~The map shines to somewhere in the mountains, around the land~
-
Wait, this shows where people are? Where am I? *Mortar stares at the map without blinking*
-
~The map quivers. It appears to only show people in its realm~
-
Damn. Well, I tried. *Mortar puts down the map*
-
~The area lights up a bit, however. Specifically where Ornstein and Smough are shown to be~
-
*Mortar ignored it* Nope, not gonna get into it
-
~The lights dissipate, and it finally goes back to normal~
-
Damn my morals... *Mortar opens a portal to where Orn and Smough are*
-
~You enter some sort of stone temple. All around you are statues of dragons. As you walk outside, it is pouring down rain. You appear to be several miles up, as you can't even see what's below you~
-
That's weird
-
~There is no sign of Ornstein or Smough in the area~
-
Wait, why would it bring me here if they aren't. *Mortar begins calling for them* Hope this isn't another vision thing
-
~No response. As you move to higher ground in the area, you notice what it really is. An old, abandoned stone city of some sort. Statues of a god are almost everywhere. You notice that they look familiar... As you stare at one of them, you hear a roar, and turn to see a massive wyvern land down in front of you. It doesn't attack~
-
Woah, boy, What...? Why is there a wyvern in front of me...?
-
~It makes a somewhat friendly noise, and flies up. It picks you up and carries you to the top of the abandoned city. As you reach the top, you begin to see what looks like an old courtyard. Standing in the middle, Ornstein is speaking to... The Nameless King. The Wyvern drops you into the courtyard. Both warriors stop and look at you~ Mortar? Is that actually you?!
-
No, it's Janet Jackson, Of course it's actually me!
-
Who the h-Oh. Nice to hear. I've come here to train with my master. He's...well, friendly now. Yes. I am. And...Mortar? May we speak for a moment? Ornstein, continue your training, ~A knight appears from the ground, and Ornstein begins combating it. The Nameless King beckons you to his side~
-
*Mortar hesitates a moment, then comes over* Before I say anything, I want you to know about something I saw.
-
Of course.
-
Well... not long ago, I saw this map, and the map showed figures, seemingly waking up in it, and seemingly readying for something. There was this one big dude, name sounded like "yarn"
-
Yes...So it has begun. The end of the cycle, I'm afraid. The Undead are rising again, along with the Lords of Cinder, ancient entities connected to the First Flame, the reason why the land isn't engulfed in darkness. As for the one you spoke of, he is Yhorm. A giant that sacrificed himself to the Flame, and returned to his kingdom to see not people, but charred corpses. By keeping the dark at bay, and lighting the First Flame once again, Yhorm released something out of his control that would ravage his land. Ironic, really...
-
Yea, it is. But what is the "cycle"? You mentioned the undead rising, but what kept them at bay?
-
The cycle is a process that has gone on for hundreds of years. An Undead's sole duty in its life is to reignite the First Flame, so that the dark can be pushed back. This time... I'm afraid that that won't happen.
-
*Mortar sighs* Well, how do we stop it?
-
That is why I must speak to you. Ornstein is an Undead, and believes that his duty is to save the land once more, by igniting the flame... ~As you look on, Ornstein parries and stabs the other knight~ But there is a problem. If this land wishes to live on... Ornstein must not ignite the First Flame. If he does, he would absorb the souls of all those before him, and burn this place to ashes.
