Helped a kid getting to the lighthouse - Started crying

Im not going to name this guy because of obvious reasons but I will share the story with you. I was playing Trials with 2 mates this saturday. We were on 8 wins and came up against a pretty mediocre squad on our last decisive game. They were really struggling and I had a very good game and ended up going 17-5. After the game I got a voice message from a young dude on the team we faced saying "can you please help me getting to the Lighthouse"? I thought about it for a second, thinking that carrying people to Lighthouse is really hard. Unless you're Kjhovey, Triplewreck or Kraftyy. Im good but not just that good. I told this kid to friend me and I'll give it a shot on sunday. I logged on to Destiny on sunday afternoon and immidiately got a party invite. It was the kid and his friend. We played two Skirmish games and then jumped into Trials. My sniping was on spot this day but I wasnt sure if we could pull this off. I couldnt help not to check this kids Trials history, it was abit horrid to be honest, his friend had a flawless emblem and he seemed pretty decent though. We started and got matched up against a very sweaty team in our first game. We were down 1-4 and our opponents played very aggresive. I got plenty of kills but these guys revive game were too strong. I told my teammates to push them away from the dead body as soon as I get the snipe and "nade" the tunnels. We did that I managed to turn the game around 5-4. What a clutch. This kid was litterarely shouting in his mic, I had to calm him down. But we played like a team. The other games really worked out for us. We got outside spawn most of the times and I could beat them to the angles almost every game getting first blood, push the orb. This combined with good tactics on heavy round took us all the way to the lighthouse. Despite teaming up with two guardians with negative kd. With teamwork you can go a long way. This kid just lost it after our last game when he realized he went flawless. "OMFG I finally did it! I went flawless, I cant beleive it! Thank you Glowiii!! Omg omg omg....And so it went on until I put destination on Lighthouse. A big "Wooow" followed up by a "Mom! I made it to the lighthouse"!! And I could hear this guy sobbing in the mic as the animation where the Guardian steps out of his ship appeared. Then it was just tears of happiness as we explored Mercury before collecting the loot. He got a Jewel of Osiris (solar). It was a nice feeling being able to help out but at the same time disturbing finding out how much this game type actually matters to some of us. Im still not sure what to think about this, yet its a true story. Edit: Thanks for all the positive feedback! Im not the last guy to admit it took me a long time to gradually understand that it feels better making someone happy rather than filling people with hate. You can drop the "macho-model" and trade it for the friendly guardian one. The world is already coughing of hate and betrayal, we look much better with a smile. What are you, Guardians? - Gentlemen.

I've seen people cry at Baseball games. Granted I'm from Chicago. What you do is just as awesome. And you hit your own homeruns. Thanks for rewarding that kid's brave spirit.

You were that kid's hero that day. Besides a few good rounds I was carried the only time I went. It's always good to see the elite players in PVP help out us scrubs. As for the tears of joy, it just shows how much it meant to him and the effort he put forth to get there. Hats off to you Guardian!

    • That's really big of you man that's awesome. Many of use are horrible at PVP myself included. It means the world when someone is willing to help us. I have only gone once and it was one of the coolest feelings.

    • Thanks a million for helping that kid out. A lot of little kids play the game, but get yelled at by older gamers. I hate it when I see sweet kids catch flak for shit we would laugh off with an older person, so this made my morning. Thanks. We need more people willing to help like this!

    • I have a similar story. I was bored so I joined my friend's lobby and some random dude joined in. My friend had recruited him from the forums. Nobody would help him because he never went flawless so he made a post lying to people about him going flawless at least one time so he could get help. My friend didn't know that he did this, but soon my friend had to leave. I figured I was bored enough to do trials with a random. I asked him of he had any friends that wanted to join, so he invited somebody else who only went flawless one time before. They both barely have a 1.0 KD. So we start playing trials and I noticed that they would listen to everything I said, which caused us to win some rounds we shouldn't of. Eventually we are 8-0 and we had no mercy boon. The round was tied 4-4(this was the most intense round of trials ever). My teammates died to firebolts grenades, but they managed to kill off one of our enemies. Another enemy made a mistake by getting to his teammate's orb too early, and I picked him off with my hawkmoon. Then it is a 1v1. I shot first with my hawkmoon and got LitC to proc. He had a thorn, so I was burning at near death. The round timer kicks in, but I already knew what was going to happen. The warlock I just killed self resurrects, and I could hear my teammate's voices and they sounded very depressed. The thing is, I was on my bladedancer and had quickdraw on. I instantly switched to her benevolence and killed the warlock right when his animation was over. Then I heard screaming through my mic, I've never heard somebody get so happy on this game. Soon we head to the lighthouse, and this dude is just amazed at everything(he's about 20 btw lol) and I show him the chest. He gets a void messenger. He gets even more excited. He sends me a friend request and I added him. Later I asked him if he wanted to kill crota, and he said yes. I start it up on normal since it's only the two of us. I had to guide him through everything. I asked him, "have you've ever done this raid before?" and he told me that he couldn't find a group because he didn't have a gjallarhorn. This made me want to help him even more. We eventually get to crota and he asked me, "how am I going to take his shield down by myself if I don't have a gjallarhorn?" I told him "you're on a hunter, I'm gonna teach you how to run the sword!" So I told him the exact setup that he needed to use to kill crota, and he kills him on his second try.
Helping noobs is one of the best ways to make friends in this game.
