Hey M1101,
There there no way to reach level 32 without the DLC. You [b]can[/b] reach level 31 buy purchasing vanguard, crucible, Dead Orbit etc. gear. Also, you can not get the DLC off your friend unless you have the Xbox 360 and do a lisence transfer. Hope this helped.

You download your friends profile onto your system, log in as him, go to settings and then I'm pretty sure you go to profile. If not maybe account. On the bottom it should say lisence transfer. It will then give you a list of the stuff your friend has downloaded. Scroll down till you find The Dark Below. Click on it and then it will promt you to download. I'm not sure if it will work for Destiny DLC but I know it works for CoD DLC.
