A hand cannon should be a weapon that rewards excellent shooting skill with hard earned points. Generally not for the noobs out there. A weapon that trades fire rate and stability for impact and damage. The guns I list here are undermining that balance and out gunning the majority of primaries on the battlefield:
Thorn: So youre not a good enough shot to land those headshots? Dont worry. Thorn will get those kills for you. A few sloppily landed shots to the chest and the lingering damage will take care of you, even if youve managed to kill your opponent, even if you made it to cover.
Hawkmoon: Who doesnt love getting killed with one shot? And were not talking about snipers. You line up your shot, your targets almost dead, then he looks over and caps you once in the head with that 'luck in the chamber' and goes along his merry way. Or destroys you in two swift shots from across the map. And those lucky shots always seem to stack right on top of the magazine. And if you miss your first two shots dont worry. Youve got eleven more and youre ready to spam away.
The Last Word: A legendary hand cannon is deadly enough if used correctly. Take that hand cannon and triple its rate of fire. Now you have a spam cannon. Yes. It has a lot of recoil. A lot of very predictable recoil. In close to medium range any noob can spam those eight shots fast enough to kill you.
In the hands of an ok player, these guns are very annoying. In the hands of an excellent player who doesnt need to rely on cheap weapons to rack up a lot of kills but chooses to do so anyway, theyre downright rage inducing.
People say these guns are 'hard to get' and 'require a lot of skill to use'. Getting hawkmoon is lucky. We all know where most people got their TLW. And yeah the thorn bounty is a pain in the ass but if youre even half decent at pvp you can get it. Regarding skill, there must be A LOT of very skilled players out there because I see one or more of these hand cannons in essentially every match I play.
They need to be tamed. Make it more difficult to land shots with these beasts. Limit their range. Tone down the damn lingering thorn damage. Do something. Dont neuter them completely but do something. Please. They are a slap in the face of this concept of 'balance' that bungie is supposedly trying to achieve in the crucible.
EDIT : I posted this very same thread a few days ago with the title 'Exotic Hand Cannons Reward Poor Marksmanship in Crucible'. I guess that title wasn't very appealing because it got maybe one reply. Even though that's the discussion I was interested in having with people. So I thought I'd make the title a little more inflammatory and sure enough, throw an insult out there and people are all over it.
And for everyone who seems to have trouble reading IM NOT TALKING ABOUT LEGENDARY OR BELOW HAND CANNONS. Just exotics. I have utmost respect for people who can wreck heads with Fatebringer for example.

I would honestly disagree with you on this. I'm not all that great in PVP but with my Suros or Vex I can drop most hand cannon users without too much of a problem. Of course, that doesn't take into account the people that are very good in general and destroy me with hand cannons, but I tend to believe in those situations that even if they were using a throwing knife they'd still kick my ass. I try to avoid the crucible but from the time I've played I haven't run into a single gun that was OP, just players that were better than me.
-
if these guns are so unbalanced then why is it that the majority of people still use autorifles and shotguns for crucible? You have guns like suros and vex and invective even shadow price or vanquisher. auto rifles have more range in most cases and make it easier to shoot while strafing. A lot of things are considered unbalanced by the people that die by them but the reality is that auto rifles are still used more. Btw if you compare the fire rate on last word and devil you dont, they are the same.

Yeah they are way too well rounded, the rest of the guns have nice tradeoffs but not Handcanons
-
personally i love my thorn n last word have praedyth revenge with a hand cannon on cant wait for hawk moon

2 AntwortenI respect your opinion sir, but everything is not as it seems. I, for one, enjoy a challenge and thorn has been my go to weapon since I got it in October. At that time it was an untamable beast that took time to master. I learned to make every shot count and didn't take the shot if it wasn't a good one. With only 6 rounds and a painfully slow reload, those who spammed shots ultimately failed. I run thorn with "send it" and and "cqb ballistics" giving me extreme range and more impact but very low stability, making it kick like a mule. The exotic update really didn't bring much more to the table truthfully. It didn't increase the stats other than reload and mag size so the update was basically just averaging out those stats but in turn allows for those awful users with no skill in accuracy to run out of ammo a bit slower. Yes I agree those people are cowards. But the rest of us are not. Truth is people who were used to last words rapid fire just use thorn now so it's still the same old spray-and-pray style players. It's funny how everyone calls for exotic buffs then almost immediately calls for nerfs. You would have never written a post like this before the patch.

1 AntwortenYour a Poopsicle, is that inane and thoughtless enough for a troll?

This is hilarious I have all except the hawk moon (Xbox one player) my favorite weapon is a hand cannon I dominate in crucible with it. It's my baby. Seriously you're trying to say "make hand cannons useless" maybe it's because you get destroyed? Maybe you're just a hater? Maybe you can't get an exotic hand cannon? Try one out for yourself. It takes skill to use bro. You may think it's OP but behind the use of a hand cannon is harder than you think...
-
I agree but then again I'm a beast I'll easily strategize around there hand cannons and virtually rxxpe them
-
I'm not a very good crucible player but as long as someone has fusion rifle ammo, it's over. that's all the crucible is, fusion rifle and shotgun fest
-
Says the guy using a shotgun in pvp lol
-
Nothing but thorn in iron banner. It's frustrating. But eh you'll get over it

2 AntwortenOh my god. Im so tired of people crying about how exotics should be nerfed. Theyre exotic for a reason. If you cant handle yourself in crucible stop wasting your time b*tching about it on the forums and get better or get better guns. Period.
-
I'm not a good pvp-er by any means. I consider myself possibly average. I rarely play crucible but today I finally decided to start the pvp portions of the thorn and bad juju bounties. I ran with Atheons epilogue, some void shorty and corrective measure. To my surprise I was out gunning dudes with thorn left and right. Maybe they just weren't very good. Idk and idc. Any gun can be out played by another.
-
Fight fire with fire.... but i like how people never said anything about the thorn and ever since they buffed it by just increasing mag size and reload speed.
-
The problem is, balance doesn't work from the top down, it works from the bottom up. There are blue handcannons out there that came with TDB, that are two shot kills with easy recoil. Those would need to be dealt with first. But that isn't the only reason balance doesn't work as simply as you think. If you have an average player wielding TLW, which supposedly makes them dons of the crucible, and I come up against them - I'll put them down because I always get the headshot. If you make the weapon worse, you have the same situation, the good players will put down the players who aren't as skilled.
-
Says the scrub with a Hunter/Hawkmoon. Tisk tisk
-
If the weapon gets me a kill then I use it. Quit crying. Oh an exotic hand cannon killed you? I'm sorry. Let me get you a tissue. Seriously bro, you whine too much. Just play the game.

Bearbeitet von Legend of Jordy: 1/14/2015 9:09:03 PMBack in the day, Auto-Rifles were cowards. What's next, pulse rifles? Players who use Hand-cannons rely on their steady aim rather than their trigger finger. I use a short scoped sniper in PvP and it's very over powered in good hands. One shot weapons reward skilled hands, auto-rifles reward those who can hold a trigger.
-
well you have a hawkmoon equiped...
-
I really don't get how you could think anyone who uses an exotic hand cannon is a coward. Anyone who has the balls to use anything besides a shotgun/fusion rifle is fine in my book.

Last Word isn't really any better than any other HC excepting that it reloads faster. That makes it more dangerous, but not OP. Thorn is a little OP, but it requires a lot of work, so it balances.

1 Antworten80% in Crucible is Thorn user and shotgun. I call it the noob setup up but I can't blame players if Bungie doesn't do anything. I know Thorn user and shotgun would defend the point but really there a reason why 80% players use Thorn and shotguns.
