I probably wouldn't. So much would change in the world. Probably for the worse. Feel free to debate.

From a practical standpoint, religion has historically served to do two things. First, it is a means by which the government placates the people. Second, it is a way to justify the government's position and decisions. If you got rid of religion, governments (or strongmen, chieftains, anyone in a position of power), would be forced to find new ways to protect themselves, likely by the use of force, or they would fall, leaving complete anarchy. Religion has in all likelihood saved more lives than it has ended, because rulers could control their populace with minimal amounts of force.

Well... We are where we are because of religion... It could be s good thing without religion but honestly the change would be so large it's almost scary
im an Athiest by the way
I don't think modern civilization would exist if religion was removed.
-
Religion came about because people wondered about the world around them and tried to make sense of it. That same curiosity is what drives scientific discovery today. At what cost to what defines us as human beings would eliminating religion come?
-
Nope. I wouldn't change history at all given the chance. Things could be a lot worse than they are now.
-
In a heartbeat. It's far and away the number one cause of war, social tension, prejudice, etc.

7 RepliesThere was a study that came out a few years ago that said if religion did not exist, we would be 1000 years into the future in science and technology. Sadly religion had to hold back the advancement of science and the advancement of technology.

5 RepliesNah. After contemplating the nature of time travel for extended periods of time, I came to the determination that it's better not to interfere with any events of the past. Too much potential for unintended consequences due to ripple effects.

No. It was one of the first sources of morality and law in humanity. I would remove it now.

Edited by pokepatrick1: 10/8/2015 1:44:48 AMOur culture and way of live would be completely different. There are virtually no ancient civilization that didn't have a deity of any sort. Only in very very recent time has that idea even been conceived.

I'm not religious but history would be so different without religion

1 ReplyWe would probably be around 1,000 years more advanced if religion was never created.
