To all the "high and mighty" 32's
Let me first say I know that there are plenty of 32s out there that are genuinely kind and helpful to the not so experienced guardians. I personally have a few to thank for making me the raider I am today. That being said...
I was doing a vog run on hard and made it to the oracles when one of our teammates had to leave. A few short minutes later a level 32 joins us. AWESOME! RIGHT...?
Nope. He proceeded to assume direct command before even beginning the encounter. Up until we lost someone were having a pretty smooth run with a clean strategy. Not only did he take over the play calling he started criticizing us saying he was the only one doing anything.
It doesn't end there.
After a measly TWO wipes, he proceeds to say he didn't feel like doing the oracles, oh, and he didn't want to do the Templar either. So he decided to leave, but not before asking us to reinvite him if we got past those parts. (He emphasized the if)
The original team consisted of one 29 and the rest were 31s. We weren't asking him to carry us, merely just carry the weight of a typical 6th teammate.
Moral of my story; just cause you're one level higher than most people doesn't automatically make you the raid master/play caller. Work with your team, find out they're strengths and choose a strategy that works for everyone. If you are as good as you claim you are, you shouldn't have a problem with adjusting.
Most of us take orders all day at work, we don't want to deal with it on our gaming time as well.
Edit: I don't know if people are forgetting my opening paragraph appraising all the genuine 32s, I just want everyone to know that I'm well aware that the amount of 32s that act like this are few and far in between and that there are even some lower level players with this attitude. Bottom line, no one should act like this. Interact with your team and have fun
Edit 2: to those of you crying n00b! Because we wiped at the oracles, I understand why you would think that but let me elaborate. Neither of those wipes were legit attempts to pass the phase. They were spent looking for a cubby hole(not the one with the spirit bloom chest) that one person could hide in and take out the back oracles. He didn't know where it was, only said that someone he played with used it one time. This pretty much confirmed to me that he was a level 32 due to piggybacking.

Sorry just didn't know because some people say they are 32 when they only have like a level 10 character and act like they know bout the raid
-
What's funny is 32 won't matter in a couple months.
-
What's funny is it will matter bcuz u still nd to get to lvl 33? ??
-
Meaning when crota raids started, vanguard gear you could purchase put you up to 31, where people had to compete vog raid set gear in order to achieve before. So when the reef raid comes out with new raid gear and a higher light level cap, you'll be able to just buy gear that makes crota gear useless.
-
Youll be able to buy 32 vanguard and crucible is what hes meaning, I believe.
-
-
Huh im lost, hahaha ..
-
Yes, but then 33's will be in this position
-
I think it goes both ways. I've joined as the highest level person before, and everyone else continues dying and sucking, and it gets frustrating, especially when it is the same stupid mistake, over and over again. I do also second whoever said that as the highest level, people just expect you to do the toughest role. To me though, I warn them if I haven't done it before and enjoy the challenge of giving it a go. On the flip side, there are a lot of 32s I've encountered now that feel like they're God's gift to gamers. It can definitely be annoying and frustrating. There are plenty of nice ones though.
-
I understand it's annoying as hell to be the person that's expected to carry the team, and if that happens on anything other than vault of glass on normal then, yes, they are trying to exploit you. If your doing vog on normal though, just be patient and do your best to teach them. I mean it's normal, it's not that hard to find another team more competent later on if you aren't able to beat it in one sitting with first timers.
-
I said all of that to basically say: it goes both ways. Just be patient, and if the guy is a jerk, there's a quick way to fix it...give 'em a boot in the ass and send him on his merry way. If you check the recruitment section of the forums, there are always people looking to do the raids on every difficulty, and if you have 5 people, it is usually very quick getting a 6th. Good luck raiding!
-
Well it also depends on the person too the guy was probably a dick

The best part about playing a game and taking orders compared to taking orders at work is the ability to tell that level 32 to go f u c k his/herself. I do it all the time and I've reached level 32 myself.
-
I have 2, level 32's and I approve this message.
-
Im sure I'm not alone here when stating that since i have become lvl 32 i very rarely have to wait any time at all to get an invite from LFG when searching for a fire-team. On the flip side to this argument I find that most of the people inviting a lvl 32 into their fire team expect a ruthless badass that can hold their hand through the whole raid with one hand tied round his balls. If im the only 32 on the team they have the natural assumption that i will be sword bearer and they seem somewhat pissed off when i tell them "I've never done it before". All im saying is that you are going to get knobeads whatever level you encounter, we cant generalize on people based on their light level.

I typically act as raid master when the clan gets together. But I never have a problem adjusting when someone has a different idea on how we should do a specific part. From just shuffling people around to an entire new strategy, I'm willing to give it a shot if my method doesn't work in the first try or two. And yes, that helps immensely. Have gotten through a couple of parts just by listening to suggestions from my team. Take notes people. You really only need one though. Listen to your team and be willing to try their ideas. Or you might find yourself soloing raids.
-
If it wasn't for helpful raiders I wouldn't have even attempted VoG, so a massive thanks to those that helped, even had a super patient raider help and talk us all through it. I would be prepared to help any level through missions and strikes when asked instead of being rude to those who are a lower level than your self. After all isn't that what a gaming community should be about ?
-
Would anyone be interested in starting a clan ? I haven't yet done the crota raid and have a save on VoG which I haven't yet completed, it would also be easier to find like minded guardians to raid and strike with
-
Seems like common sense to me! Guess it's part of what you get when immature kids play too
-
So he was the typical asshole, nothing new. But it's not the light level, it's the person.
-
I'm a 32 and I ran the nightfall with a 29 today. Just me and him. I help people all the time. Now when it comes to other 32s helping me on crota hard cp...that another story.
-
As a 32, you should be the more flexible player. He should be able to adjust to other strategies, or give helpful tips and ideas rqther than forcing his strategy on a group of people. I have almost 3 lvl 32 characters, and I know there are plenty of ways to complete parts of raids. although i usually only group up with friends and friends of friends, so i havent ever had something like this happen. But once people start getting frustrated and name drop other people, it ruins it for everyone. Raids require team work and if someone is struggling you help them out, you dont yell at them and tell them they are bad.

Any level 32 who assumes a 29-31 is a "noob" is a conceited @$$hole. I often change all my armor which levels me from 28 to 32. You shouldn't have to deal with that and kick 'em next time. OR just tell him, in a PC way, to STFU.
-
You should've booted him.
