Edit: I use to work in film and I knew writers and directors who would structure their films in a way that it really couldn't be tinkered with or it would fall apart. I've seen it many many times. I believe this is what Joe did and Bungie's answer was to start from scratch cause they had no choice. I also believe that is why the story is not there cause Joe planned to have the story come to some decent resolution before any DLC was drop, I believe the story was going to change from us defeating the darkness, to realizing we were helping it out the whole time. Then it would shift, as good stories do, to making alliances with maybe the fallen or the vex, who knows. However, I believe Joe was going to keep us thinking and keep the story moving forward. This is speculation on my part but I think the idea of cutting up the story might have been toyed with and shot down. So how else could the higher ups get what they want? Say the story is not working and you have to remake it all. Then do it in a way that you can cut content out of it, which would explain the Destiny we got.

7 RepliesAnyone else find it funny how this article barely appeared anywhere else and has now been buried under a swarm of No Time to Explain articles on the outlets. Damage control must be in full effect.

9 RepliesKotaku is literally the Fox News of the gaming industry...You really expect their report to be 100% non leaning with absolutely no off-sided commentary? Yeah, no.

2 RepliesEdited by Gogmazios: 10/22/2015 1:57:42 PMThe execs should've been giving Joe Staten feedback since he started writing. If he had been told what to write all along, he might still be at Bungie and there wouldn't have been a story to dismantle. On another note, why couldn't they just spend a five percent royalty to use UE4? It's probably the same reason they don't invest in dedicated servers.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees it the way I do. https://youtu.be/ZF6mS01WxzM

1 ReplyKota- Truth (clever) This article was interesting and confirms much that the Community had suspected. This most interesting piece is the part we may never know and thats what specifically was it about the JS story that JJ didn't like ? Thats the core mystery .....

7 RepliesLoved how they scraped the "linear" story in favor of... a really crappy linear story made without the writers. Great article.

3 RepliesI would honestly be more interested in reading an article like this of the "inside story" around the decisions to make the game so grindy, to emphasize RNG systems and other economies that players seem to hate in order to...get them to play more grindy content again? I know there has been plenty of discussion around using psychology to reward players in order to keep them coming back. If they weren't setting up for a bigger micro-transaction emphasis from the very beginning I would be surprised. The decision to nerf [armory]Gjallarhorn[/armory] weeks before the Taken King made it obsolete anyway is a fascinating one. Or why it was felt introducing the new Legendary mark system (with lower overall caps) was an improvement over the previous one.

11 RepliesThe biggest flaw in your argument: the contract between Activision and Bungie. It states the release schedule. Multiple DLCs were planned from the beginning. So why shoot yourself in the foot from the start? You've already planned to sell subsequent releases at a rapid pace. So chopping up a "good, rich, story" to sell back later doesn't make sense.

Bump.

I believe we were going to team up with the fallen concerning grimore

I think they're a bit late lol, I think most people already know what happend to Destiny but its nice to be backed up with facts and proof.

1 ReplyTwo months before release is not a good time to start over several years of work. A poor decision on their part.

4 RepliesWhy do we even care about this? Sure it's interesting to read, but we all knew this already. And we're still playing. I can't believe this is trending for the millionth time in a year.

3 RepliesHey look this thread again for the 100th time.

6 RepliesYeah they told the truth.. it only took them a year to figure out what we knew the first week.

3 RepliesIt appears to me that the two hour video put together was a synopsis of the entire Destiny saga. That is to say, the four games and four expansions. If 'panic' ensued it was that the full story did not have enough content for four games and expansions. What would happen after the traveler was killed? This is not discussed in these speculative articles. In addition, to stretch it out to four games, the player would have spent a lot of time on earth figuring out the traveler was not all that was first believed. Which means that the other planets and moon would not come into play for quite a while. Remember that Marty O'Donnell had written the music for the entire series and not just the first game and expansion. The other thing that is completely ignored is that Destiny was originally supposed to be released on the Xbox 360. This means that it was based on what was essentially Halo: Reach technology. Recall that Reach used peer to peer for PvP. Ever since Halo: Combat Evolved, the enemies had patterns to their placement and behavior. This is how the Halo speed runners are able to motor throug the levels so quickly. This is nothing new and the criticism of enemies always showing up in the same place is a Bungie thing. Finally, these speculative articles ignore the testing required for a game that is actually four games. Destiny released on the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. All the consoles have completely different underlying architectures. Even though the PS4 and Xbox One use similar hardware, the memory management is very different and is not compatible. The Xbox 360 uses a triple core PowerPC architecture, while the PS3 uses a vector processor that is very difficult to use. This is not a small feat to be able to pull off what Bungie did with Destiny. Destiny was already a year late and I am sure that there was a lot of pressure to get it released, even if it was not a 'finished' product. Bungie has stated that dynamic enemies and moving to servers is coming. We need to have patience and understand all the effort that has gone into the game to date.

All of this is fact. There is a TED Talk about Destiny's engine on how incomplete the engine still is. This lines up with rumors of cut content and story. Explains why Destiny was delayed. It gives us their view on all their actions this year. Expect Destiny 2 to feature loss content, a better engine, more story, and more content than vanilla Destiny.

3 RepliesWhen life gives you Kotaku, make kotacos. Start with an empty shell. Add meat Add miscellaneous ingredients A little cheese...or a LOT And top it off with some spicy salsa. I suppose this could also be a handbook for making a video game...

1 ReplyNow we know who the Iron Lords are, and that they fkd up Destiny.

3 RepliesAlready read it dude. I'm not shocked in the slightest, although it just adds to my disappointment in this game. I was wondering, why do you use a picture of Sean Hannity for your profile?

1 ReplyEdited by xMikeTheRipper: 10/21/2015 11:13:16 PMSeriously..old ass news. Nobody cares anymore. It's been known since destiny was released and confirmed after Marty's law suit against Bungie.
