked loadouts solve? If you like to use the same loadout, what stopped you from just doing that in Destiny 1?
I can't help but think the fundamental design of the weapons, enemies, or both will have to change to address this. If every weapon has to work in every situation, how does this not mean everything has to be more generic?
Would a situational weapon like Touch of Malice even exist in Destiny 2? That's definitely not something you would want to carry all of a HM raid just to use once.

1 ReplyMuch rather have locked loadout than trickle.
-
Im split on this. For one, it will cut down on ppl holding up the strike or whatever from constantly being in their menu....on the other hand i hate it sooooo yeah
-
Pretty sure the locked loadout is a challenge, and not all encompassing.
-
Locked loadouts are confirmed by Luke Smith to not be in raids. Also, the locked loadouts are to make nightfalls a bit harder. Maybe they fix the problem with people constantly switching weapons in Trials, which is super annoying.
-
I have to wonder if the "space magic" that prevents you from changing weapons also prevents you from changing armor?
-
7 RepliesWhat's to stop you leaving the activity , when in orbit changing guns the rejoin the group once this is done?
-
It's to make it slightly more difficult. I personally don't like the idea, but I'm willing to give it a shot before I openly hate it.
-
2 Repliesyou are over thinking this massively. Locked load outs will be in SOME not all activities. Not raids as clarified by Bungie. The idea is that a fireteam as a whole will work out what each member will equip to tackle the content. Not every fireteam member having the same generic weapons . To use your Touch of Malice idea , not every fireteam member would carry the TOM necessarily. You would work it out to have an effective load out collectively. Ironically the Touch of malice is so situational it pretty much has been carried an entire raid to be used just at the end of the raid so is a poor example. Just because something isn't broken doesn't mean an improvement can't be introduced. As it is though the locked load outs are not going to be widespread throughout the game so no need to be concerned about it.

Ever heard of the term 'challenge'?
-
Maybe the endgame would become a bit more strategic with locked loadouts. However, most players will still use whatever they want even if it means that they'll enter an activity without the appropriate gear. I see the implementation of locked loadouts as a gimmick to add variety to activities just for the sake of having variety and I could imagine these questions being answered:" how do we make multiple versions of the same activity feel different ?" " how can this activity differ from this ?" it's kind of trivial really...
-
i don't have a strong opinion on it one way or the other, but I hated situational weapons like touch of malice mainly because i didn't like that raid and it was a bitch to get for something you rarely use. also for everyone saying, "just go to orbit and come back." I'm sure bungie has thought about that and there will probably be some mechanic where if one person goes to orbit everyone has to and once you do you have to start the activity all over again, no checkpoints.
-
So you realise its just going to be a modifier on a couple of activities? Like... its not even on raids... i don't understand the issue, its just going to make some activites play slightly differently from time to time and youre wrong, new things dont have to address any issues... read into it
-
2 RepliesStupid decision. You just go to orbit, change and then come back. It will be an annoyance. What is the exact reason Bungie gave for this?
-
2 RepliesLocked loadouts exist because the idiot that thought we needed a usless second primary weapon had another BRIGHT idea...... then the idiot in charge funneled the stupid idea to a complete moron who then requested permision from the poo slinging monkey that runs the dept..... and there you have it
-
I think the goal was to make it so people would have to play roles (add clearing, relic runner, main boss dps) Whether they came about it properly is questionable but I'm not against that line of thought.

Edited by THE CHEESE SHOP: 8/23/2017 11:49:04 AMThe only problem it solves for me is the daily question I ask myself, "what should I wear today?

Is this actually a thing?

Money is good, release updated video game war with no bullets or guns. They buy it. Laugh all the way to the bank! Questions?

This locked loadout thing, is it a modifier or something? I've played games where you couldn't change a weapon in mid mission, never bothered me before. I usually have my favorite weapons on me anyways.
-
so far its pretty much just for nightfalls and trials, in order to add an element of preparedness or whatever; its top tier sheet so you should already know what your getting yourself into, so coming prepared is challenge #1. not really meant to fix anything, just add a challenge.
-
Was it not just done to make the NF harder?
-
Who said a game mechanic was ever meant to solve a problem?
-
Adds a new dynamic. Makes you think harder, having a plan of attack. Giving weapons more meaning. For people who run activities regularly this will add a new dimension of difficulty. Forza let you pick one car per online championship, but with different activities. So I fine runed a BRZ that works great in S1 class.

2 RepliesI totally applaud all the hours Bungie programmers spent on this game and I wish it the best too.. But I have to get this. Off my chest.. Is only an opinion this doesn't include. Pvp since it's a. Whole different thing Apples and oranges .. Pvp.. Pve For all the kids and when I say kids I'm including all the 4 to the 100 year olds. Who have to complain about the games difficulty(which is nonexistent) to stop making this game so easy that it's boring g to play.. Its so sad how much Destiny has become a shell of its former self. All the nerfs kids cry about because they don't want a learning curve no they want everything so easy and bungie not caring to see how this makes their Game ... which should be difficult to start of... look like a bullet spunge Simulation because no they can't add tactics our kids will cry oh no we Can't add complicated boss battles cause Kids Will leave Well let Them leave And Attract A Fan base worthy of the Name bungie. Nowadays Destiny is a joke amongst many people for how easy it is and how that ease leads to such 6hour story mode campaign. Making it a joke. Don't get me. Wrong if you hadn't noticed I like. Nay love use to love this game waiting for its release was much wanted but as the years passed and the nerfs And the false pretense of bungie has dried a lot of that desire. You want. Destiny to be what it can be and should be then bungie needs to deliver a real game and not A beta game. With few. Nerfs (only truly. Needed ones) and changes but Its difficult meter should be largely increased. So what if people cry and complain how hard it is. Stop making a challenging game poppycock to the point of it being a ridicule. Even telling people you play destiny feels sad because even call of duty had(had) a great gaming model until they started to listening to corporate heads thinking they know what kids wasn't. Instead of realizing only money on their minds. Well a good game delivers on its promise and a 6 hour stry campaign isn't just. Sad is laughable. Bungie should have learned from all its new rebirth pains since losing all their former team and failing to deliver. This is their last chance.. Bungie have reservation.. have guts.. and have that honor to be called bungie again and remind people. That bungie isn't just Jason statem but a brand to keep and worthy to Deliver an actual triple A game. One That can go down the history of games. So bungie stop. Settling in giving kids what they want .. deliver on the experience.. people should have and feel fulfilled after finishing a tough strike or even harder nightfall.. That's what makes games memorable the experience not Which gun you used to kill a boss but the actual experience of feeling overwhelmed by the game which is challenging you to step up and think of how to overcome. Sadly history will tell and all we can do is wait. So bungie please don't settle.. Strive to make history.

I can see locked load outs and "locked out" weapons in pvp to eliminate senseless nerfs that affect pve. Any type of locked load out for pve would be senseless.
