I'm sure this will get me some serious flaming, but I think it's worth posting anyway.
Starting January 1st, I'm pledging to BOOTany player from Raids I'm leading who uses the N-word. If I'm not leading the group I will simply dismiss myself after stating that I make it a habit not to play with racists.
If you would also like to take a stand against casual racism, I'd encourage YOU to do the same.
I'm doing this because I'd guess about 25% of the raid groups I put together via the forum (or join via the forum) feature somebody who seems to be using the anonymity of internet gaming as a excuse to get their otherwise-probably-contained racism out of their system. Up until now I've just ignored it and focused on doing my part in the fireteam. And while I don't think I'm going to change anyone's behavior, I just can't abide the tacit approval that my silence communicates to these people.
Pre-emptive response #1: Yes, I would absolutely exercise a double-standard and not kick a black person who uses the term. It doesn't make me a hypocrite if I'm consistent in responding to the intent of the usage and not simply it's usage.
Pre-emptive response #2: Not everyone who uses the n-word is racist? Fine, then we'll say I'm responding to the behavior an not it's inferred statement about the value of the person. But seriously, if you're not black and you use this term you're either trying and failing to sound "street" or you're racist.
If disagee with what I'm doing, PLEASE block me and/or never play with me. I can virtually guarentee you will be doing me (and yourself) a favor.

As a black kid who hates hearing the N-word, I approve this message.

1 AntwortenEven if your black it's no excuse. The over use of the word by black people in music and films etc is what makes people think it's an acceptable word. You can't expect people not to say 'ma -blam!-' for example, if it seems to be accepted by the folk who it's meant to offend in the first place. Cut it out completely or there is no point.
-
Alright man. You do you, and I'll be sure to not give a shit. And I don't mean to be condescending in any way, but terms like these are a double edged sword. Just like you should expect us not to say the term in online play, we should equally expect you to not use that term, or any other term that can be seen by anyone else to be racist in any way, in any social situation. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
but I can, because I bought it myself.
If you add an ER at the end of the word then I see it as a different issue entirely, I leave the "-blam!-" term used freely by anyone who wants to use it, considering many black people I know use it as well. Why is a white person calling a black person a -blam!- any worse than a black person calling another a -blam!-? Because our great great great great great grandfathers could have owned slaves? Who cares, it's over now. Move the -blam!- on.

This is a forum about video games. Perhaps this is not the place. Rather than make a post about what you are going to do, just...do it.

Whoa whoa whoa. Wait. Stop. " -blam!- is a noun in the English language. The word originated as a neutral term referring to black people,[1] as a variation of the Spanish/Portuguese noun negro, a descendant of the Latin adjective niger ("color black").[2] Often used disparagingly, by the mid 20th century, particularly in the United States, it suggested that its target is extremely unsophisticated. Its usage has become unambiguously pejorative, a common ethnic slur usually directed at black people of Subsaharan African descent. " This is per Wiki. So. It's okay for black people to use a racist term with other black people, you're fine with that, but when someone else does it it's wrong? Get out of here. I'm sorry but being black does not make it okay. You're just ignorant, moronic to boot. That's like saying it's okay for Jews to joke about concentration camps because they're Jewish. You need your head checked brah.

The reverse racism is strong with this one... Any person (of any race) that uses this or any other racial slur is ignorant.

Uh what? How is I fair to say the N-word if you're black? I'm white and can't say cracker, who are you to be so biased?

3 AntwortenThere is a nice lady from Africa that I have been working with for about a year now. She cannot stand the american black people and doesnt like being considered "black" instead she will flat out tell you she is not black she is african she asked me why do they talk with so much slang and why do they not pride themselves with their clothes (mainly how they wear the pants at the ankles lol) she said to me other day that the majority of the american blacks she had seen were a disgrace and she used the word you do not want to hear in your raid which blew me away seeing she is very kind so in my opinion if I was black I might be taking a look at myself in the mirror and pull my pants up lol.
