I just got done looking through a few threads and have to say that this is just annoying.
Whenever someone brings up the topic of wanting a weapon buffed or sometimes nerfed, there are always arguments that ensue and would inevitably end with calling the person who doesnt care a "casual".
Now being called "casual" doesnt bother me. What bothers me is that people try to use that word as if it were an insult. How is it an insult? Its just the way someone plays the game. Just because they dont take a virtual, non-real world problem as seriously as you do, doesnt mean they are "ruining the game". It means that they dont care and know how to adapt to the situation.
In my experience of being on forums and gaming for many many years, I have to say that the only difference between casuals and "hardcore" players is not the amount of time you each have invested into the game, its that the hardcore players bitch more about shit in a VIDEO GAME.
This seriously needs to stop. Both casuals and hardcore players play the same game and why does it matter if one doesnt take an issue as seriously as another about something that doesnt matter in real life?
Just enjoy the damn game.
EDIT: I am really impressed by how many people understand this. Just to put this out there, I am a casual hardcore gamer. I have been gaming for 20 years and I DO care a lot about some franchises and play a lot (every day as a matter of fact) but at the same time, I still play just for fun.
EDIT: I may be a casual in Destiny, but NOT in some games I play. That is why I consider myself a "casual hardcore" player. There ARE some franchises that I care about, but Destiny isnt really one of them. Hence me being casual with this game but hardcore in others.
EDIT: I saw a comment that I thought I would share part of it with my original comment. This is from the user DazTrip and I agree with this statement:

I've casually stopped being a hardcore gamer.

Yes Sir. Completely agree.

9 Antwortenbut they are the reason this game kinda sucks...

Agreed. If you get to the point where how other people play a video game really affects you and can alter your mood, get some counseling and a life. Seriously, put the controller down and do something. ITS A GAME!!!

And I thought to myself that I play everyday sometimes all day long and if that makes me a casual I would hate to hear what a hardcore is. Good grief some people are just sad and have no life

3 AntwortenCasual has never been an insult. The insult is in the receiver. Anyway... Now let me know for some casual sex with my Russian neighbour. ;)

Bearbeitet von darkwyve: 1/12/2015 4:23:08 PMIt is unlikely your plea will get through to those that actually consider themselves 'hardcore'. They are generally a pretty narrow minded lot, consumed by their passion and dedication to the game, therefore they have some delusional concept that it makes them better, or more important... you know, kinda like religious zealots (hint: its basically their religion) Don't get me wrong, there are a handful that are amazing, helpful, and willing to help anyone out there, but they tend to be the exception, not the rule.

Any one that "hardcores" on Destiny is using the wrong platform and game. It's sad really.

A Casual aka someone with a life outside of video games. People should be proud and relived to be a casual.

Shut up your just a dirty filthy casual!

There is some unexplainable need for way too many people to classify others, in my opinion. If I had to guess as to why, I would imagine it is so that people can justify themselves as being something more than others, and falsely believes that it adds more weight to his/her opinion. In the end, the only thing that matters is if someone is a gamer or not, period. To that end, if there was any label that ever made sense to me, it was the "core gamer" concept that Nintendo put out there. It is essentially the group of gamers that exist somewhere between the trash monikers of "casual" and "hardcore" - but Nintendo looked at the term from a target consumer point of view, and not some arbitrary skill/commitment point of view. In the end, it defines a majority of gamers, in that there is a level of expendable income and a desire to continue playing games.

Bearbeitet von Kato Saber: 1/12/2015 1:11:06 PMIt has never been an insult, as you spelt it wrong. Git gud casul.

The hardcore players cant take it that some what they call casuals have better gear then the hardcore players. So they complain and complain.
-
4 AntwortenI don't see anyone of the forums as "casual." "casual" gamers don't care enough to discuss a game with Internet strangers.
-
Casuals ruin games. Filthy casuals scream nerf. You're not a casual... you're just a vagina. Here's some pads for later {}{}{}{} <~ look they have wings...

2 AntwortenYou my friend are in no way shape or form a casual, you are a filthy casual. Straight up, plebeian.

3 AntwortenI see myself in the middle. I consider myself a "try hard" and I'm not ashamed. I'm an older gamer and my reflexes are not as quick as the youngsters but I do pretty well. I put my time in, I work hard, I get my awards and above all I enjoy the game. I admit I can't stand the constant whining and cry baby shit that goes on these forums. So much jealousy and envy over a video game it is unreal. I find myself engaging in debates with these troll posts at times because they piss me off, maybe cause I'm older and tired of the shit. But try hards and casuals a like, we are on here because we actually like this game and find it fun. There's gonna be glitches, there's gonna be corporate disappointment, all game companies do that. But if you gotta complain so much about Bungie, I gotta say again and to make it very clear for you, I won't use acronyms, Shut The Fvck Up and Get The Fvck Out of here.

If you go to work and call your workmates on casual terms "casuals" they will more than likely think you are a retard. Same applies to video games except it ain't a job.
-
Guy that calls someone else "casual"= Guy whose puny player ego needs validation.
-
You just gotta own it
-
5 AntwortenI love how your argument about prejudice against casuals includes a prejudice against hard core players. I'm sure people will see your side of things.
-
It is not an insult? Based on the source of delivery, I have always taken it as a compliment
-
4 AntwortenI always thought a "casual" was just someone that can't spend 10+ hours a day playing a video game
-
hardcore players bitch more about shit in a VIDEO GAME
Are you going to copyright that definition? Because, if not, I am going to make it my go-to definition for "hardcore gamer". I am proud to call myself a "casual" Destiny player, in that, if I don't get that last piece of gear to make me the next level, IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER! (Technically, I don't even have the FIRST piece of gear. And it JUST DOESN'T MATTER!) But I still play the game from 5 to 15 hours each week, love playing it, am pretty good at it, and care about it. But I don't think the RNG is worth getting angry at the developers over, I don't blame Bungie for me not having all the weapons I want yet, and I just don't get worked up over the game unless I'm actually playing the game!
