My girlfried is going to leave me because of Destiny - AMA
There is actually a lot more to it than the usual "you play too much" story. She is against Destiny because it goes against her religions beliefs. It's more video games in general than it is Destiny. Facebook stuff like Farmville is okay, but Destiny is "one of those violent games".
I am a moderate agnostic, so I really don't care about others religious views. Also when I am around religious families I have no qualms about participating in prayers, songs, or whatever because these are typically fun and/or good natured, and there is no reason for me to make a scene. (I really dislike those people that don't believe in religions and take every opportunity to "inform" those people that do)
Anyway, for some reason I have been unable to comprehend, my girlfriend has decided to take a stance against Destiny. Her family has even called me and asked me to throw the game away.
I took a few days to carefully think about how I wanted to respond, and I have decided not to stop playing Destiny (despite its crappy RNG loot system, lol). The main reason why is that I just can't, in the long term, have a relationship with someone that would make an ultimatum against a socially acceptable hobby.
I thought that this may be interesting to people, so I decided to make a legit AMA post. If no one replies, that's okay.

If it comes to the point that family-members start calling you because you need to throw it away, it's time to gtfo of that relationship if she/they don't chance their mind. That is pretty disturbing, tbh. Imo, this is what can be wrong with religion.

It's just a game, but with that being said, these kind of things will continue throughout your relationship. Marriage wont make it better, it would get worse. If your hobby is an important part of your life, then find someone whom accepts it. Love is supposed to be unconditional. There are plenty of people that would accept your hobby. Chances are if your current girl doesn't like your hobby, she never will, especially if it's a religious belief.
