Unlock the secrets of ODST (Glyph, canon and Egg hunting!) Renewed...

UPDATE: All traffic should be redirected to the links located at the bottom. I have stopped most work on this since others are doing a much better job. Links at the bottom. However, I will keep the information unchanged as it is a good starting point for anyone interested. Thank you, and good luck! First of all, watch this video... Might I suggest disabling its audio. ____________________________________________________________ This is a refreshed and revised version of the thread that was maintained by SeasonedVeterans. The reason this has been done is because too many people were getting stuck on the old title, and the idea of swords. Also now we have an organised and revised version of everything found. _____________________________________________________________ The following will be broken down into sections starting with a Table of Contents that will use the Ctrl+F feature of windows computers as a means to navigate through the text.
Table of Contents S.1 Opening Statement S.2 Goal of the Project S.3 Mystery of the Glyphs -S.3a What we know so far -S.3b Recording of the different Glyphs and their locations S.4 Dig Site Lamps S.5 An ODST Stonehenge S.6 Audio Logs S.7 Engineer Habits S.8 Work To Do -S.8a Glyph Documentation -S.8b Glyph Research -S.8c Lamp Light Testers/Explorers -S.8d Engineer Tracking -S.8e VISR Exploration -S.8f Free Cam Exploration -S.8g On Foot Exploration -S.8h Other S.9 Mapped Points of Interest S.10 Resources -S.10a Getting out of: Video tutorials S.11 People working towards the same goal S.12 Top Contributors
S.1 Opening Statement Any and all information may be relevant, and it is up to you to decide if it can help in anyway. I encourage all trying to help to refrain from multiple posts about different ideas discoveries etc. I obviously realise that things are learned at different times, but it makes it easier for me and others to keep track of everything if it is all together in one place. Try to be neat as well, no need for confusion on misused, forgotten or misspelled words. In the infancy stages of our findings there will be lots of field work to do. It will eventually slow down. So in conclusion help is greatly appreciated and we (as in the people working towards this goal) are asking help from you the reader to do some researching, field work, and brain storming. You can pick one or contribute in all of the above, after doing so post your results here and let us and yourself run with the ideas! Arguments for and against this are all welcome as both can be constructive. Refrain from flaming and trolling and simply making fun of other people. S.2 Goal of the Project The Bungie community has come to the conclusion that it is very possible that Bungie has created multiple Easter Eggs throughout the whole that is ODST. We have many clues towards these things including information from Bungie regarding secrets, canon to the story, and Easter Eggs. (Looking for more confirmation.[That's UK's OXM readers!]) Following the idea that there is a possibility of unlocking these different bits of information, we are taking it upon ourselves to look for multiple clues and leads to unlocking the secrets that are within the game! Whether it be simple Easter Eggs or more story into the Forerunners, on top of all of this we will have an extensive and detailed documentation of all the recordings logged along the way. S.3 Mystery of the Glyphs No doubt most of everyone has noticed the strange Glyphs that are around New Mombasa, and I wouldn't doubt that you yourself have at least simply wondered what they were all about. That is what this section is dedicated to in hopes of finding out. S.3a What we know so far We know that the ones responsible for the mysterious glyphs, or at least some of them, are the Engineers. They use these glyphs as a form of communication it seems to tell stories, the Y shapes seem to represent Forerunner ships. Currently we do not know of what the Glyphs depict, but it can be seen that these Glyphs are different looking than our typical Covenant Glyphs. Whether they mean different, similar or the same things is, so far, unknown. The large Glyphs consisting of three sections separated by a Y shaped line, can have a few different builds: They can consist of no glyphs. They can consist of these new glyphs we will dub "Engineer Glyphs." They can consist of S.I. faces, or S.I. Glyphs. A Glyph can contain up to all three of these things at any given time. There is never more than one Glyph in any of the three sections of the triad. S.3b Recording of the different Glyphs and their locations Here is where we will record all the different known Glyph types, and their appropriate Sectors. You can save the following Sector Map to use as a guide when locating and recording these Glyphs. Print it off and open it up in MS Paint, and add points like G1, G2, G3 etc. with an appropriately labelled photo of the Glyph. If the Glyph is somewhat hidden, a brief tutorial on how to find it will be necessary. I personally believe this will be the most in depth and time consuming field work and will be the most extensive work. Unique Glyph Builds: The different Glyph builds will be located in here, it will document all the different variations (At the moment this is briefly empty) Sector Map (pertaining to Glyphs) This Sector Map will be a guide to all the different Glyph locations and should eventually allow us to figure out which Glyphs disappear and where. (At the moment this is briefly empty) If requested I can post an exemplary way of labelling, recording, and documenting. You can always do your best since I will assimilate all the findings for consistency. S.4 Dig Site Lamps Dig site lamps (picture please?) are simply those lights that extend up when something approaches them, signifying that they are turning on when needed. It is unknown if these lights have any point or meaning, or are purely for aesthetic purposes. The reason for them possibly being "Dig Site" lamps is because where they have been found in Halo 3 is in underground dug out parts of the map. If they are in fact "Dig site lamps" then what exactly are they digging for? It's known that the Ark Portal isn't directly under the city, but between it and the town of Voi. Could it be possible that more is buried on our planet? Or is it simply a part of the Portal they are uncovering. Either way, it helps develop the canon of Halo for the community, and help us to realise the reason for such an excavation to be overseen personally by the Prophet of Truth. S.5 An ODST Stonehenge It's obvious that these areas interest us, they are very different than the rest of the war torn city of New Mombasa. Upon entering you feel a sort of, post-war peacefulness. A Stonehenge like structure sits in the center of a room; the room contains dead Elites and Engineers that putter about. These rooms are usually hot beds for Glyph activities. It has been reported that upon standing in the center of a Stonehenge, different music has played that had not been heard before. Confirmation in this area would help, and any recording of it would aid in figuring out any significance in the music. What exactly are they for? It is unknown at this point, but it definitely would seem like something is there. Perhaps the Engineers have set up a sort of shrine of their own, perhaps not, but only explored theories will produce answers. The answers will also most likely produce further questioning. S.6 Audio Logs It is uncertain if there is more to be learned from the Audio Logs then just that of a story of a girl. Whether it's learning more of this girl, and/or her family is uncertain, but it's quite possible that there could be more to this. Credit to VirtualCtor for bringing attention to the Audio Log Transcripts located on the Halo Wiki. Read this at your own pace community and see if anything particular stands out. Remember we have a cop in the game that has a connection to these people! S.7 Engineer Habits With ODST came the introduction of Engineers. The Engineer is a timid creature that flys about doing more of the Covenants mundance tasks. They are incredibly advanced and have the ability to fix, so far, everything. It's no doubt that you've seen the "flying bombs" that the Brutes have conscripted. It appears that they may have more of a significance then it would appear, in regard to the whole shroud covering ODST. What their significance is has yet to be realised. It has been confirmed that the Engineers flee at the arming of Snipers. It is uncertain but assumed that only the Snipers make them flee, it's possible that other power weapons do as well. When visiting Stonehenge it seems that Engineers may react when standing in the center of the Stonehenge, and that a new song has been heard to play. [Edited on 09.12.2010 5:53 PM PDT]

