Bungie could learn a thing or two from Rockstar. They'd make more money with satisfied customers.

So as we all know GTAV made a billion dollars in 3 days and to date is the highest selling video game of all time. But why? Well the answer may lie in the approach taken to the game and how that relates to the reputation of a franchise. It's GTA. A phrase that might run through your head if you were to consider purchasing a title, the strength of that reputation is such that it is simply a given that this will be a great game to play. Rockstar have invested in the community in order to grow the base for each game while retaining the audience they already have, because they realise something that bungie and activision have forgotten and that is, that you will make more money in the long run by keeping customers happy. They will buy your DLC they will buy t-shirts they will pre order the next instalment and tell their friends to do the same. Activision and Bungie with this title have taken the opposite approach. They have deliberately and methodically stripped the fun out of the game believing that they can 'tease' the potential of the title and make even more money by selling DLC this practice has failed to impress the community. Many have returned their game already others have been completely put off even buying the title in the first place and both of those groups are highly unlikely to purchase Destiny 2. There is also the matter of the 10 year life span which is obviously a huge window for selling DLC to the customers the question is how much more DLC would they sell with a satisfied customer base? How many copies would they sell if customers were saying to their friends "This game is everything it promises to be" rather than "Wait till it's half price". Bungie have taken a short term profit approach to a title they wished to make money off in the long term in this case over 10 years. They have decided that it doesn't matter if the customer is satisfied or not because he's already paid and will continue to pay. They have decided not to respect gaming to the point where they've actually refused to release the game for review because they know they would have been lambasted as they rightly have been since and IMO it has cost them big time. Yes this game made money but it's virtual chump change compared to the amount of money they COULD have made by simply releasing something worth paying for in the first place. These companies are there own worst enemies. EDIT: This is not about quality this is about the success of rockstars strategy opposed to Bungie, do you really think Destiny will make a billion dollars in 3 days, at any point in the franchise? If the franchise even survives this first instalment? The answer is a no, the reason it's a no is because they've burned everyone with the first release and are willing to let those customers walk away having already taken their money once. Where as rockstar have tried to hold onto them and have been successful in doing so meaning they have that same persons money for over the course of 3 games. The end result is? A billion dollars in three days. 2nd Edit: Well 1 am so i'd better get to bed thank you all for your comments and opinions this has been an enlightening and educational experience for us all i'm sure and I've thoroughly enjoyed conversing with you and you know what?
