Halo 3 has the Best Story?
There is nothing anywhere near that quality in Halo 4/5.

3 RepliesHalo 4, Halo 2, and to a lesser degree, CE, had fantastic Campaigns. Halo 3 relied too much on certain setpieces and gameplay than a good plot: the pacing was bad, plot holes were more numerous in it than in any other Halo, and the fact that the generally interesting villains from Halo 2 (Truth and the Gravemind) became complete cardboard cutouts of generic bad guys. Not to mention the infamous attempt-to-sound-badass-but-sounds-stupid "Where should they go m'am?" "To war." Halo 5, while generally being much better in terms of pacing and plotholes, suffered again from an over-reliance on gameplay and lore-catering that even I, a Halo Nerd, disliked. I mean, the ending just isn't satisfying, and while the marketing was somewhat false with regards to the Campaign, it didn't excuse the complete lack of actual relevance to the Guardians, which are basically glorified teleporters for the purpose of Halo 5. The villains were absolute trash. They killed off the most well-developed villain ever, Jul M'Dama, almost immediately, and Cortana's whole Created bullshit is literally the first thing we expected to happen. While I enjoyed playing both Campaigns, Halo 2 and 4 are leagues ahead, with CE only losing to its copious amounts of expositional dialogue.

I haven't played 3 yet. I plan too. I really love the story of 2 so far. I have a soft spot for halo 4. It was my first. It isn't amazing, but I like it.

I liked 2 more, but 3 was also good. Short, but good. I thought Reach was a good game, but the campaign was eh. It was decent, but eh.

I think it had the best campaign but story-wise I would go with halo 2.

12 RepliesI personally prefer 2's story, followed by (and I'll be branded a heretic for this) 5. And honestly if Halo 2's story didn't have the Srbiter as a protagonist it'd be behind 5. Before you try and murder me for my opinion, let me explain! 1. I never liked Chief. 2. Or Cortana. 3. I do like Osiris. Locke being my personal favorite. [spoiler]4. Cortana makes a good villain.[/spoiler] 5. This is the most important point; I loved the Warden Eternal. The best way to make someone love the story you're writing is to make a good villain. The Warden was similar to the Didact, but for some reason he was just cooler. Perhaps the fact that he was both inferior, and superior to his master? I dunno, but I loved the Warden, and his master, and that made it my favorite.

God, no. 3's story was so weak. Terrible flow, no character development, no sense of sacrifice, terrible dialogue, etc.

Halo 3 has some fun missions (by some I mean 30% of the missions), but its story is weak compared to other Halos. Honestly, the only campaigns blatantly worse than Halo 3 are those of Reach and Halo 5. H2 and ODST just blow it out of the water.

I actually really liked Halo 4s story A little bit of characterization goes a long way with me CE, 2, and ODST are also great 3 and 5 were pretty meh overall I dislike Reach.

Because that is when Halo started to have actual story, more so I mean. CE was pretty vague, 2 ramped it up. 3 was where it took off. Bungie seems to have this problem. With new IPs

The story that had the marketing tagline of "Finish the Fight" (which was later changed to "Believe", and the ad that accompanied it was pure bullshit), yet it turns out the fight wasn't really finished? The story that makes the Gravemind/Flood look like a complete moron? The story that features glorious lines of dialogue such as, "To war"? That best story?

2 RepliesBahaha. There was more emotion in H4's ending than in 99% of H3. Halo 3's real story didn't even get going until halfway in. Nobody cared about the invasion of Earth, it was so poorly done.

I'd say Halo 2 and Halo 4 has the best story. But Halo 3 probably had the best Campaign in terms of gameplay, alongside Halo 2.