 •
Posted by: mantief i was playing the cmapgian one time, and i heard one of the brutes say "there he is, quickly set the charges!". ther two brutes and when i look around, i saw the brutes doing something to the squid ( or the enginneer as you may refer to it) and while battling, i notice that it makes the coveneat shields last longer. when i killedf the squid it exploded. so probay the squid it makes the shileds last longer and it has charges on it so if it dosemnt do its job it will be deanated by the brutes or the soldiers on the ground.
I'm pretty sure the engineers have explosions on them, if to boost the explosion they already make, or to help promote it. Or maybe that is how they explode, but I don't think so. I think this because it says on one of the audio log that they were helping another take an explosive off, and ended up exploding themselves. I think they can explode by themselves, but I think that some also have charges on them so it can be detonated from a safe distance. They do have some power to boost shields of allies near though.

 • Good theory, it may just turn out to be true. I've been doing some rummaging on the online forums and I've come up with another thing that may (or may not) be a clue to solving the whole -blam- mystery. Do the words 'Keep it clean' ring a bell? Somehow those words seem to keep coming up. In fact I believe that one of the Bungie employees who created a Bungie.net profile in the name of 'Superintendent', used to keep using those words to respond to posts! Maybe we should be keeping it clean a.k.a. looking in dumpsters/garbage trucks for a clue?

 • Anyone else curious to notice the Forerunner ship is actually an upside down Y shape? Well a sort of three demensional Y anyway. The Alskon symbol is also an upside down Y. Hmmm I am thinking the Forerunners created Engineers and as such that is why the Engineers use the Y symbol so much as it may very well be part of a Forerunner code or language. As for Alskon I have little doubt that they are working with Engineers to create new technologies. Hence the similar symbol. Also if Engineers were created by the Forerunners then they would know the truth of how humans fit into the scheme of things. Hence why they are helping the humans so much. The Brutes want to enslave the Engineers but with humans the Engineers can get back to their original job of researching and fixing things. I am not entirely sure how this fits into the greater story but it all just seems to fit together if you think about it. If nothing else Bungie has created an interesting spin on the whole Foreunner human relationship. [Edited on 01.01.2010 7:56 PM PST]

