A hand cannon should be a weapon that rewards excellent shooting skill with hard earned points. Generally not for the noobs out there. A weapon that trades fire rate and stability for impact and damage. The guns I list here are undermining that balance and out gunning the majority of primaries on the battlefield:
Thorn: So youre not a good enough shot to land those headshots? Dont worry. Thorn will get those kills for you. A few sloppily landed shots to the chest and the lingering damage will take care of you, even if youve managed to kill your opponent, even if you made it to cover.
Hawkmoon: Who doesnt love getting killed with one shot? And were not talking about snipers. You line up your shot, your targets almost dead, then he looks over and caps you once in the head with that 'luck in the chamber' and goes along his merry way. Or destroys you in two swift shots from across the map. And those lucky shots always seem to stack right on top of the magazine. And if you miss your first two shots dont worry. Youve got eleven more and youre ready to spam away.
The Last Word: A legendary hand cannon is deadly enough if used correctly. Take that hand cannon and triple its rate of fire. Now you have a spam cannon. Yes. It has a lot of recoil. A lot of very predictable recoil. In close to medium range any noob can spam those eight shots fast enough to kill you.
In the hands of an ok player, these guns are very annoying. In the hands of an excellent player who doesnt need to rely on cheap weapons to rack up a lot of kills but chooses to do so anyway, theyre downright rage inducing.
People say these guns are 'hard to get' and 'require a lot of skill to use'. Getting hawkmoon is lucky. We all know where most people got their TLW. And yeah the thorn bounty is a pain in the ass but if youre even half decent at pvp you can get it. Regarding skill, there must be A LOT of very skilled players out there because I see one or more of these hand cannons in essentially every match I play.
They need to be tamed. Make it more difficult to land shots with these beasts. Limit their range. Tone down the damn lingering thorn damage. Do something. Dont neuter them completely but do something. Please. They are a slap in the face of this concept of 'balance' that bungie is supposedly trying to achieve in the crucible.
EDIT : I posted this very same thread a few days ago with the title 'Exotic Hand Cannons Reward Poor Marksmanship in Crucible'. I guess that title wasn't very appealing because it got maybe one reply. Even though that's the discussion I was interested in having with people. So I thought I'd make the title a little more inflammatory and sure enough, throw an insult out there and people are all over it.
And for everyone who seems to have trouble reading IM NOT TALKING ABOUT LEGENDARY OR BELOW HAND CANNONS. Just exotics. I have utmost respect for people who can wreck heads with Fatebringer for example.

1 Antworten80% in Crucible is Thorn user and shotgun. I call it the noob setup up but I can't blame players if Bungie doesn't do anything. I know Thorn user and shotgun would defend the point but really there a reason why 80% players use Thorn and shotguns.

3 AntwortenThis coming from the retard using hawkmoon.

1 AntwortenI have thorn, hawkmoon, and the last word...and all three take skill in the crucible. None of the three are overpowered...hence the words "hand cannons"...learn how to shoot your AR better....
-
Also... Feeeeeeed my hawkmoon your tears!
-
3 AntwortenSome require skill but I just *sigh* at people who think their *the one*

1 AntwortenI disagree. I used to roll with TLW In pvp, then i got the hawkmoon, wich i've been using since then at pvp. I also own a vex mythoclast and vanquisher VII wich are the two other weapons that i find very good at pvp (i dont have suros though). Based on my experience, i find those AR way easier to use (im talking about vex as if it was an AR cause it works like one), but even though the hand cannons are harder to use, if you play them right, they reward you well. I like to consider myself as a pretty good pvp player, and im not ashamed of using hand cannons. Actually i'm very proud of my habilities with it. :)

I love my hawkmoon. Only exotic I use unless its suros.

Yes cry more

3 AntwortenBearbeitet von ValorRob: 1/14/2015 7:59:30 PMThe only time Hawkmoon OHKs is when the magic bullets all stack on one shot. VERY RARE. If you get 2 headshots with one magic bullet it kills. Otherwise it's 3 headshots for a kill. Getting headshots all in a row before you get killed by a fusion rifle, AR or vex is more difficult then you think. With the TTK it requires timing and good cover play to do well. I don't see how hand cannons are skill less weapons. You trade up rate of fire, stability and clip size for more impact. Edit. Your hunter has a Hawkmoon equipped.

1 AntwortenInteresting point about that scout rifle you're not carrying, nice Hawkmoon BTW. Of your concerns only the Thorn and Hawkmoon have truly exotic perks. The potential of luck rounds stacking is probably unintentional and certainly overpowered, and the Thorn's burn is frustrating but chances are if the person was able to land 2 headshots on you your life was limited anyways. The Last word has impressive base stats, but its exotic perk is trash, bonus crit damage sounds nice, but at the cost of aimed precision damage really limits the weapon.

2 AntwortenWell I use Hand Cannons and I would rate myself an amazing player, not MLG but I'm gooood. And Thorn makes me feel weak. I always. Pull it out when Mythoclasts and Regimes start coming out. Even then, whenever I get a kill, I cringe. I feel like I was t worthy of it at all. To the point that I switch to my common hand cannon Searcher MK 12. If I had Hawkmoon I would be unstoppable... I'm still waiting for that gun.
-
I guess we should define the rules based pn what you think hand cannons should be like.
-
Hand cannons have as many ups as they do downs. Honestly, Suros Regime and the Mythoclast are just as competitive. I still see where you're coming from though.
-
Dude you are trippin !! I'm still trying to learn the skills to make TLW all it can be. I never believed it but hand cannons take a lot more skill then anything else. I used to think hand cannons needed a nerf till I started using one. I may suck ass with them right now but I'm in love with the last word and it's only 300 damage and not upgraded at all.
-
Yawn....tl:dr.
-
I consistently use thorn to good effect, but I also Shit on other Thorn and TLW users quite often. If they're so OP why don't you use them yourself?
-
Lmfao take a seat somewhere
-
No..just no
-
All balanced out by 6-11 rounds. Instead of 80 high speed spray and pray bullets you get a condensed more powerful shot. What should they do make it exactly as strong as each auto rifle bullet? Balance, variety, personal playing preference. I think they ALL have pros and cons.
-
1 AntwortenMy opinion exotic hand cannons suros vex and the fusions are easy mode weapons for nubs

42 AntwortenRegarding the last sentence of your post: if you were so amazing with a scout rifle you wouldn't need to write a two page essay bitching about how you get owned by hand cannons. Good day mate.
-
1 AntwortenStop complaining. Use them or figure out a strategy to avoid getting killed by them.
-
No they're not
-
2 AntwortenI dont play PvP and it would seriously piss me off if they get nerfed cause someone is getting owned in PvP.

2 AntwortenBearbeitet von KIngJS922: 1/14/2015 8:44:01 AMYou obviously haven't used a thorn. It takes two head shots for the poison damage to kill you, I would know. It's hilarious before the patch you guys put the gun up there with bad juju and now all they did was slightly increase rof and give 3 more bullets and now it's op. The lingering damage only does 7 DoT, and it damages you 4 times, thats 28 damage. And I doubt you'd do much with a scout rifle unless you're using one of the select few. Scouts and pulses are still a tad underpowered, more so for pulse. As for hawkmoon, I don't have the gun but my buddy does and you'll be lucky to get a 1 shot with hawkmoon. Also, legendary hand cannons especially ones like fate bringer are just exotics with a purple background. Before you call any weapon op you should probably use it, I don't care enough to look on your profile but it's evident enough that you've never used a thorn before. TLW has lower base damage than a legendary handcannon, I wrecked people with my time's lash, thorn, tlw, and PAINTED BIG CHIEF all the same.
