Why I'm not so crazy about clans
Apologies in advance for the lengthy post.
So I'm a relatively new player, just started playing Destiny with the release of the Taken King. I've played it an awful lot since then actually and I've really enjoyed it. But as most people here probably know, as you start to get into end-game content there begins to be a limit to how far you can go as a solo player. Things like trials of osiris and the raid (two of the most common ways of getting max level gear) almost preclude solo play, and instead encourage you to play in teams of 3 or 6 respectively. Now for most people, this is simply a matter of finding a clan or posting on LFG. But honestly I'm a bit disappointed that this seems to be the limit of destiny's "community" resources. I've tried both, and my experience has not been all that pleasing.
With LFG, I find that most people out there are looking for players who fit very specific requirements. Ex. "Must be Lvl 40 310 light or above, w/ ToM". In my mind this does little to nothing for building a community amongst players and passes more for something in between a speedy job interview and a one night stand. Add in the fact that some of the players using LFG are not very friendly at all, and are simply just looking for people to use so that they can meet their own ends. (Albeit not everyone is like this, of course, but there's more than enough horror stories floating around online about people getting kicked right before the raid boss dies.)
My experience with clans is a bit more recent. I joined a clan about a week ago, simply looking to get to know some folks who play. This clan was advertised as fun and friendly, and open to everyone -my kind of jam. About the same time I get accepted to the group a post goes up introducing the clan. In that post was a list of the new members, from which I was omitted for some odd reason. Not the best start already. A bit later came a post saying that we should all join the facebook group, as they use it much more frequently than the clan page. Well, there I am poop out of luck as I don't use fb. I figure whatever, surely someone will make a post eventually looking for players. So I check the page frequently looking for a post, but nothing shows. (I should note that, at the time, I was a bit busy with real-life things so I couldn't actively make a post myself, but I just wanted to see if anyone was in need of another player in case I could help out and get to know some clan mates in the process). By the time I was about ready to make a post myself to find some players (this was yesterday) I saw that I had actually been removed from the clan! Pretty fast to remove someone who just joined imo, without even a warning or msg. Just lovely.
Anyway, the point of this post was not to rant - though I'm certain I've done enough without meaning to. I just wanted to express my grievances, and see if there are any like-minded individuals who've had similar experience. That being said, if you play on PS4 and are chill and laid-back and are just looking for people to play Destiny with (whether it be for trials or raids or just floating in orbit shooting the shit) give me an add on PSN and perhaps we can be great friends: IISwordMove.

I know how these things can go and because of basically everything you said my friends(in real life and those met in destiny) created a clan. Most people are inactive or play by themselves, however the number of friends has grown and everyone has been able to accomplish what they set out to do( except visit the lighthouse because that is insane). The following is the copy and paste crap, but just wanted to let you know that there are great experiences out there. Don't let a few bad apples ruin the game for you. Have bumped into some decent people here and there. A few people helped me out for my moments of triumph like doing skolas on hard.

To compensate we also made a PSN community but we encourage members to add all other clan mates when they join and to send out psn messages and invites when needing help. It really helps to add all the clan members to your friends list, that way whenever you are on you can see who else is on and what they are doing at that moment. Out of all the forms of communication that one seems to work the best. Takes a few minutes to add everyone but pays off in the end. Had to add something after reading other replies..... Clans take work, from EVERYBODY. You can't just join a clan, sit back and expect the invites to roll in. For a successful clan everyone needs to participate. That means adding members, trying to to set up raids etc., messaging people seeing if they need help, offering help etc. I encourage (bug the hell out of ) all new members to add everyone,jump in, participate. I sound like a broken record most of the time but at the end of the day we have a pretty solid clan that is dedicated to helping out it's members. Do a few fall through the cracks? Yes they do, but it's usually the ones who don't put the effort in.

We have about 30 members on the Playstation side and will be up to 50 by next week. We have 160+ members on Xbox one and are now building up the Playstation side of destiny. We are an end-game focused Destiny clan and do it all: NF Strikes, Raids, ToO Lighthouse runs, Iron-Banner and more. We do require you to participate in clan war events unless of course something comes up which is always understandable. We use the 'line' messaging app on our mobile devices for group chat/LFG so communication is outstanding and it makes finding clan mates a lot quicker and easier. 3 RepliesI have joined 8 different clans , the first 7 were bad , ether too big or finding groups within groups that did not have time for me. My last group was great but seems to have switched to other games. Keep trying differnt clans, most lie to get you to join and. start with a small clan so you can grow with the clan.

3 RepliesAlright, time to shamefully try to recruit you into our clan.... <Flexes fingers> Hopefully this doesn't turn into a Wall of Text to compete with yours (but it will, I have some guild spam I'll attach cause its easier than retyping it all over again anyways.). Heeeerrrrreee Weeee go! I was actually in the same point you were (Granted, I was there a bit sooner than you it seems - I've dealt with the same issue on other games anyways) but than I stumbled upon DOM (Deo Optimo Maximo) where they are more than just a clan, they are a community which strives on keeping an active forum focused on Discussion not LFG. We do have a thread dedicated to set raid times for people to see who to contact about joining them, but a lot of our random groups are thrown together just via Kik. The forum posting is a [u]requirement[/u] of all DOM members to keep active so you get to know a lot of your clan mates in your sector pretty well (And from other sectors as well when you venture into their discussions). I feel that is sufficient typing... as my fingers are tired today... lol my spam is long, but its informative. We are a large, sponsored clan that has been around for nearly 3 years, with over 400 members. But we also spread over 4 games, multiple systems and we are world wide. Our PS4 Destiny Sector has about 20 members that are active through out the day/evening, ranging from some hardcore raiders, casual players, and pvpers. Our xbox side is in the same kind of situation as well. If you are interested, there is a probation period and we do require our members to be active on our forums, but the probation is not a try out of any kind. KD does not matter, the quality of a player is the most important attribute that DOM looks for. Now, onto the goodies! We have a few raids/random stuff that happen through out the week: In general for everyone: -Kik is used often to throw together trails, iron banner, randomly thrown together Normal/Hardmode Kings Fall Groups groups on off schedualed nights. -In Clan tournaments (Not every week) with 'RL' rewards. -Events on forums -Events in other games anyone can join (BO3/CS:GO/Battlefield) if they find they need a break from destiny. For Raiding PS4 users: -Tuesdays Hardmode run starts around 5 PST and they tend to aim for 2 clears a night. (will be switching to Challange modes... 1%s) -Thursdays I lead a Normal run at 6 PST (Sometimes hard to teach the new players) -Saturdays we have a group that runs at 12 PM PST (EU group) -Saturday evenings we try to host a PVP night where people just cycle through as they hop on and mess around in a pre-made group. Success not guaranteed, fun times normally are. For Raiding Xbox One Users: -Tuesdays Normal Mode starting at 5 PM PST -Tuesday & Wednesdays starting at 8:00PM GMT+1 -Wednesday starting at 3:30 PM EST If your a mature player looking for somewhere you can just kick back, crack open a beer (Or whatever your poison maybe - even water <shivers>) and have some fun with like minded people DOM wants you. I have run into the same situation on ps4. These clans tell me to join them, but not a single member has looked at my post on the group forum or once grouped with me. It seems like every clan I do join ends up being solo.

There is no limit to the number of groups you can be in so don't hesitate to join multiple and test each of them out to find the one that's right for you.

1 ReplySounds like you joined the wrong clan. I know you may hear this from others but my clan self aware is a friendly group of guys to join up if you want to give clans another goa nd your on playstation 3 or 4. They've helped me enormously