 •
Posted by: xXGuydoXx
Posted by: Munchiesmunchie So I was playing through Mombasa Streets and found this area, *NOT STONEHENGE* with just a lit circle, grassy area around it, and two engineers floating around. Couldn't kill them. No elites, but there were a bunch of glyphs
Where was it? Sorry, I haven't played in quite some time. My memory of the city is a bit rusty.
There are actually three areas like that one being the so called stonehenge area another with just a grassy clearing. The second one has a structure sort of like a miniture stongehenge but not really a stonehenge it has some phones and a water fountian in the middle of it. There are really strange symbols on the walls (engineer stuff) with one very large circle at one end. You can kill the engineers by overchaged plasma shots. The third area has a crashed ODST drop pod in the centre. I haven't noticed any engineers or symbols in that area. Though there were a few grunts at one point. [Edited on 01.01.2010 7:55 PM PST]

 • From seven races to six. Grunts(1) Jackals (2) Hunters (3) Elites (4) Prophets (5) Brutes (6) Drones (7) Seven Races. The Elites are cast out. Now there are only six races. Thus my theory of why six is appearing instead of seven.

 • iv just been playing odst and realised something. in sector 8 there is a room with 2 engineers and a sniper jackel on a ledge. in the middle theres a mezzanine with some phones and water fountains (were you collect an audio log). over to the left theres a large O glyph with 6 Y glyphs on the left hand side with 2 more Y glyphs further of to the right and this got me thinking. in audio log circle 6 arc 2,3 sadies dad is watching 6 engineers free a 7th from its bomb, now i believe thats what the 6 Y glyphs next to the large O glyph represent. i think the large O glyph represents the freed engineer who then merged with the super to bring vigil to life. my theory for this is the O symbol is excactly the same as the one on the supers data core where rookie and dare meet virgil (engineer) in the data hive mission.i think the other 2 Y glyphs mean the other 2 engineer in the room. now as for the Y glyphs we see around new mombassa they are always near dead elites, i think thats the engineers way of telling us that they were on our side, which would also explain the sad super glyph in squidhenge near dead elites. let me know what you think. i know that in oxm uk there is an article were joe staten states that "the Y glyphs represent forerunner ships etc" but i think this could be red herring to throw us off, think about it, how hard was the iwhbyd skull in h3 bungie had to pretty much tell us how to get it. besides, engineers could be a forerunner construct for all we know. • a few things about the last level... sadies dad (shes the girl in the logs) was killed when the lab was flooded with argon, by the corrupt cop kinsler. How did he do this? his security staff(also corrupt) took over virgil's data center. this explains two things 1.Why the lab was frozen 2.Why virgil said"caution hitchhikers may be escaped convicts" when you entered the core.(at first i thought i was the hitch hiker but then i saw those transcripts) not really hidden but not the first things you could put together [Edited on 12.29.2009 5:32 AM PST]

 • I think there is a darker secret behind new mombassa. An evil greater than the covenant and the UNSC. The zombielites, frightened engineers, hidden doors. Everything in this thread seems to link to something bigger darker. It's of course probably not true but it's my gut feeling. heh. I am following this thread intensely guys. I'm amazed how every little detail is recorded and painstakingly analyzed.

 • I was at stonehenge, and i killed both engineers, and this really deep music started to play. It sort of sounded like the music going into a battle. Upbeat, deep, had a heavy drum line etc. Another time at stonehenge, i pushed both dead elites into the centre of the circle, and the engineers started making weird noises, noises i had never heard them make before. They were being a lot louder than before and made a lot more sound. Not sure if this means anything.

 •
Posted by: Emansuela
Posted by: imppa Hmmmh, thanks for that, Prince. And good find, never thought there would be more Asklon skyscrapers. Btw, note that all the buildings you can get into (exluding ONI building) seem to belong for Asklon (posters on the wall). This and the fact that Asklon has two big buildings, may mean that Asklon is pretty big company. Meh, not a big thing, but still. Research continues.
There are other buildings that have the same logos. On the level where you can use the banshee and fly out you can see that several of the buildings have repeat logos.
Ah, yes, but I was talking about skyscrapes. Asklon is the only company with two skyscrapers (in the financial district/the area where ODST takes place. In the bigger part of the city, if I remember right, are skyscrapers of companies that have skyskrapers in financial district.:P)

 • You know, I'm still struggling with the QTA 12/6 thing. I wonder if the 12 skulls have anything to do with it. After all, Jaganatha on the controller supposedly means juggernaut. Maybe having specific/all skulls on in Campaign triggers a difference especially on Kikowani Station. Some brave souls should try this. I'm too lazy/busy at this point.

 • Maybe Bungie was lying when they said they specifically designed the controller to contain clues to New Mombassa, which is essentially saying "Hey, guys! Existing in the game is something more cryptic! Go ahead and see if you can find it. Mwuhahaha!" Because when Bungie takes valuable time to announce hidden clues at PAX, you know they are just pulling our legs. xD
Posted by: random king007 Mabye the secret is there are no secrets...
