Raids and multiplayer

Quite often I see posts in communities asking for players in their fire teams. But when you read it suggests "must know what to do"? How are people meant to learn if no one is prepared to teach? I'm also sure the people posting these requests and statements weren't familiar with how to do it when they picked up the controller and installed the game.

  • I sherpa WotM as much as I can. I love showing people aksis CM and it always reminds me of the first time I did it. Love doing that raid. But you must understand that some people just don't have time to waste to sherpa or "be patient". There are some helpful sherpas out there

    • It's because the person who posted is pressed for time and wants a fast run. So he will say "Must know" or "fast run" Teams with a lot of time and just want a chill team will say "chill team". Did you really not know what these mean?

Why on earth should someone else's procrastination and laziness be another persons problem. I know that sounds mean and I'm happy to carry someone through most content. But, comeeeeee on, help yourself people geez!

        • I've seen so many posts asking for people to do Crota or Aksis etc and it's actually off-putting when all I see is "know what to do or get kicked".. like many of you have said, they started doing raids without any help or carries. But as someone who's tried Kings Fall before in a fireteam, they just left me behind considering they genuinely said they'd help me through it! I'm starting to give up on trying completing the quests so I can do more on the game.

          • Just make your own post and explain your situation. I've played since launch but never really raided due to time constraints and not many online friends. I'm trying to get through all the raids before D2 and I haven't had a bad group yet. I just post that I have not ran the Raid before and looking for patient people or help. So far I have made it through Crota(full Raid set), got to aksis, and defeated Warpriest. The raids can take a long time doing it this way but you really get to learn them and are a lot of fun. I wished started raiding sooner.

            • Its because these raids were out for a while, so unless you just started, you should know how to do them

Frankly there is a lot of information on the raids now. I am no expert but I have gotten 178 Raid completions done. Here are some tips that may help you and it's what I did before I began raiding. <OnSoapBox> 1) Do your homework. Watch a Raid video or two by average gamers (not the kill Crota in 1 sword or Askis dead in 1 phase etc. ones). Read a description or two of the Raid mechanics and suggested loadouts (weapons and armor) for them. Then your not completely blind to how the raid works and what to expect. 2) Bring the right stuff. If you did your homework step, you won't show up with an unleveled up hand cannon, a shotgun and a Sword as your best weapons to a Crota Raid for example. You bring appropriate weapons (each Raid is somewhat different or has different phases, so if your unsure asks someone in the raid) and have all your Gear leveled up too. Almost every raid needs a longer range primary, a sniper and ranged Heavy at a minimum. Make sure you have at least 20 heavy and special ammo synths on your character and preferably more in the vault ready to be transferred if needed. 3) Learn to walk before running. Do the raid on normal BEFORE you even try doing it on Hard or Challenge modes. People doing hard or challenge mode are far less likely to carry people than on normal, however some Raids (like Crota) are more forgiving than others. Many people are now bored with the game and are likely to offer to Sherpa people through on normal. Also, don't LIE in your LFG post about having done the raid before. They can look your gamer tag up in an instant and you will get booted. If your honest and have done your homework and have okay gear, they are more likely to take you with them. 4) Listen more than you speak. If the Raid leader or Sherpa is talking don't interrupt until they are done. Secondly listen to what they are saying on how to do stuff and what loadout to use. If your not sure what your doing ask questions after they have explained things. 5) Don't waste peoples time. It is not acceptable to suddenly say "I have to eat supper" and disappear for 30+ minutes or "I need to go to the store" or "My weed dealer and I need to smoke 3 bowls now" or whatever time wasting excuse. Allow sufficient time to get the raid done without interruption, realizing that because you have not done it before, your going to make mistakes. Expecting the Raid to run perfectly and take 20 minutes to complete is unrealistic. 6) Communication is Key. One of the biggest issues is not communicating meaningfully to your team mates. Don't be babbling about extraneous stuff like what you want for supper etc. when your actively doing a section of the raid, it's disruptive. Secondly, being a silent lump does nothing for the team either. Depending on the raid, you may need to call things out, such as Jumping on Platform 2, I'm Torn, Slammed Askis, Slammed Plate, I'm on Venus or Damage phase. etc., make sure you do this. Lastly, if your assigned a task and you could not get it done, tell someone and ask for help. A classic example is when I was doing Oryx as a Hunter and up on a Plate. In hard mode plate people have to kill the orb eating knights. The knight I was to kill never appeared and I got killed on a platform by the ship while waiting for it to appear, because the guy across from me killed mine and his, but never said anything. Soon afterwards, I missed a head shot on my knight and had to get off the plate early (had a very fast Relic Runner). I immediately called it out that we had a crippled Orb knight on the loose in the back and one of the Titans in the middle killed it as I ran to the middle. No shame in failing or being over run, but there is if you can't communicate this information to your team so they can react to it before it becomes an issue leading to a fail. </OffSoapBox> Best of Luck.

