That was ONE ship captain... who immediately got court marshalled for failing to assist Spartan 117.
I assume you were referring to Captain Del Rio?

That doesn't change the fact the Spartans don't have command over the UNSC

Spartans take point and are given field command. Fleet Command orders all their ships and troops to offer any and all support the Spartans request. Captain Del Rio was dishonorably discharged and court marshaled when he refused to help the Chief.

If Spartans can use their ships, then guardians get to use the traveler.

Edited by JSDFREEDOM89: 8/3/2015 4:37:11 PMYou mean the giant, dead orb? It doesn't do anything. Even the Speaker and Eris Morn tell you the Traveler is dead. Guardians "get to use" the Traveler... to do what exactly?
You mean the giant, dead orb? It doesn't do anything. Even the Speaker and Eris Morn tell you the Traveler is dead. Guardians "get to use" the Traveler... to do what exactly?
It was clearly stated by the ghost that light has returned to the traveler. And the traveler could easily do literally anything. Like taking a UNSC ship and crushing it to the size of a tennis ball.

Edited by JSDFREEDOM89: 8/3/2015 5:33:08 PM
And the traveler could easily do literally anything.
Assuming it is still alive... which by the quote "in its dying breath..." clearly states it is not. But let's assume, however, the Traveler is still alive. Why does it not stop the fallen and the hive who control 99% of the Earth? How does it even lose fights if it could just magically respawn everything as you think it would do? Why is the darkness a threat, if the Traveler can literally do anything EXCEPT defend itself? Why not just destroy the dreadnaught before it arrives? Why not wipe the Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars clean from enemies, if it can do anything. It does none of these things because it either can't or won't. Can but won't = either malevolent or dead Can't but would = either dead or incapable Can't AND won't = the Traveler is incapable of being able to do anything... or is dead.

That's a question for bungie, besides it wouldn't be an interesting story if you didn't have any enemies to fight. Not to mention the darkness suppresses light.
