I'm embarrassed as a person and gamer.
I've been gaming since I was 5 years old. I'm 32 years old. I've played every system you could think of and some you probably couldn't think of. For the past 27 years I've seen so many different changes. Some great, some not so much.
The one change that kills me the most is the community. I agree that there are mistakes and problems with Destiny. But the way I've seen some of you guys (or girls) post or talk about Bungie/Activision is just outrageous.
But it's not just in forums. The way some of you act and speak online is seriously disturbing. If you want to call me old and troll and make fun of me go ahead. I know it's going to happen. I don't care.
But if my parents knew that I talked and acted the way some of you do they would beat the piss out of me on principle alone. And the thing is I would let them.
Rome wasn't built in a day. If you couldn't tell in Beta that this game wasn't going to be perfect then you aren't much of a gamer anyway.
Quit the cussing. Grow up. And actually think of some constructive criticism.
Edit 1: I'm not saying that you don't have a reason to be upset. And I'm not saying you shouldn't voice your opinion on here. Feel free to say what you want. Say whatever you want about me. It doesn't bother me. I'm not going to get mad or hate anyone for what you have to say. I'm just appalled at the way the gaming community has changed. Some of you say i need to get with the times and get used. Well DLC is the times now. So get used to it.
Oh yeah and I know Destiny isn't Rome. It was a freaking metaphor.

But the greater gaming community is no different than any community. Sure, back in the 80/90s gaming was a lot more niche' and the communities were much smaller and a lot cooler to be apart of, those were kinda our pre-mainstream days. Just like before a big band breaks, everyone says they were "better" before they "sold out". Then we experienced this massive growth where gaming went from being this nerdy hobby to essentially another media format on par with music/television/movies. So now the community is incredibly large and we've got players from every edge of existence in our ranks. Essentially Godwin's Law is now in effect aka "Anonymous Decay". There is no community of this type that is not decaying over time. So while I agree that things are lamer now, what else could happen? That's like saying, well I'm ashamed to be a Roman in AD 37 because Rome was wayyyy better previously. Or I'm ashamed to be an American in 2014 because the 70s were our golden age. Everything is constantly decaying or worsening over time until it eventually dies off. It's just the way we evolve and develop as organisms, its nothing unique to gaming and there is absolutely nothing anyone can do to stop simple Darwinian Evolution at work. Welcome to reality, yes it fcking sucks.

I agree with you, I have only been doing this since 2006 after my back surgery. Like you I'm ashamed at how the gaming community has changed from people who was helpful and respectful to a bunch of cussing crybabies who complain about everything because they can hide behind a keyboard and a false name. That being said I have met some good people on destiny and played some great games. I have also played against some that are for lack of a better term total asses about things, you can tell those who play a certain other type of FPS and are only worried about their K/D ratio. Thankfully they don't play long. Well anyway thankfully gaming companies have started voice chat in such a way that you can only hear those you want to talk to. Hope to meet you on the field of battle in the game, have fun I know I'm going to. Later

Who the hell are you " embarrassed" for? Destiny team? For chasing their player base away with nerf after nerf and not fixing the things that need to be addressed? Yea , that's pretty embarrassing for them. I know one thing, I won't be buying another destiny title if they don't change their course real quick and I'm fairly certain there's a lot of people out there that feel the exact same way. This whole taking roles away in the VOG is really gonna piss people off.

There internet was barely a whisper then. Each title seemed a godsend from the drudgery of chores and school. Myth: The Fallen Lords Baldur's Gate Total Annihilation Diablo Each and every title was treated with respect as a gift from hard-working developers who were pushing a new industry. Now? Gamers are entitled. We like to pick apart every facet and pull it to the light of day if there exists even the tiniest of flaws. We never stop to think "Who else can build us this experience?". We just push and pull like children crying for more. Honestly? The pettiness of it disgusts me. But that's modern life. The dark heart of the internet age.

Get the post. Feel the same way on most aspects. Most of that garbage is spewed out by only a handful of the millions of people who game. Don't think the community as a whole should be reputed by the small percentage of douche bags.

I get it. I am what anyone would call a 'gamer' by any stretch. Played Doom & quake 1-3, half-life... A few others way back when. Never had a console until Skyrim, never played an MMO or PvP. So put me down as some freak I guess. I actually don't want to 'ruin' anyone's experience, and respect the abilities of the people who are actually very talented players, so I rarely do strikes because - well - folks [b]expect[/b] better. Growing up as people like to say, has little to do with anything, it simply comes down to one thing IMHO - respect. And the lack of it in many cases. And for what it's worth- I enjoy the game - even though the story is now in limbo.

If people never complained, then Bungie and Activision would assume they did everything perfectly. The forums are here to voice out any problems (tho not everyone does that instead they troll). I have been gaming for over 25 years myself and honestly I do no agree in any defense for Bungie., especially when $500 million and 7 years of this game has been developed. There are indie games even AAA titles that costed only a fraction of the budget Bungie got, all for a beta -ish game. After gaming so so many years, this to me is unacceptable.

I agree with you that there is way to much complaining in the forums. I believe most people who are complainging are not real gamer's. Because all the gamer's i talk to see the big picture. This generation of instant gratification. The setup for game on the console is new to begin with so most gamer's know not expect it to complete on day one. This game is a investment, like Wow you will be giving expansion pack after expansion to expand story and pvp thats how this game can last ten years.. Most gamers are only used to map packs which mostly only effects pvp. Not destiny. Destiny will effect story as well pvp. Bungie is trying something new give them applause and give them a fair critic. Do not get me wrong somethings need to be fix but thats with every game. But the amount of crying on the forums is outrageous.

I wish I was on xb1 so I could join. This is my first time I on a forum and am also pretty enamored by the types of posting that goes on. I admit that I have been negative myself at times, but I still realize this is just a game.

Thank you. Criticism is necessary and actually appreciated by most people. The problem with this community is they've never been taught the difference between constructive criticism and blatant insulting. If you want to state your frustration, please make points and give reasons. Have a DISCUSSION about it. Seeing constant posts simply stating that everything sucks is helpful for absolutely no one. Thank you for making this forum, more people need to take a step back and look at the poison that they're spitting.

Well, I respect your post. After some reading though, it's hard for me to not be severely disappointed with this game. I enjoy the action and the strike missions, but it's a big shell of something that was bigger and better. The repetition is too much.

Being able to hide behind a computer makes them feel empowered so be as nasty as they want. I'm sure 99.98% of these Negative Nancies would never dare talk to a live person like that.

It's gamers like you who defend the lies that make companies think it's ok to keep doing it. Just look at Iron Banner for instance. "Levels matter" was complete BS as shown by the multitudes of videos where level 2's with starting equipment dominate. Again an outright lie by Bungie. This sort of bull video game companies seem to keep shoving down our throats needs to stop and by saying "Oh well you should have know it wasn't going to be perfect" is exactly the kind of reaction which seems like a green light for more lies. STOP SAYING IT"S OK FOR COMPANIES TO LIE TO US!! It isn't and it never will be ok.

This virtual wall that allows people to say whatever they want with no repercussions is the main culprit. This happens on every single forum. There will be legitimate criticism but you'll rarely see behind the trolling, sarcasm, bickering, and excessive whining (either about their issues with the game or the people complaining). It's a different time. People want it perfect and they want it now and GOD HELP YOU IF YOU DON'T GIVE THE PEOPLE THAT. If a company like Bungie listened to these people, the sky would be falling every day. It's kind of saddening, but then you just X out the window and life goes back to normal. Lol.