                  • You Tube. I never noticed it in the title until now. You (pronoun) are supposed to tube (verb) whatever it is you need to learn. I really don't get why people don't watch guide videos when it's so simple to do. Sure, you're not gonna have the mechanics nailed down like someone who did it 100 times, but it sure does give you an idea of what you should do.

                  • People that need to learn COULD do what we all did. We built a team on day one and did the raid. We put the time in to learning it. No one carried or taught us, we had to spend the hours to beat it. Sometimes newer players get help, sometimes, they need to help themselves. If a new player can't find a team to teach them they should build a team of noobs, watch a video and go practice on normal.

                    • I had a kid show up to Oryx using Hawkmoon and a shotgun because that was his highest level weapons. I'm not going to try and teach someone the mechanics if they don't even have the proper weaponry.

                      • By doing the same ad the players you are complaining about. Doing the raid on normal until you know the mechanics. Doing the raid on hard to further learn what to do when. Doing the 390 raid when you have experience. No other raider OWES you anything. A little self help goes a long way. Have fun and may RNG be forever in your favor.

                        • I have no problem whatsoever helping people learn the raid or some aspect of the game. But a lot of times I don't have the time to sit there and do it and would rather just get through the raid. Which is why a lot of times anymore I just specifically run them with my group. Granted some people put that in their games because they don't like the headache of dealing with someone that doesn't know the mechanics or having someone that's incapable of learning.

Id love to Sherpa. If I had the time, skill and experience and the gosh dang hezen gloves. Edit: also, you gotta try normal first. Don't go piling into hard mode. As well as watch datto!! Look video guides. Then you will know what to do. If your gonna raid, you gotta put in time to actually learn it. Learning by doing does not work in this situation. Watch a video several times. Go over it several times. Make sure you know what's going on at all times. That's what people don't like. If someone joins in expecting a carry, a free pass. Or even a long explanation. Well don't. Just put effort into learning and memorizing it first. Had someone in kings fall join in expecting for us to explain it to him On 390 hard mode. Challenge. And kings fall of all raids. He had made no effort. He looked at Oryx and said "ok guys we gotta take down the warpriest". You can also search parameters as noobs allowed. Or you can make a post saying guide needed.

                                • For me it depends on my time constraints. I Sherpa raids pretty often. But sometimes o don't have the time to. It really depends on the day.

I have no idea what my King's Fall team leader used to post. Probably some minimum light level requirement. We typically needed one or two randoms to fill out the team. And sometimes we'd get someone who really didn't know what to do. We had no problem with that. Many times, our team leader would patiently take a random through the ship jumping puzzle, or the transept, jump by painful jump, while the rest of us danced, or sniped at each other or sang. Sometimes a second person would trail to revive. It was only a problem if someone was lying- either about knowing how to do something, or that they had done something (insisting they had sniped their knight when we had three witnesses to the otherwise).

                                  • I watched videos and read guides on the way each encounter is done, (these are out the same day the raid is out). Then I ran the raids on normal until I leveled enough to do the hard raid which I then ran until challenge mode came out. This is a lot of time I and many other people have put into raids. Why should we spend even more time teaching people who want to skip the entire process and stroll into challenge mode?
