I just got done looking through a few threads and have to say that this is just annoying.
Whenever someone brings up the topic of wanting a weapon buffed or sometimes nerfed, there are always arguments that ensue and would inevitably end with calling the person who doesnt care a "casual".
Now being called "casual" doesnt bother me. What bothers me is that people try to use that word as if it were an insult. How is it an insult? Its just the way someone plays the game. Just because they dont take a virtual, non-real world problem as seriously as you do, doesnt mean they are "ruining the game". It means that they dont care and know how to adapt to the situation.
In my experience of being on forums and gaming for many many years, I have to say that the only difference between casuals and "hardcore" players is not the amount of time you each have invested into the game, its that the hardcore players bitch more about shit in a VIDEO GAME.
This seriously needs to stop. Both casuals and hardcore players play the same game and why does it matter if one doesnt take an issue as seriously as another about something that doesnt matter in real life?
Just enjoy the damn game.
EDIT: I am really impressed by how many people understand this. Just to put this out there, I am a casual hardcore gamer. I have been gaming for 20 years and I DO care a lot about some franchises and play a lot (every day as a matter of fact) but at the same time, I still play just for fun.
EDIT: I may be a casual in Destiny, but NOT in some games I play. That is why I consider myself a "casual hardcore" player. There ARE some franchises that I care about, but Destiny isnt really one of them. Hence me being casual with this game but hardcore in others.
EDIT: I saw a comment that I thought I would share part of it with my original comment. This is from the user DazTrip and I agree with this statement:
I am a gamer. We are all gamers.
#Destiny

12 AntwortenBearbeitet von SnakeDoc518: 1/11/2015 9:07:41 PMi can completely appreciate your point...however, i'm not terribly fond of casual gamers, and i'll explain why. first off, let me start by explaining what i mean by "casual gamer"....i'm talking people who primarily play tablet and smartphone games, and sometimes play tablet or smartphone games on their PC....or who play games on consoles, but only play AT games. meaning they don't play all the way through a title, or they start, and give up on it because it's too hard, or too complicated, or too involved, or requires them to put more thought, time, or effort into it than they feel like.....pretty much they're lazy people who dabble in video games, so they can claim to be a gamer, because it makes them look cool...gaming isn't their primary hobby..... people like this DO ruin games...because they want every game to be super easy for them, like their tablet and smartphone games, so they do their best to get regular games dumbed down to their level, so they don't hafta think too hard, have too much skill, or put too much time into it....so they get a easy to play game, that doesn't require skill....meanwhile, those of us who's primary hobby IS gaming....well, we get a shitfest, completely devoid of challenge... now, i don't think this has happened to destiny, but i can tell they're certainly trying their best....

Yeah the casual insult, especially in this game with RNG loot and easy as hell endgame content, seems to be overdone.

Bearbeitet von Draoguh: 1/11/2015 10:46:56 PMPlay the game the way you want to play it. Why do some people always feel the need to whip their cöck out and expand their chest? Makes me laugh and shake my head... This comment isn't directed at the OP...lol

Tl:dr but yea who cares... Casual is not a good insult, it actually makes you sound like an idiot...

OP says that he isn't insulted when he is called a casual. Followed by massive salt about being called a casual is insulting. The irony is seems lost on this one.

3 AntwortenYeah. Right on OP. While we are at it. Let's take away the negative connotation of the word -blam!-. -blam!- never meant gay when I was growing up. It meant -blam!-. Like, if I saw two guys blowing each other, I don’t know why I’m watching them do it. But if I just happen… you know, I stumbled upon a couple of fellas blowing one another on their respective penesia. That’s plural for penis that Louis C.K. invented today. Penesia. I would be respectful to them. I would, you know: “Hello, gentlemen.” Whatever, you know. But if one of them took the dick out of his mouth and started acting all faggy and saying annoying faggy things, “You know, people from Phoenix are Phonecians” or something like that. I’d be like, “Hey, shut up, -blam!-. -blam!-! Quit being a -blam!- and suck that dick! That’s what I would say to him. TL:DR thanks for the laughs Louis C.K.

3 AntwortenLol what a pathetic post. Casual is offensive if you take t as such. Me? I'm a casual, and I'm ok with that. No I don't think better players live in a basement as mouth breathing idiots. They just have more time to devote to the game than I do. Do some of them have kids even yeah, but who cares. You're a casual dude get over it and cry less

1 AntwortenCalm down scrub, just go back to your casual box and watch some tv or skype your mommy to go cry to.

1 AntwortenI'm a casual and I don't understand how it's an insult. All you're proving to me is that you spend more time sitting in front of a TV than me

I'm a casual gamer. Free time dictates how much I play. And hell, is not even golf season yet. Come spring ill.b on the links vs ps4 any day. Age, responsibly, job type/importance, family etc all dictate whether or not you can put in the hours. And practice does.make perfect.

14 AntwortenCasual (as defined by me) is some one who views games as a whimsical hobby. Casuals seek out games that are quick and easy to access offering entertainment with little challenge. Casuals generally make statements such as
dont take a virtual, non-real world problem as seriously as you do
or
something that doesnt matter in real life
Hardcore gamers (as defined by me) are generally much more passionate about games and do care about the future and direction of games. They prefer games that are deep and challenging and for better or worse it does deeply affect their real life. I don't know what you care about or what your passionate about but imagine someone who doesn't really care about that thing trying to change and tell you what's best for that thing you care deeply for when they don't really give a shit about it. I doubt you would respond positively to them.

Bearbeitet von Marathon: 1/11/2015 10:09:25 PMFilthy Casuals... Noobs/Nooby is more of an insult. My definition: Hardcore: Players who are dedicated to a particular game or genre. Ex: On the forums, reading about it, forming a competitive clan, talking and thinking about it all the time, fanboyism, etc. Casual: Players who occasionally play a certain game or genre. Ex: Someone who only plays Madden and COD when they have nothing else to do.

In all honesty, im a casual gamer. I have a wife and a two year old daughter so im a pretty busy person. Being labeled a casual gamer isn't an insult. Taking a break from games also allow you to appreciate the game more.

I'm with OP on this one

There's nothing hardcore about this game. MAYBE crucible, but that really says a lot about Destiny..

Amen! Preach it bro!

To me, "casual" has nothing to do with how much time you put in or even your skill, it's about how you approach your own experience. I just can't grasp how someone can think it's ok to watch the respawn screen more than actually playing the game so that to me is a sign of someone being a casual. Cause' here's the thing, few are as bad as their stats or performances suggest. These people could have easily changed their approach and improved. But they don't because they're either too stupid or too casual. Hence, a casual is someone who's ok with second place and I find it very hard to believe that someone who's successful in life can just flip a switch when they boot up a game, so I label them as people and not just as players.
