Dark souls is seriously a great game, it just has a very steep learning curve. Learn what equipment is best to suit your playstyle and upgrade your equipment as much as possible before venturing too far into the higher levels. Equipment does way more than your level. Also, especially if you get invaded, learn to strafe around them constantly holding your shield up and backstab them as soon as you get the chance. backstabs are extremely vital in dark souls.
