What makes this game like this great is the ability for people to use different strategies in order to succeed. When one strategy is op, meaning it offers a clear advantage over others, then it needs to be balanced with the other strategies instead of being nerfed into oblivion.
Blink shotgun is op because as long as blink and shotgun exist in their current form, even if shotguns are balanced properly, blink shotgun will combine blink with maximum range shotguns and cross the line between balanced and overpowered.
To this end, blink should increase the time that it takes to ready up a weapon before firing after someone blinks. This would not change the effectiveness of other weapons in conjunction with blink. However, a perk on shotguns that would be mutually exclusive to rangefinder and shot package should be available that reduces the amount of time that it takes to ready and fire your shotgun after blinking. If balanced correctly, this would allow for blink shotgunning to still exist while having competition from longer range shotgunners.
This would allow people to tailor their strategy to what they prefer, while balancing the effectiveness of each strategy with the other, instead of having one strategy to rule them all. Congratulations, a LOTR reference.
Any thoughts?

5 RepliesEdited by GraciousEel761: 8/23/2015 3:23:55 AMIt should be like that regardless. Blink shouldn't be an offensive capability any more than Lift, Glide or Double Jump. However, there should be certain benefits to each type of jump. It really isn't like that right now, Blink is just better than anything else really. Honestly, I think the best solution is nerfing the damage for Shotguns enough that it would require precision damage to get a one hit kill. It would solve Shotgun imbalance overall, and affect Blink/Shotgun positively, whether or not they fix it in any way. Blink/Shotgun isn't the problem, its just the most annoying incarnation of the problem. The problem is that Shotguns are way too good. They are basically instant charge Fusion Rifles that can be tricked out to have similar effective range while being hit scan weapons.

20 RepliesEdited by kindaSketch: 8/23/2015 2:56:21 AMR u friggin serious. How about this. Let's make shoulder charge easier to trigger. lets give warlocks something else that's op and then nerf the hunters blink so you titans and locks can have even more of an edge than you already have.oh I know..three grenades for them instead of two. While we r at it lets make golden gun shots weaker so it takes two shots to kill....I tell you what,if they touch my hunters blink add me to the list of ppl who will never play this game again. Blink shot gunning takes some skill to pull off. Also it's one of the things that help the hunter class remain competitive among two op opponents. Really..take three hunters and put them in a match against two sunsinger warlocks and a striker titan..the hunters are fighting an uphill battle and anyone that says otherwise isn't being honest.

1 ReplyIf only we could all carry a shotgun, sniper, and a primary at the same time, you could counter any attack in a fair way. I hate feeling a bit defenseless against blink shotgun as a sniper.

2 RepliesEdited by iDovahBear: 8/23/2015 12:51:06 AMI think every Class should just have access to Blink on at least one subclass. I don't see why it's such a difficult thing to achieve. Hell make it Defenders and give them half a reason to feel better about Catapult not working and Bubble being nerfed to worst Super in Crucible on average or at least in popular opinion.

There is only one reason: hunters' quickdraw perk for bladedancer. We all know what that does.

Blinks original intent was for navigation around the map. It was that at first, then some guy said, "Wait what if I blink and then shotgun someone as I come down on top of them." I mean blink probably needs a nerf anyway just by itself. When I'm on my hunter for example and the guy I'm swinging at can merely blink away from my at blade repeatedly, it's annoying. People had ideas about making the cool down longer or making it so you have weaker armor for like five seconds after blinking.

9 RepliesI'd be fine with that. As long as they add the same weapon ready restrictions to the titan and warlock jumps.

Honestly you're hitting the nail on the head. And really what it boils down to is simply that out of all the jump/movement perks, Blink is the only used offensively. Everything else does what the tree is specifically tailored to do: Move around better. While blink can also be used defensively and as a means to really get around, the fact that it's used in concert with shotguns as a means to quickly and effectively close distance and deal lethal damage with minimal risk is why it needs to be adjusted. Well said.

I normally do my best to shut down nerf posts. They are almost always a matter of someone who is too lazy to adjust. However, you almost won me over. Credit where credit is due: coherent proposal for balancing something. VERY rare around here.

2 RepliesI agree. It shouldn't be a great nerf, just something to deter blink-shotgun and make it less reliable. Around 5 frames or so, assuming this game runs at 30 fps (I believe it do). It would make everything much better.
